  1. So nice to be called out by our classless neighbors on the south side of town. Someone gives their opinions about teams and ask other thoughts and instead of giving your top ten you decide to give everyone an update of your teams resume and then make outlandish comments about another. Here is a lesson I learned as a child that might be helpful for you in the future: If you are good at something then other people will notice and brag on you, but you never tell others how great you are. That was free! You should be good if you are starting 6 seniors. Walker Valley only has two this year and on some nights starts 4 Freshmen. They had two starters quit to focus on junior olympic volleyball two weeks into practice minus the two starting seniors from last year. I would say they play a tough schedule since it includes GPS, Soddy, Baylor, Ooltewah (twice), Boyd Buchanan, Notre Dame, Hume-Fogg, Trinity Christian and of course Bradley. As for last year, they were without the two starters that quit for more that 30 games of the season along with a shortstop that reinjured her ankle and had to miss games while managing to defeat McMinn, Cleveland and Bradley to make it to the district championship game where they lost on a 3 run homerun with 2 strikes and 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th. You say that historically WV has not had good seasons. In 04 they had a 30-16 record and finished 4th at the State Tournament with only 11 players and no seniors. In 05 they went 37-13 finishing as the State Runner-up with only 3 Seniors. Please don't grant them credit as you say and maybe they will pull off one of those good upsets that you least expect in the district tournament again this year. You need to try being addicted to facts instead of softball. You might not make as big a fool out of yourself. I would imagine that Indians' high ranking is due to the fact that Walker Valley has had a few great seasons and earned the respect of their softball peers. I promise that if you put up numbers and wins that they will speak for themselves and people like myself that truly are addicted to softball will give you the credit you need and desire. I will start first; Bradley has some strong sticks, some confidence, some maturity, some good kids, some desire and some good players and on some nights they can play with almost anyone. Good luck to them this year except during the district tournament.

    Schedules

Still can't add schedules. The title has changed to 2007 but the wording is still from last year. When you try to add games is still says 2006 and will not let you do it.
  3. Congratulations to the Ocoee Middle School Lady Colts on winning their first TVAC regular season and conference tournament. GPS played a great game but OMS finished with the 2-1 victory. Congrats to all the girls in the TVAC that made the All-TVAC and All-Conference teams.
  4. Ocoee will host Gps at Walker Valley Thursday for the TVAC Championship. GPS defeated Baylor and Ocoee defeated Cleveland last night. Game time is 5pm.
  5. Ocoee defeated GPS tonight 6-1 and finished as the #1 seed going into next weeks tournament. Chatt Christian will play at Cleveland on Monday. The winner will play Ocoee Tuesday while Baylor will play at GPS. The winners will meet Thursday for the Championship of the TVAC. Hopefully, this will be Ocoee's year. They lost the championship to Cleveland last year by 1 run in the bottom of the 7th. They lost to GPS in the Championship 2 years before that. Maybe with the home field advantage this year they can get it done. However, this has been the most level playing field the TVAC has ever had. Four teams are capable of winning it. Good luck Lady Colts!
  6. If Ocoee beats GPS again tomorrow night, they will finish first for the TVAC regular season. If GPS wins, they will be the #1 seed and Ocoee will fall to third due to the tie breaker situation with Baylor. Cleveland is the 4th seed and Chattanooga Christian is the 5th seed. Ocoee split with Cleveland and Baylor this year, giving them their only two losses. These girls have come a long way. Good luck to the 8th graders on their final home game tomorrow night.
  7. What weekend will your high school tournament be this year?
  8. Sequatchie will play Ocoee at Walker Valley on Saturday as well.
  9. Walker Valley will send their info in next week. They will come for either the 3 or 4 day option.
  10. Ocoee is now 2-0 on the season. They have defeated Chatt Christian 8-3 and GPS 6-4. Still hitting the ball real well but they are also making some silly mistakes on defense. They play a DH with Lake Forest this week and also another conference game with Chatt Christian. Good luck ladies. As for the coaching turnover, the assistant coach from last year was a non-faculty coach and was offered a teaching position just as school was starting along with the assistant positions at Cleveland Middle and High. The next assistant was hired a week later at Lake Forest and is helping out with football now. The third assistant is now back due to a change in her schedule. Maybe the stability that is coming will make for an enjoyable rest of the season.
  11. I thought Ocoee did rather well considering the loss of 7 starters from last year's team and the loss of 3 different assistant coaches since school has started. Finishing 4th wasn't that bad considering the 2 losses came from the two teams that played for the championship. Carpenter beat OMS 2-1 on a wild pitch with a runner on third. OMS beat Jasper pretty bad Saturday morning and almost came back to beat them in the bottom of the seventh the second time they played. OMS has three inexperienced pitchers and at times had problems on the defensive end. However, they out hit every team they played except for the last game against Jasper. I think Jasper played a great tournament and definitely got better as the day went on, however, Carpenter was the team to beat that weekend.
  12. Ocoee Middle School finished 4th in the Athens Tournament. They lost 2-1 to a good Carpenter team on Friday night. On Saturday, they defeated Jasper, Sequatchie and Cleveland. They then lost to Jasper. Not a bad weekend for a team that lost 7 starters from last year's team.
  13. Serves them right. They should have given T-bone the job at Stone Memorial. Whoever gets the Stone Memorial job will be fortunate because they will be playing in 2A with most of Cumberland's team. I don't know how long it will take Cumberland to recover from this, but they sure have a beautiful playing facility.
  14. Best of luck coach. You will make winners out of your new girl's in Georgia. You are a gentleman and a great coach. Kill the Georgia teams with your hit and run game plan. God Bless!

