The Gibson Co. OC game was one great game! Then again the Lady Pioneers played another double overtime game vs. Northside. OC has the upper hand in 13AA it's gonna be a dog fight for 2nd and 3rd! Don't count Covington out....they are very athletic. Go Gibson County!

I might add that the Chargerettes had a phenomenal year, losing to three very good teams. What's amazing to me is that it was a tossup whether they would even win their district this year after graduating some great Seniors off last year's squad - yet here they play for the state championship game this year and made the heavily-favored Gibson County squad earn the narrow victory. I thought Central was #1 in the Polls?? How could Gibson County be so heavily favored? Congratulations to both teams for giving us the best game of the tournament. Both teams played their hearts out. Thanks Lady Pioneers for the great memories from this year!

Me too...I would love to have one. Unfortuantly I had to miss the replay. I had a meeting that I could not get out of.

LOL, I'm not taking up for my "babygirls" as you say considering all I am is a fan of GC sports. Let me ask.....are you blinde? Gibson Co. never double teamed Fussell unless it was in our press and we were trapping her as the 1-2-1-1 press is set up to do. In our half court defense, it was either Brittney Garner (2009 season) or Courtney Haynes or Heather Butler (this season) guarding her man up. You are right on this one GCPioneer. Gibson Co. does not double team anyone. They haven't doubled her the 3-4 years I have followed 13AA when she was playing. Sophomore Courtney Haynes usually got that assignment this year. The only reason would be on a trap on the press. This guy has never watched too much of Gibson Co. girls basketball.

Congratulations to Jackson County. Your trophy case just got bigger! You guys are blessed to have a dominate program there year after year. Good coaching and Middle School programs must be a tremendous benefit! That always makes for great players.

Who else do want Gibson Co to play out of district? For the past 3-4 years the 13AA has had teams in the top 5 in the state consistently. They don't have to play anyone else in my opinion. They play these teams at least twice a year and sometimes more during tournaments. Also, earlier on there were Class A had some good teams as well who have won state championships and have beaten Gibson Co. Gibson co. has 2 consecutive Gold Balls based on the schedule they play....pretty darn good in my opinion!

Yeah and when you look closely @ the tournament program if I counted correctly......Gisbon County (one county) which is in West TN and includes several schools accross all classifaictaions....has brought back 14 GOLD balls and I think 2 or 3 silver balls over the years. In girls basketball alone. JUST FROM ONE COUNTY! NOT BAD FOR A SMALL COUTNY IN WEST TENNESSEE!

That would sort of make it a team thing wouldn't it ??..... That is why in my post I made it a point to put the "individual award" thing in my first sentence....It shouldn't matter, if it's an individual thing, if the TEAM the player was on was 0-30.... I will say this...That championship game was the most exciting girls game I have ever seen....Heather Butler put on a show in this tournament...She put her team on her back and willed them to win in the championship game.....It was a joy to watch.... It will be fun to see what UTM does over the next few years....McMillan and the Lady Skyhawks had their footprint all over Saturday's activities...Every time you turned around the PA guy was announcing another UTM recruit.... Your right Purple & Gold....Thats why I said the way the system is set up now Fussell probably desrved it. I know its not going to change, I was just offering my opinion. I would take our 3 and Fussell and Rechis on my team any day! I didnt agree with the scatering of boo's that came from the crowd...kid's i guess mainly...they just came off a tremendous 3 days watching a AA girl set the tournament record for points. (93) I'm not sure if most fans even understand it was for the regualr season. Anyway, Fussell will do well and I look forward to seeing her like I have seen Poston some with Purdue. But I will be going to watch the 3 seniors play @ UTM when I can.

Congratulations to Fussell...even though the announcer mispronounced her name. She is a great player, but there is a difference in her and Heather Butler. You never saw Butler scream at her team mates on the floor in the 4 years I have wathced them play in 13AA basketaball. Butler always would lead by example and be encouraging. And she has 2 Gold Team Championship trophies! And a AA state tourney M.V.P. trophy. That's what will be remembered 10 years down the road. This was an idividual award and Fussell desreved it based on how the sytem is set up presently. It just seems strange that you have one who played in 3 State Championship tournaments and helped her team win 2 back to back Gold Balls and the other never played in a state championship, as far as I know. But, that's why its an individual award for the regular season. But don't most teams strive @ the beginning of the year to win a championship? So in my opinion it should include the entire season including through the State Tournaments. (thats just my opionion though) Congratulations Fussell @ Texas as she will do well. Also congratulations to Butler, Reedy & Griffin. You are going to build an OVC dynasty @ UTM! It's been fun to watch you over the last 4 years competing in the toughest district from top to bottom in the state 13AA! I will take the state championships any day.

