  1. Greeneville 13 Cherokee 7 (per Hoople in today's Times-News)
  2. I heard that Greeneville is nicked up on defense. Truth or rumor?
  3. As of today, these are the region standings: Region 1: South and TN High 2-0); Elizabethton, Johnson Co., East, & North tied for 3rd at 1-1 Region 2: Boone, East, & West 2-0; Cherokee & Greeneville just behind at 1-1 Region 3: Maryville 3-0; Central & West tied for 2nd at 2-0; Powell 1-1 Region 4: Cleveland, Red Bank & Rhea Co. 2-0; Hixson & White Co. tied for 4th at 1-1 Someone else do the permutations. They make my head hurt
  4. Yeah but most of those pages are dedicated to the status of Boone's program not Cocke Co. nor the game. Important 2 week road stretch for the Trojans with games against East & Boone. Winner tonight continues toward the region championship although I can see a 6-1 team taking the crown this year. It is critical that West's offense stop the turnovers and the defense stop the penalties. Both almost cost us the game last week. SEE YA AT BURKE-TONEY. ROLL TROJANS!!
  5. FYI ..... Hoople predicts Boone 13, Cocke Co. 20 in this morning's Times-News
  6. I'm a Mo-West fan so I don't have a dog in this hunt but after seeing the scores and reading the posts and newspaper articles about both teams, my prediction is TN 24 South 17. Regardless, I'll bet that the Castle will be as rowdy as Burke-Toney in Mo-town tomorrow night. Good luck to both the Vikings and Rebels. Maybe we'll see you'all in the playoffs.
  7. So I'm going to Hooters just for the chicken wings ... glad you cleared that up, Barb.
  8. Mostly OK. I think I would move Knox West to the 8 spot, though.
  9. FYI ..... Swain County is currently 1-5. In defense of Knox West, their 3 losses are from Knox Webb (by 1 point), Bearden (by 3 points), and West (by 5 points). The Rebels are a very good program and would be top dog in region 3 but for Maryville and K-Central. In defense of Jefferson County (and I can't believe I'm doing this), those 3 losses came from West (an on-going rivalry from the old IMAC days), D-B (a region 1 foe), and Oak Ridge (an inter-regional rival). All of these 3 teams are ranked in the top ten or better by various polls. Off the top of my head, I can't think of a school that has had a tougher schedule for the 1st half of the season. Last word on this subject regarding Daniel Boone High School. Boone has a very good football program and has been a great and very welcome addition to region 2. The Blazers have raised the playing level in region 2 up a notch by their presence. And I don't see that status changing anytime for any reason in the near future. There's my 3 cents worth. Besides, I thought this was a Boone/Cocke Co. thread. Good luck to both teams tomorrow night. Word to Boone - don't take the Big Red lightly. They snuck up on West a few years back when the Trojans were looking a week ahead to Maryville and always give their utmost. And if you can't get to Newport, then come on up to Mo-town and Burke-Toney to view a real slobber-knocker between East and West. ROLL TROJANS!
  10. The old guy must still be licking his wounds from last week. Looking back at all the posts, his record is 34-10.
  11. The balance has only shifted towards West's favor during the last 10 years where the Trojans have gone 7-3 (I think that's correct) during that time. Before that, the series is virtually even. If the coaches' revolving door can be stopped at East, I see the series going back to a more even status. I really want to see the day come when both West & East are routinely at the top of the standings when the playoffs start. Come one, come all, but come early tomorrow night because Burke-Toney's gonna be rockin!! ROLL TROJANS!!!
  12. Assuming that both West & Boone win this week, next week will answer a very important question about both teams. For Boone, the question is "Is this a program that is ready to join the upper level in 4A"? They were on the edge last year and I think a definitive win next week would have to make the answer a solid 'yes'; a loss would mean 'almost but not quite there yet'. For West, the question is "How will you perform on a hostile field against a very good team?" One criticism this year against the Trojans was that they hadn't been tested yet. Part of the answer to that question came last week against a very talented Knox West team. That was a strong win but the game was in Morristown. How they play next week in Gray can possibly determine how deep a run this year's Trojan team can make into the playoffs. That's my 2 cents worth. Good luck to both teams this week. ROLL TROJANS!!
  13. I know that opinions are like elbows but I would classify a program like Dobyns-Bennett as a 'powerhouse'. I'm not sure that I would place Boone in that category, yet. I will agree, however, that the Blazers are a very, very good team this year.
  14. This game will be an old-fashioned slobber-knocker. If I wasn't going to be in Mo-Town, I'd be watching this game. Cherokee is larger than Greeneville and, although they're awfully thin in numbers, I think the Devils have enough speed to offset the size advantage. Devils by a touchdown.
  15. If the 4A scores hold true, look at the logjam that would exist in both conferences: MLC: After TN High, a 4-way tie for 2nd place between South, Elizabethton, Johnson Co. and North. After South, 3 of TN High's last 4 games are away (including Johnson and North). South, on the other hand, has already beaten Johnson and will have Elizabethton next after this week's game and North 2 weeks later (both games at Death Valley). 5 Rivers: Boone and West tied for 1st at 3-0, East & Greeneville tied for 3rd at 2-1, and Cherokee and Crockett tied for 5th at 1-2. Boone will face West next week for absolute claim to the title of "Top Dog" and will play East in the last game of the season. After Boone, West still must play Greeneville & Cherokee (both at home). Crockett still has Boone, Greeneville, & Cherokee. The good news for the Pioneers is that these 3 games will be played in Jonesborough; the bad news is that it is Boone, Greeneville, & Cherokee.
  16. I've seen both teams and West is very good. Rebels by at least 20.
  17. Well said. A prime example of this occurred back in '01 when the Big Red became the only 5 Rivers team to hand West a regular season conference loss in five seasons (1999-2003).
  18. Yes ... next week. East is the only focus for the Trojans this week.
  19. Point taken. You guys played with a lot of heart as well. Best of luck in a very tough region 3.
  20. 4 tough games lie ahead for the Trojans. East, at Boone, Greeneville, then away at Cherokee. No disrespect meant to the Big Red who will host West as the last game.
  21. Yes. But let's remember that Boone is also out there undefeated in region play and has a very big say in how things will finally shake out.
  22. Other than reducing the number of penalties, I'm not worried about West's D. They matched up very well with the Rebels last night. The O, on the other hand, needs to eliminate the turnovers. Correct those two things and I think it's a very long night for the 'Canes.
  23. After the West game was over, we tuned the radio to listen to the 'Canes and came in when one of the East players was injured. I glad to hear that they're OK.
