  1. I would say that the entire CPA team is a class act! I've felt that way all year as we (Goodpasture) fought some good battles with them on the court. The fans were appropriately supportive of their guys and didn't ever act in any way, that I saw, that was tasteless or derogatory toward us. The guys were all great sports at the end of the games, and they were right in there with the applause as we won the district championship. We were for them to go all the way in the state tournament. Seems like the coach, the school, the players, and the fans on this board all have basketball in the right perspective. Good luck to Andrew as he goes on to college, and to the CPA team next year, because I know you will be awesome again.
  2. Could some of you guys who do a good job keeping up with this region give me a list of All- District 9A and All-District 10A players, as well as All-Region? I know most of 9A, but just a couple of 10A, and I don't know about All-Region. If you have a second to write a list or tell me how to find one, I'd appreciate it. Also, congratulations to ALL of you players out there who have worked hard in practice all season and who have given all of us fans something to look forward to come game times, as well as the coaches who give up so much of themselves for the kids, the game, the fans. It's been a fun year!
  3. Don't know anything about Wayne County, but I am very proud of the guys at CPA and know they will represent 9A with class. Good luck guys!
  4. We did not overlook FRA. They have three scorers in the tops ones in Nashville. The guys actually wanted to play McEwen a lot more than FRA. Unfortunately, we played their style of ball, slow-paced, and we did not run like we can. Foul shots were 38-6 for the game, and yes, some of them were desparation for too late in the end. I was surprised at the CPA-NCS score, but glad for 9A to show better than we did last year.
  5. Advice to Goodpasture players and fans on this board: Don't start acting like some of the people that comment on this do and trying to stir people up. 9A was tough, regions will continue to be tough, so just play tough (and smart) and let your game prove what you are, not a bunch of provocative comments on CoachT. Put all your energies into winning this region. NCS03 and Divepix, thanks for your positive comments for Trent #21. He's worked very hard and has to overcome the size factor in this game, and we'll just hope he can prove himself worthy to move up to the next level. I look forward to another exciting night of basketball at McEwen tonight. Congratulations to all the teams that won and get to move on to the next game. This is an exciting time for you!
  6. divepix-I always appreciate your intelligent, positive, constructive comments on this board. Goodpasture always enjoys playing CPA, our guys are good friends with some of your guys, and the atmoshphere of good, clean, intense competetion is great. Thank you for three great games this season. We enjoyed Friday night. There was some speculation last week as to whether one of the dunks by Travis was "awesome". I will personally attest to the fact that the one he had one us Friday night on your comeback run was AWESOME! He is a great player and a great kid. Even though Trent is graduating, and hopefully moving on to play more years in college, I will be keeping up with all our region teams and know that you guys will be great again next year. I hope that this week 9A will step up and show ourselves better against 10A than we did last year. Good luck to all 9A teams!!!
  7. Thanks. We have some good outside shooters, but they just haven't really loosened up and proven themselves to be that this year as much as we know they can. Maybe it'll come in this ending stretch.
  8. blik-Could you (or anyone else is welcome also) be specific about Goodpasture's players? Out of curiosity, and now knowing whether you are just a bystander who has no stake in any of it or have an unterest or whatever, I'd just like to know how you see the breakdown of our team, if you don't mind. It might help us improve on some of our weaknesses, etc. as we try to move forward. CPA is a great team with just good kids who play hard, a good coach, good fans, good ethics, as far as I can see it, and we look forward to meeting them again tonight.
  9. CPA has good three point shooters who have the green light to shoot. That gives them the advantage over us. You have a solid starting five and anyone can be the leading scorer on any given night, as you have shown all year. I think you have a great team and a great bunch of guys, and wonderful fan support. I wish we could have beat you at home, but whatever happened happened. Hopefully next time, if we get our threes going. We made too many silly mistakes- sometimes you get lucky and they don't cost you, but ours were costly this time. Now, will you PLEASE take care of College Heights whenever you play them. You should beat them every time!!!
  10. Good deal, let us know when you decide. Rhodes, Freed, ACU, and Lindsey-Wilson have been the main ones who have talked to Trent, but with his stature, who knows what will happen in reality. I hope somebody will look at the heart and not the height.
  11. It was a great game, as it always is with Lipscomb. Last time it went their way and this time it went ours. Everyone got their money's worth. Brent and Trent showed me, and I hope the rest of you, what this is really all about...healthy, fun rivalries, intense competition, and good sportsmanship. I appreciate everyone who notices each individual player's efforts, not just dislikes a team for certain players who act certain ways, because they don't necessarily represent the whole team. Lipscomb has great fan support, and I agree there were more of them and they were more vocal than ours. Keep that up as you go toward the end, because that indeed helps the players step it up. I don't know...I guess we don't play an exciting enough brand of basketball to get them fired up. We'll keep trying! Anyway, fellow C of C school...best of luck to you all!!! P.S. Brent, where do you think you'll go to school next year?