    All-State

Any news when the All-State selections will be named?
  16. He is not going to the new high school. I was just wondering if he was staying at Cumberland County. He is a great coach and I wish him well not matter what he does.
  17. Does anyone know if Coach T is staying at Cumberland County?
  18. All City is in today's paper. Sorry, I don't feel like typing all of that out.
  19. For All-Area: Player of the Year was Ashton Burrell from Walker Valley and the Coach of the Year was Randy Ellis from Whitwell. Teams of the Year were Whitwell #1, Bledsoe County #2 and Walker Valley #3. First Team : Bradley Central's Leah Banks and Rachel McKay. Whitwell's Jaya Cookston and Jessica Reynolds. Bledsoe County's Ashley Ellis, Katlyn Gilbert and Mary McGowan. Cleveland had Heather Fields. Walker Valley had Meagan Masingale. Marion County's Brittany Paris and Jennifer Spangler. Sequatchie County had Courntey Skyles. Second Tteam: Bradley Central had Britni Pearce. Bledsoe County's Koti Bowman and Brittany Holland. Walker Valley's Ashley Bryson and Lauren Whaley. South Pittsburg's Lauren Castle and Monique Leroy. Sequatchie County had Brittany Cooley. McMinn County had Brittany Fox. Marion County had Cassie Kilgore. Cleveland had Heather Moore. Rhea County had Charlie Wooden. I don't think that All City has run yet. Congratulations to all of these ladies. I admire your hard work, your sacrifices and your dedication.
  20. Baylor sends St. Benedict home. Friendship is about to send Forest home. More controversy between Soddy and Ooltewah I have been told. Not sure of the details or the score.

    AAA

It is a shame that both Soddy and Riverdale will not be in the State Tournament. Im my opinion, these are the best two teams in AAA. Not a fan of either school but I believe both of these teams are truly loaded with talent. Should be a great game if the weather holds off. Best of luck to all the teams that are still alive.

    6AAA

Should be a good game. Cumberland has a beautiful facility. Both teams have great coaches and great players. Best of luck.
  23. Walker Valley finally started playing up to their potential during the District Tournament. Bradley would have won in the 10th inning if not for the unbelievable catch made by Meagan Masingale in Centerfield that saved two runs. Kelli Ledford got her sac bunt down to put the winning run on third and Ashotn Burrell got the RBI single to win the game. All three of these seniors are special and stepped up when the team needed them. Bradley had a heck of a season and showed everyone that they are a very good softball team. Best of luck to their seniors next year in college. WV had the opportunity to force the if necessary game but made an error and their DP hit a three run home run with 2 outs and 2 strikes. Congrats to them on a wonderful season. Coach T is a class act.
  24. Congrats to Coach VanWinkle, you deserve it. I wish I could have seen that game. Take it to East Ridge!!
