  1. I guess it's good that it's on a Saturday instead of a weeknight as in years past. Looking forward to attending.
  2. I have noticed that you know a lot about FR...is your child a student or are you an alumni. I have enjoyed reading your perspective.
  3. Congratulations to our TN players making the top 79 and 300 list: Top 79: Ellen Mullins, 5-4 Libero, Father Ryan (Nashville TN) ??“ One of the pre-eminent liberos in her class, Mullins was a back row force both passing and on defense and was a key cog in Father Ryan??™s return to the Division II state finals. Her great year was punctuated by being named First Team All-Midstate by the Tennessean as well as First Team All State in Division II. Nicole Smith, 6-0 OH, Page (Franklin TN) ??“ Smith missed some time this year after suffering a concussion, but still was a stat stuffer for the Patriots, tallying 353 kills, 35 blocks and 52 aces as Page reached the Class A-AA semifinals. For her effort, Smith was named First Team All-Midstate by the Tennessean as well as First Team All State in Class A-AA. High Honorable Mention: Sarah McClure, 5-5 S, Brentwood (TN) ??“ A proficient setter with a killer jump serve, McClure set the Bruins to another state AAA championship in 2007. Kylann Scheidt, 6-0 S/OH, Farragut (Knoxville TN) ??“ A move in from Nebraska, Scheidt was First Team All District and Second Team All Area after putting up 251 kills, 116 blocks, 412 assists and 62 aces. She may have moved state, but the Division I programs have found this young star.
  4. Scarlet Gable, 5-9 OH, Munford (TN) " One of five finalists for the ???Best of Preps??? by the Memphis Commercial Appeal, Gable led Munford to a 29-12 record in 2007, which included a trip to the state tournament, the first time any girls??™ team in any sport from Munford had advanced that far. Nicknamed the ???Flyin Hawaiian??? after moving from Oahu over the summer, Gable, who dominated on the pin and in the back row, was MVP of both the district and the regional tournaments and was District Player of the Year. Madelyn Hutson, 6-4 MB, Ravenwood (Brentwood TN) " An absolutely dominating presence despite her tender years and a player everyone will know by the time she graduates, Hutson was by far the best player in the strongest District in the state, according to one coach. She was named First Team All-District and Second Team All-Midstate by the Tennesean and Second Team All State in Class AAA. Hutson, also a standout basketball player, took a team that was never a threat to win and led them to within one win of a state tourney berth. The team that beat them, Brentwood, won the state title. ???She could be the Gatorade player of the year in Tennessee for the next four years,??? said Impact club director Jay Golsteyn in mid-October. ???She is that good.??? Cheyanne Kyle, 5-0 S/OH, Columbia Central (Columbia TN) " A hard-working sparkplug, Kyle helped her team double its win total from the year before. She led her team in kills with 131 and aces with 80 and was second in assists with 166. She was voted 1st Team All-District.
  5. Congratulations to the following TN HS players who made Prepvolleyball's HS All American list for the 2007 season![/b] Kayla Arnold, 6-0 Jr. MB, Greenbrier (Green Brier TN) Becca Brewster, 5-10 Sr. MB, Brentwood (TN) Jasmine Brown, 5-10 Jr. S/RS, Girls Preparatory School (Chattanooga TN) Marie Mullins, 5-9 Sr. S, Father Ryan (Nashville TN) Hannah Shadrick, 5-8 Sr. OH, Girls Preparatory School (Chattanooga TN) Hannah was also the only player in TN to also make the Academic All American list Also on the list for Highest Honorable Mention: Rebekah Smith, 6-1 Jr. OH, Hutchison School (Memphis TN)
  6. I hope we can count on some R'dale folks to sit with us in the student section. Guaranteed to be a good time and we could definitely use the voice power -- your fans are great.
  7. The student section will be proud and loud. I have a car full already and trying to organize other parents to transport. Too bad it's over Thanksgiving otherwise we maybe could have gotten a bus load or two like we did for Riverdale a few weeks ago.
  8. I don't get it. The new school is 3 stories and will be packed full next fall...why aren't you competing in 5A?
  9. This one is the Wildcats all the way! No way Smyrna can touch the momentum this team and these coaches have right now. WC 21 SHS 12
  10. In all honesty, this was a game I dreaded seeing our guys play. Riverdale is tough and it's really hard to play the same team twice in 4 weeks...it's also hard for you to beat a team twice in a row. Great season Riverdale -- it was fun.
  11. Consider your team spanked. WC is leaving it ALL on the field tonight when it really counts.
  12. Scores? It isn't even posted on the CoachT scoreboard!
  13. And the bigger they are the harder (and further) they fall. I am loving that 92% picked Riverdale. Go Cats!!!
  14. This game will be SO close -- gotta go with WC by 3 in the final minutes but I think TDCman hit the nail on the head...HOME field...we're gonna be loud and proud on Friday night.
  15. I don't believe it applies today but would think that it will sometime in the future. The 50% rule is very controversial. It currently applies to basketball, baseball and softball. With club soccer and volleyball very prominent in the state, it is (IMHO) only a matter of time before those 2 sports are added to the 50% rule. I mean, really, how could that rule hold up in court unless all club sports are included? Of course, it will effect some club vb teams but the bigger clubs generally have a wider distribution of schools (my daughter's team had 9 schools represented among 10 players). It will have a devastating effect on smaller clubs and "one-off" teams.