  12. As always, we enjoy playing Lipscomb, and there have been many great games between us! I'd personally like to say thanks to the guys we've been playing since fifth grade. It's been a lot of fun. To Brent McPherson... Congratulations on the year you've had, and I wish you the best for a continuing great season, and for whatever you do in college. I know your hard work and efforts will pay off. Trent has enjoyed the "sparring" throughout the years, and he respects you as a player. We look forward to Saturday night, no matter what the outcome. Come by the concession stand and see me (I'm the one who runs it), and I'll hook you up with a free meal just in appreciation for all the years of enjoyment you've brought to me. I hope our guys will come ready to play against a good Lipscomb team. See you Saturday!
  13. Sportsfan101-You are so right about fcpress and his comments. He's had more than one classless post. When it come to College Heights, he does them more harm than good, yet he calls himself a fan. I do know that CPA has everything in the world they need to beat CH, and I hope to see them do it repeatedly in the future. Nothing against the CH players, but this fcpress guy just needs to be taken down a peg or two. Every post he has just seems to be dogging another team or making excuses for CH or antagonizing someone. Very little positive talk from him. There are lots of great rivalries going on this board, but he takes the fun out of it and just gets vicious. I hope you are right, that CH players, coaches, and their other fans have more class than this individual. Anybody else on here from College Heights, especially players you need to tell your fan to tone it down and not make everybody despise you guys on his account. As for your comment about 9A - it is turning out to be great year with close games and anybody can win on any given night. Makes for a few heart attacks and a LOT of fun! I have been very impressed with the sportsmanship shown in this district this year...tough games, but lots of handshakes and compliments afterward. To all the seniors -thanks for many years of watching great games...I commend your hard work, and I wish you a great rest of the season!
  14. I give up...some of you take things too personally. I never said he was a punk...read again. He did do some huffing and puffing when he scored...maybe all in the emotion of the game, and he had a fine game. He was the high scorer of the night for either team, I believe. I complimented FRA's scoring balance, and I only said he acted sort of "punkish" at times. My opinion. That's not calling him a punk, so whatever you want to make of it, so be it. We've been playing him for years and I've never seen him like that before, actually, so don't be so offended. Your number 10 point guard held his own, too, and should be commended for filling Salato's loss. About the soft spot, I'm just a mom, and that's one of our weaknesses- we have those for people. Guys are very different, I know. If Ryan comes across like a punk, I really do hate that...for him and for the school, because he's really a nice guy. Please, if anyone knows Kyle, don't tell him someone said he was a punk, because that is not true at all. He did well, and the game went to FRA. No hard feelings.
  15. My remark was not aimed at anyone personally...sorry you took it that way. As I look back on the posts, you did say "he is a punk", which I don't think is particularly admirable either, so we all have our faults. I do not excuse Ryan's actions, and there is no place for the pushing. My only soft spot for him would be to say that people do mark him because of his size, over which he has no control, and comments are sometimes made by students and adults alike that are inappropriate sometimes, and there is no place for that either. He would be better off if he could totally tune all that out - agreed. Hopefully, that will come throughout this year as he prepares for college. Meanwhile, when people talk about Goodpasture, I just hope they look at the rest of the team and their contributions, not just Ryan. I guess that that's natural, though, with all the media hype. Being the mother of one of the "lesser" players, I guess, I'd just like to see the team as a whole get credit, because they all work very hard. And yes, I feel that way about all the teams. All of those guys do their running and lifting and extra shooting on the side and hopefully work in the classroom, and I hope basketball is a great experience for all of them, not just the ones who score the most points. I do appreciate your comments, and maybe discussions like these can make all of us see things from many different perspectives. I very much enjoy reading the posts on my breaks.
  16. The Goodpasture-FRA score was tied at haltime and tied at the end of the third and went to the last minute and a half when we got down a little and had to foul. FRA hit their free throws. Goodpasture had a very bad night at the line, and that was the difference in this game, so it makes it hard to lose one like that when you sort of defeat yourself. FRA has balanced scoring, from what I've seen, and Goodpasture is more balanced than many people might realize, because everyone likes to focus on Ryan. Also, those who know the game know that there are LOTS of factors other than the final numbers that are put in the paper. What about the steals, the assists, taking charges and causing turnovers for the other team? The guys who do that consistently deserve their recognition, as well, so it would be nice if everyone who so much loves to talk about Goodpasture would not totally focus on Ryan and pay attention to the team as a whole. We're not that bad without him, and have had to play a lot of times without him because of foul trouble. He's a good kid from a fine family and I've known him since he was four years old,- he does get frustrated, and how much of that is due to the hearing loss or how much of that is due to the hype of his height, etc. I can't say. I'm sure Kyle Keene is a good kid, too, but he seemed sort of "punkish" last night, too, and one of FRA's players said "BS" (the full word, not the condensed version) as he was running down the court on what he thought was a bad call, and he's probably a nice kid overall, too. Their emotions sometimes rule their actions...they are kids. Would Ryan be so much the target if he were six inches shorter and doing everything else exactly the same? Probably not. I said earlier in the year that on any given night in 9A anybody can win a big game. We have a lot of solid players throughout the district, so it will make for a competitive road and exciting year for the fans. We might have been favored, and if we all play our top game at the same time, we are pretty good, as are many other teams. Healthy rivalries are good, and compliments to other players, teams, and coaches as they warrant it are nice, but it seems like a lot of "junk" talk in these forums is just a waste of a good thing.
