  1. It sounds like McGavok High School has a problem to me. Why are student athletes transferring out so frequently? Last year it was the big Sims kid who left and played for Mt. Juliet and this year Corey and another player went to Wilson Central. And the Shipley kid went to Gallatin. Is something driving them away from the program?
  2. Saw them play in the tournament the weekend before last in Gallatin. The Gallatin sophomore school team blew them out the first game and in the championship game Gallatin beat them again without one of their starting post players (Tut). BAM had two MEN coaching their team and Gallatin just had one of the high school Varsity players coaching their team. It was the Tyler Troupe show. He was dunking all over them. They tried to match up their guards against him, but they were too small. And when they put that Perkins kid on him - he came down the lane and did a two handed thunder dunk on him. He had four or five dunks in the championship game. BAM had no answer for him. He was stealing it from their guards and going down and flushing it and they couldn't keep him off the boards. For a 6'5" sophmore guard he has great handles and hops. He will make some noise next year. He would have this year but he broke his leg early in the season.
  3. Coach West of Hendersonville was voted Coach of the Year Andy Wicke of Hendersonville was voted Player of the Year ALL DISTRICT 9AAA BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM BIDDLE,MATT - WILSON CENTRAL BOSTIC, BEN - HENDERSONVILLE DARDEN, CHRIS - LAVERNE HELTON, JOSH - MT. JULIET KOEGER, ANTUAN - LAVERNE LOCHART, ZACK - HENDERSONVILLE MILLER, JAKE - BEECH MESSINGER, FRANKIE - GALLATIN THON, DAK - GALLATIN SIMS, SHAWN - MT. JULIET SWADER, KENYOTTA - SMYRNA WARNER, BRETT - SMYRNA Congratulations to the players and the Coach. District Nine was a war zone this year. You never knew who was going to beat who (with the exception of Hendersonville). This district is the only one with two teams represented in the AAA State Tournament. Giving District Nine some of the respect it deserves. Job well done. It was fun watching the District games this year. By the way, the girls sent two teams to the state also. Mt. Juliet and Beech. The Beech girls left quite an impression on everyone there. They showed that athleticism is not the only factor in Basketball. They showed how far you can go when you play with your heart and have no fear. [Edited by TitanTim on 3-19-03 1:14P] [Edited by TitanTim on 3-19-03 1:38P] [Edited by TitanTim on 3-19-03 8:00P]
  4. Didn't Gallatin beat Portland and Blackman in their head to heads this year?
  5. I have not seen Columbia play, but suspect that they will be unable to stop the barrage of three balls that Hendersonville brings. It is not just the Wicke kid. They had a back-up post player hit three crucial treys against Whites Creek. The Hendersonville players work hard to get their teammate a clean shot, whereas most teams have players working hard to get their own clean look. I would be surprised if Columbia has the perimeter play to shut them down. But then I have not seen Columbia play. I know that Wadale is supposed to be something special, but it will take a team effort to beat the Commandos. And most teams do not have the discipline defensively and break down after the second or third pass. Hendersonville players are very unselfish. Penetrate hard and pitch it out to the perimeter. If you do not rotate and jump the passsing lane....you will find out how potent a weapon the three ball really is.
  6. It always amazes me how people try to figure out formulas as to who is the stronger team. Unfortunately, you cannot factor into sports the human factor. A good example is the above rankings saying Hendersonville is stronger than Gallatin. In reality, according to the results of their games this year. Gallatin would have to be a better team if you go head to head competition. Usually the best way to establish superiority. In a superbowl championship they usually do not award the trophy to some fictitious formula based on how they did during the year. They simply play each other and the winner is determined. I.e the region 5 game this year. I am not sure if any of the other teams have played head to head and were flip flopped in the rankings but the Sumner County teams are in reverse order.
  7. already out. Go to the Tssaa website
  8. Both will have their work cut out, but anything can happen. Go Sumner County.
  9. Congrats to District 9 Champion (Hendersonville) and Region 5 Champion (Gallatin). I believe this might be the first trip for Coach West (Hendersonville). Coach Luna (Gallatin)has been 3 out the last 4 years. Both programs are well run and should be proud of your post season accomplishments. Good luck to both in the 'Boro.
  10. One thing great about message boards is that everyone is entitled to opinions. Sometimes it is fun to slow down fan frenzied speculation though. Hendersonville is a very well coached team. Anything can happen in post season....we all know that.
  11. I wouldn't get the big head so quick. Hendersonville is not in the same league with White Station or Bradley Central. Not even close.
  12. The other starter that graduated was Jay Slice(athletic, physical, great defender and penetrator)
  13. It appears, from what I can find out, that the gym upstairs should be open for all teams participating in the tournament since it is in the same building. I guess we will see tonight when the 9AAA districts are held if the "home team" avails it to anyone else.
  14. Does anyone know if this is a TSSAA rule infraction? The host team has the 6:00 game on Thursday and I am sure they will be utilizing their "private warm up gym" during the 4:30 girls game.
  15. I have a question about the rules of district and regional tournaments. Can the host team use the gym upstairs during the preceeding game to warm up in and not offer equal time or half of it to the opposing team? Or is that just a complete violation of the procedures of a tournament. I thought that the rules were that each team got equal warm up time with equal number of basketballs to warm up with. Some tournaments even state the amount of warm up time and the number of balls allowed. During the regular season games, this team would use their gym upstairs to warm up in during the girls game and periodically come and hang over the rail with their basketballs to let the other team know they were warming up upstairs. Are there tighter rules in place in tournaments, or do the spoils go to the rich who host the tournament?