Well folks, in my opinion we saw the two best teams play for the AA championship tonight. MC gave Gibson Co. all they wanted, and was the only team in this this tournament on the same caliber. I said in my earlier post, that MC would give Gibson Co. problems due to their size and they did. MC has nothing to be ashamed of. Their team came to compete and play. That # 11 is a "player" (forgot her name). She killed us in the first half, but when Gibson Co and Coach Russell made the adjusments @ half, and after that time out, it was a different game. The changes he made on the press made the difference. Gibson Co. started forcing turnovers and cutting into the lead. We also had other players that stepped up BIG TIME! WE ONLY PLAYED 6 and MC I think Played 7!! Amazing! I have seen Butler play for 8 years including middle school, and she is the most unselfish players I have ever known, and one of the nicest young ladies you will ever meet. (trust me I know her well) The thing about the last 2 years are theses girls are coachable and Butler knows how to lead a team and take a team on her back if neccessary. 93 points for a tournament record! She is my "miss basketball" in my opinion when you bring your team to the state tournamnet 3 times and win 2 Gold Championship Balls! Thats a discussion for another thread. Congratualtions to both teams for providing the best game of the entire tournament. Gibson Co. thanks for bringing the Gold Ball back again to West Tennessee!

Gibson County should take care of things Saturday. MC will have the height advantage, but Gibson Co. will win. They know how to win big games and this is a big one. MC I think will make it close and cause problems for the Pioneers, but Gibson Co. has too many weapons that can step up. If they let them play physical like MC did vs. WV it may work to Gibson Co. advantage. That tech against Rechis should not have been called. Ref's should know better than that. From my perspective that was not a tech...maybe a foul yes.... Gibson Co. plays pressure all the way the whole court. Just as long as its called both ways and you let the girls decide the outcome. Should be a good championship game, but I think Gibson Co. will come away with the Gold Ball!!

Let's hope we play better Friday. If we do we will be O.K. I'll give CPA credit....they played good defense inside and out on the perimeter....deflecting a lot of passes. Go Gibson Co.

All I can say right now folks is it's a 3 game tourney. Any arrogant posts you may be seeing on here about Gibson Co. are probably posters who don't know the history. I for one take nothing for granted, because I've seen it all first hand. Anything can happen and through my 15 some odd years following Gibson Co. I have seen it all!!! We have brought strong teams up there several times....including an undefeated team and went home after 1 game. Twice beaten on game winning shots..... At this point all 8 teams who are there have the ability to run the table. (my opinion) We will see what happens Wednesday. I for one though will be pulling for Gibson Co. Let's lace 'em up and see what happens!

Congratulations to Gibson Co. That was a thrashing! Its hard to come into our place with 1,500 to 2,000 fans. It's intimidating and it showed tonight with Manassas. Butler played insane tonight! Griffin and Haynes also stepped up big time. Ready dominating on the boards. If Gibson Co. can continue 3 more games like tonight, we will be hard to beat by any team in any classification! Good luck girls. Keep your eyes on the ultimate goal. It's a 3 game season right now!

Redbirdfan...I could not have said it better myself. Girls basketball in 13AA and region 7AA is fun to watch and I would say one of the more competitive for girls basketball probably in the state. I have always loved watching 13AA as I have been a follower for some 18 years. I love this time of year. Good luck to all the seniors from OC. We all just need to keep this whole thing in perspective....its only a game. In the overall scheme of things it won't matter how many awards you win, but how you are as a person and the witness you show as a christian. (my opinion)

I'd like to see that "Want It More Meter".... ...I doubt very seriously Westview wanted it anymore than Obion Central.... Both teams made big runs in the game...Both teams had their star players lead them and both had role players step up as well...You can't miss free throws, turn the ball over and miss lay-ups and expect to beat Westview or Gibson County....A game is 32 minutes long...It doesn't matter if you have a lead or are tied for 31:53 of a game..You got to be ahead when the final horn sounds...That's what Westview did, they won and congrats to them....[/quote Well all I know, is when the horn sounded WV was on top...coming back from 15 points down! OC had their chances to put it away early and they couldn't in the first half. I have one those "Want It More Meter" if you want to borrow it. That was Just an observation from a guy who has seen a lot of basketball in my time. Both teams played extremely well. It was a great game.

It is a gut-wrenching way to lose a game.....Lead for 31:53 of a game then miss a lay-up with a little over a second to play.... Your right. That's a tough way to loose a game. Congratulations to all the seniors from OC. They played their hearts out.

That was one of the most amazing come back wins I have ever witnessed. Its hard to overcome a 15 point deficit in 7AA against a good 13AA team. That shows a lot of heart. In the end you could tell WV wanted it more than OC in my opinion. Congratulations WV & congratulations to the OC team. I appreciate how respectful WV crowd was too. Can't really say that for the OC student body. Looks like we got a match-up between the two best teams in 13AA as I have said all season. Let's lace 'em up get it on! Go Gibson Co.

Yeah I heard that too on the radio coming back from the Gibson Co. game. Should be a good game. I still think WV will come out on top. We will see.

I am predicting another Gibson Co. WV match up in the finals. Only this time I think Stephenson will use that talent that he returned from last year and let them play. WV can cause problems for Gibson Co. , but I'm still going with Gibson Co. in the final in a close game.

So based on this seeding it looks like WV and Obion will have to meet again to make it to the finals? Is that correct?

Five dollars says that ankle is better Friday, lol. GC you know it will be.