  17. Goodpasture in general, on the recruiting thing. Football has been the big question mark in that area, I think.
  18. I did give credit to the kids in two posts...reread them - more than one solid player...they are to be respected...they ARE good... You are starting to get very defensive and sound a little angry. You asked a question, I gave an opinion, and I shouldn't have added the other comments about recruiting. It lead to unnecessary stuff. Your team is lucky to have you as one of their fans, and I know you are all proud of them as kids and as a team. I am sure that it's great for your school, just as our school provides great times and memories for our kids through all these games. Truly, I meant no harm. I know that people talk about Goodpasture all the time, as well, and we've been the source of more talk than CH has ever dreamed of. You are welcome to have the last word, because I had no intention to start an argument or any bantering back and forth. It was very obvious that your team works very hard in practice by the game they gave us. Our district is very competitive, and on any given night, any of these teams has the ability to beat a great team or to give up an "easy" game with silly mistakes or with overlooking someone.
  19. P.S. Thanks for the compliments to our team from the previous posters. We do have a lot going for us this year, and the guys work hard To the original post writer, I hope I didn't sound mean with my immediate response, but it hit me that you indicated we had weak guards. I think our starting guards are strong. Sorry if my quick comeback offended you...
  20. 20 plus wins is nice, but who were they playing overall during that time? I can honestly tell you they ARE a good team, as I indicated before. If you have been listening to the word on the street, however, there is much talk about "recruiting" at your school, as there has been at ours, I am sure. Four of our five starters grew up at Goodpasture, and I mean all the way through. I'm just telling you that from talk at MANY schools, people are questioning some things that are going on at CH. It won't change anything, and it doesn't effect me one way or the other. I'm just always for the kids. If there are kids who have grown up at your school and don't get to play ball because new guys are being brought in to create something, I just hate that for those kids. Just as I said I hate the kids not getting their name in the paper when they work so hard. I meant that for your team, as well. Your kids deserved that "momento" and the lesson of losing graciously in a hard fought game more than the coach needed to prove his point, or whatever it was, by not putting the score in. I'm just a mom and a soft-heart, so take any of my comments in that regard. Never meant to hurt any feelings. I'm just telling you what I'm hearing and giving my opinion, for what little it is worth.
  21. It was an ugly game, for sure. We made a LOT of mistakes. We were actually up by 11 late and their 3 pointers killed us. They have more than one solid player, so give no one man the credit, as so often happens. We beat them this summer at Gallatin tournament by not a lot and at their home court earlier this year. They, for some reason, would not put the score in the paper when they lost at home, although their girls got pounded by our girls and they were gracious enough to put that score in. (That happens to be one of my pet peeves, because the kids deserve their recognition, especially those who rarely do score, which was the case that night, so it aggravated me.) Anyway, they are a team to be respected, not overlooked. However, it does seem kind of odd that that many good players just happen to go to that little bitty school all of the sudden. Any thoughts on that?
  22. Goodpasture has weak guards??? You must be kidding!
  23. One request to College Heights and any other team that loses at home...please be gracious and call your scores in to the paper. In all fairness to the boys who practice every day and work so hard, and especially to those who rarely score, give them their credit for all of Nashville to see and appreciate. You can teach life lessons to these kids in losing graciously and doing that, no matter what the results of the game were. The game was just that - a game for the moment. The name in the paper could be the thrill of a lifetime.. Coaches, maybe you can better explain to me (not a coach) reasons, other than what I suspect, about why teams don't call in when they lose.
  24. I was not UNsettled. I just don't have a lot of time to search around and thought maybe I had missed it or couldn't find it. Please, for dummies like me, when it does come out make it very plainly seen, because I only have a few minutes a day to look through this. And to compliment all of you who work at this, you do a great job and I have very much enjoyed reading the comments and updates throughout the basketball season. This is a wonderful tool to vent frustrations, get information, and even unify teams and regions as they support one another down the home stretch. Thanks very much for having this.