  16. I think this is a GREAT idea, wish I could participate. I went on Wednesday night at MTSU last year but with the schedule posted for Thursday and Friday I don't see anyway to get away from work /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> If there is interest for meeting Wednesday night at MTSU (I know some teams play at Blackman--don't get me started on THAT) I might be able to swing it. If not, have FUN...meeting other posters from CoachT and from PrepVolleyball is a "hobby" of mine (especially if libations are involved)...right, BB317?
  17. And a big AMEN to this one...poor serving is my hot button /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  18. Holy Moly -- upsets in 11AAA last night??? Ravenwood takes Independence in 5 games with the score of game 5 --- 15 -1 ??? Hillsboro takes Franklin in 5 ?? Ravenwood plays Brentwood tonight at 5pm -- since my team doesn't play again until Regions on Monday night, I plan to be at that game...anyone care to join me? /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />
  19. The final for 9AAA was hard fought tonight by both Smyrna and Wilson Central. Smyrna came out victorious 3-2 (25-21, 21-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-11) Both teams played with everything they had and the atmosphere in the gym was electrifying. Congrats to both teams. Smyrna will take on Clarksville at 4pm on Monday. WC takes on Rossview at 5:30. Games will be at Smyrna HS.
  20. 9AAA Semi-Finals were held at Smyrna HS tonight... #1 Smyrna over powered #4 Mt. Juliet in a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-14, 25-14) #2 Wilson Central started out slow but prevailed over LaVergne 3-1 (20-25, 29-27, 26-24, 25-17) Tomorrow night's final match between Smyrna and Wilson Central starts at 6:00pm. All District and All Tournament honors will be announced at that time. The Region 5 tournament will also be held at Smyrna HS on Monday, October 15, time to be announced.
  21. According to TSSAA rules, fans cannot call out names or numbers, nor make offensive comments about players. Sideout is correct, your floor captain should approach the official and it WILL be taken care of. We've had a couple of incidents like this at some away games, and the official has always told the captain of the opposing team to tell their coach to get the fans under control -- this includes standing on the sidelines instead of in the stands. One time the boys were on the track above the gym--behind our bench--they were told to move or leave. A team complained about our fans at a game and our coach told the boys what they could and could not do/say and we haven't had a problem since--they keep on attending and cheering loudly but appropriately. Let's encourage student fans.
  22. You know, we've heard the same comments made about some of our fans...we have a great group of boys, classmates of the players, that attend our home games and local matches to cheer the girls on. Unless they are using noisemakers, calling out girls' names or numbers, or making inappropriate (i.e. sexual) comments then leave 'em alone. They chant, cheer and generally have a good time while pumping up the players they came to support. You wouldn't stop cheering at a football game or basketball game would you? This is HIGH SCHOOL sports, who better to support the team than HIGH SCHOOL students. This is supposed to be for THEM, not for us. I just think you need to chill and let the boys have their fun, they may be annoying but they are not breaking any rules. Every volleyball team should be so lucky to have loud and loyal fans.
  23. District 9AAA starts tonight at Smyrna HS. Originally scheduled to be held at Wilson Central, the gym floor needed to be torn up because of water damage from recent construction -- so the tournament has moved to Smyrna. Monday, 4pm #2 Wilson Central vs. #7 Beech -- Winner: WC (25-15, 25-11, 25-10) Monday, 5:30pm #3 Lavergne vs. #6 Hendersonville -- Winner: Lavergne Monday, 7:00pm #4 Mt Juliet vs. #5 Gallatin -- Winner: Mt. Juliet #1 Smyrna gets a bye Tuesday, 5:00pm #1 Smyrna vs. #4 Mt. Juliet Tuesday, 6:30pm #3 Lavergne vs. #2 Wilson Central Wednesday, 6:00pm District Finals The coaches agreed to a 3rd night to hold finals this year, in part, due to the WC/MJ semi-final match last year that went 2.5 hours and WC had to turn around and play #1 Lavergne immediately. Not only was a late night (the match didn't start until around 8:30) but the players were physically and emotionally exhausted after the 5-game marathon. We are going to try this and see how it works. A couple of drawbacks however, a third night of spectators paying $5 admission will deter some AND will the losing teams attend for the announcement of all tournament and all district honors on the 3rd night? Since this was agreed upon by all the coaches, maybe some arrangements have been made.
  24. I, too, enjoyed visiting everybody. KCDaddy, your daughter was playing really well this weekend and congrats to her on her Senior season. It was nice to meet you. As always, Pageman did an amazing job keeping up with everything going on and BB -- well, you ARE the master prognosticator! (BTW, congrats on Sunday's win /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> too. ) Good luck to everyone as we head into Districts this week. We will be in Smyrna tonight to play Beech at 4pm. I will post the 9AAA brackets separately.
  25. Well it seems the schedule you originally had for Pool 4 at Siegel was correct and the two you referenced (mine and posted) were incorrect. WC did, in fact, play Stone Memorial last night in Pool 4 at Siegel. We lost to Riverdale 2-1 (25-22, 24-26, 16-14), beat Stone Memorial 2-0 and lost to Independence 2-0. Onward and upward /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
