  1. I was really impressed with the sportmanship shown by the Elizabethton team after the A/AA race. They came over to the Franklin Road Academy tent and extended handshakes to the outgoing state champions. The young Elizabethton men showed class. It was nice to see in this age of in-your-face antics by athletics. Congratulations and enjoy your accomplishment !!
  2. Conditions look great for Saturday !! Clear and Sunny with temps in the 50-60 degree range depending on the time of your race. Also, the rain yesterday was minimal and no further rain is expected. So track should be pretty firm. Runners, time to set new PR's. No excuses, No Regrets.
  3. Holliman just looks 140 or 145. Bet he goes 130 or 135.
  4. Bring your mittens and hot chocolate !! Temperatures are forecasted to drop to 35 Friday night and get to a high of 60 on Saturday. Early races will likely have temps in the mid to upper 40's . Suppose to be clear and Sunny !! Should see some fast times.
  5. The boy's A/AA team championship should be extremely competitive. The teams that have had strong seasons and should be in the thick of it at the State Meet are: East: Elizabethton and Sullivan Central. Both have strong teams. Elizabethton won the Wautauga conference championship 30 to 37. Southeast: Chatt. Christian and Chatt. Arts and Science should both send competitive teams. CC took second behind Baylor at a recent meet and edged out CAS at the Optimist. Midstate: David Lipscomb and Franklin Road seem to have the strongest teams. Lipscomb beat FRA last week at the Metro Championships while FRA beat Lipscomb at the earlier District championships. West: I don't know the A/AA teams from this area well enough. Someone else can make their predictions. With regions having their championships this Thursday and Friday, we should have a better picture of the top competitors this weekend. Hope everyone stays healthy and competes to their abilities.
  6. Sullivan Central better make the most of 2004 since its days as a AA team are coming to a close. With nearly 1,100 students, they will move up to AAA next year. My question: Should Sullivan Central "DO THE RIGHT THING" and compete at the AAA level this season? It would be a shame to have an asterisk follow their success in 2004.
  7. Division I Wrestling doesn't differentiate by school size. However a couple of small schools deserve recognition for their efforts at State. Of the top 25 Division I teams, only 2 teams had student populations less than 600. All the rest had more than 800 students with the largest schools having over 2000 students. Franklin Road Academy with 320 students finished 13th Fairview High School with 594 students finished 21st. I'm not trying to diminish the large schools' outstanding performances. Just thought these schools and their coaches deserve some kudos.
  8. Seaman is out. He lost to Kerian 8-7 in the round of 16 and then Kerian lost in quarterfinals to Walker(Greeneville). No carry for Seaman. Saw match and Seaman/Kerian seemed to match up pretty even. Both power wrestlers who exchanged takedowns/escapes. I'm sure fans of Seaman and Kerian will see it differently, but I think Kerian wrestled at his top end while Seaman didn't. End result, Kerian Won. Both are good wrestlers, Kerian just had a better time of it. Unfortunately for Kerian he didn't stay in the zone and got TF'd by Walker in the next round.
  9. Finals for Division 1 and II start at 4pm EST.
  10. I agree. Current matchup system indiscriminately short changes some of the boys. It would be better to spend the extra time and money to have a full double elimination tournament. The boys would then have at least two matches at the state meet. Under current system, you could drive from Memphis for a single Thursday night match. Kind of a letdown after a full season of double elimination tournies. Wonder how much more time would be needed to conduct a double elimination?
  11. Don't know about upsets for 1st and 2nd, but here are several wrestlers who I think will finish better than their seeding and make it to the semifinals. Tayar(Overton) @ 103 Coleman(Clevland)@ 112 Cox(Kenwood)@ 119 Eden(Overton)@ 125 Jennings(Overton) @ 130 Valentine(Lipscomb) @ 171 Hayes(Overton) @ 215
  12. Thanks Coach, that's exactly what I was looking for.
  13. How are team scores determined at the individual regionals? I am going to region 6 tournament tomorrow and would like to know. Thanks.
  14. Thanks for the post and the link to the brackets. Seedings look pretty fair. Should be some good matches in the semi's and finals. Are any wrestlers missing from brackets? I realized 103 usually has some vacancies (9 wrestlers) but I was surpised to see only 11 wrestlers in 135, 140 and HWT. Did any teams miss seeding meeting?
  15. Like to hear anyone thoughts on lineup strategies for Div I Duals? The ability to move around wrestlers gives state duals a dimension missing from the state individuals. McCallie's been a master at lineup strategy in Div II. Which Div I teams do you think are best at lineup strategy?
  16. Great match. 17. In the past, an overall dream team (independent of school size) was selected. In addition large school and small school dream teams were named. The selection is honorary only. I understand that the Coaches have selected the teams for this season. I was interested in seeing the various selections. Any help would be appreciated.
  18. I know the Mid-State Coaches Association selects a dream team. Are there other TN coaching association dream teams? When is the dream team selected and where are the selected wrestlers listed?
  19. Watched a match last night in which two wrestlers were starting in neutral position with .1 (one tenth) of a second left on the clock. Both wrestlers had previously been warned for stalling. Whistle blows, one wrestler dives for takedown, other wrestler steps back to avoid takedown. Whistle ends match, stalling point charged against wrestler stepping backward. How is this possible? Is stepping back to avoid takedown stalling? Can stalling occur within one-tenth of a second? Proper Call or bad call? Where can you find rules for stalling calls?
  20. Here's what I have so far. Please add or correct as needed. Region 5 Franklin, Centennial Smyrna, Warren Co. Region 6 Overton, Franklin Road Academy Region 7 Mt. Juliet, Sycamor Kenwood, Clarksville
  21. Anyone predict any upset at the District or Regional Duals?
  22. When and where are various district duals scheduled?

  24. Saw that Overton is only entering 8 wrestlers in the varsity division of the GP West tourney this weekend. Do they have injuries ? Thought Josh Jennings would be at tourney for sure.
  25. Great article on the Kenwood/Clarksville match in today's Leaf Chronicle. http://www.theleafchronicle.com/news/stori...rts/235884.html
