Great High School football player. A better person.Most have had the great game agaist Murfreesboro Oakland in 87.The score in 88 was 11-3 if I remember correctly.Coach Alsup had us ALL over him that night.He had alot of balls,but not for big yards.That was the night McAdoo,Mitchell, and Riggs put on a show.Lebanon was #1 in the state.Oakland was beat the week before by Lincoln Co. 19-0 to lose # 1.MTSU WAS FULL THAT night.He was a fine person.God bless his family.

The current coach at Northwest would be a great hire.He has coached the team almost by his self for the last two years.He was promised coaches, but didn't get them.He took over a team that was in bad shape.I know from the fact that my sons played against Northwest .He is sharp, and a good man from what I know about him.He could of had the Springfield job,until the Hillsboro coach came in the picture.Being a Murfreesboro Oakland grad, I know a little about Cannon County football.You need someone who can get along with people.They don't think they are bigger than the program.

I asked Offutt,and he said it was not true.He is staying at SHS as AD.If he had gone to NW it was as an assitant coach.There are going to be very few teaching positions in Clarksville this year.

What's the time line on both jobs?West Creek interviews were done last week, or not? I heard the coach from the north was the man.It should be fun to watch.Both jobs could be good.If the right things are done to help the coaches.They could be Clarksville or Rossview,or Northwest. Than have to start over.It all amounts to THIS,are the coaches going to be able to bring staffs.

Kevin 38.Call Offutt, He wants to see SHS go.He may even be at another county,but he likes people with guts.You have showed that on the board. I'm sure he would try to help.His son says he's not a board person. HE gets his information from him, but I know he wants SHS people there. HE has talked with Myers about getting Jackets on the staff. He may be able to help you out.I have got to meet the guy.He isn't as a big as a ###### as some make him out.

Heard Coach Tharpe will put in for the job at West Creek, if Mac does'nt apply.Also the DC at Rossview.I have been told 30 people have put their names in the hat.It has only been open a week.I'M still looking for the Springfield coach to be named.I was told by a member of the AD's family at SHS THAT WOULD TAKE PLACE NEXT WEEK.There are alot of good jobs out there right now.

Springfield has 75 on the roster.Lebanon was good .Depth will be SHS'S problem.TO many going both ways.Coaches have to figure out how to keep the players on the field wiitout a great dropoff.OFFENSE looked good.Defense has work to do.If they figure the problems out, they could be good.Maybe very good.

Springfield should be better than that.The town is looking forward to the season. 80 PLAYERS out . THE most in a long time.40 freshmen, some good enough to play this year.

Catfish remember Springfield IN the old 3A WAS GOOD.They are the smallest 4A TEAM IN THE STATE.Like their Coach or not ,They were 10-0 in 06.Looking at past posts( Northeast) you seem to know a lot about him and his family.Would they be better off with a new coach in 09. I know he does'nt like playing Greenbrier.He played ball with Williams at GHS.THIS WILL BE A TELLING YEAR FOR THE JACKETS.

Higher powers are now rethinking the Offutt mess.Coach Smith's boys are starting to get in this.They like him and want him to stay.His son is also wanting to finish as a Jacket.I heard his father is going to kick a body part if he leaves. I'M surprizied about this community support. I guess it is because he's one of Pearson's boys.If Jerry Pearson wants him to be there.People WILL listen. That is the reason he got the job in the first place

Catfish how do you have all this information? I know there is an out cry of parents and players to have him in the same positions next year.I don't know if the town knows they are about to lose a football coach.I have heard if he goes to coach alone ,he will lose $7k a year. I have heard he has been offered the D.C position at Riverdale.I don't know maybe he needs to go.A HOMETOWN boy sometimes has problems at home.His record isn't that good.I will give him credit .He makes the players act right.

At the Board of Control meeting last week the Z plan was talked about a great deal. People who have been to several of these meeting seem to think the current football plan is on death watch. The current plan was given very discussion time.

From what I have heard the Z plan or the playoff system used by the 2A'S this past season with wild cards are the two most looked at plans. The Z plan and the 2A playoff format are two totally different things.In the Z plan 2A and 3A teams would have to play each other in the regular season. 4A and 5A would also play. It would just depend who was in your basketball district. The playoff system used in 2A is set up with 27 teams making the playoffs by finishing in the top three in their regions. Five teams would make the playoffs as at large teams from state wide. The thing about that system is the teams are all 2A in each region.The Z plan would not split teams until the playoffs.If there were 120 teams in 2A basketball ,the 60 smallest schools would be 2A football, and the 60 biggest would be 3A football.The top two teams from each district receive playoff spots to whatever class they fall into. The rest of the teams would be picked as wild cards from across the state. My biggest problem with it is that I would hate to be one of the small schools having to play the bigger schools to make the playoffs.Go ask some of the small schools how it was in the day of three classes.It wasn't how far you would go in the playoffs, but could you get there. I did have someone in the know tell me today the Z plan was losing support. I STILL THINK THERE COULD BE FOUR CLASSES IN ALL SPORTS.

Yes the 2A teams would have to play the 3A teams.The same for 4A teams against 5A teams.The reason the five classes were started was to cut the size of the schools playing each other.This plan would force the smaller schools to play the bigger.In 9AAA Beech and Mt.Juliet both 4A in football would be playing Gallatin,Hendersonville,Smyrna, La Vergne and Wilson Central all 5A schools. They already play some of these teams, but they choose to,not forced to.

A 5A team could make the playoff by not playing another team in their class. Dickson County would be an example. If their basketball district remains the same,there would not be another 5A school to play.Clarkville N.E. will be dropping down. The whole purpose of five classes was to keep schools student populations closer together in each class. This defeats the purpose of the 5 class plan.A smaller school could be forced to play much larger schools. I hope they keep things the way they are.

I have been told Ronnie Carter is pushing hard for it.

Offutt at Springfield is an assistant principal ,and Head Coach. 10-0 last year.Maybe luck or good job.Only time will tell.

Heard Offutt on the radio this morning.It seems workouts have not gone well.He said he is ready to rebuilt again.The upper classmen had better come to work in July, or there is going to be another youth movement.He will not take anyone not working at 100%.Leadership was the key to the team.He called the Seniors out.Get with it or be gone.The record may go backwards,but not work ethic.
