  1. ballfanwm, you are definitely right that scott should be picked before all those other people, but that's not the way it works. every school gets at least one pick. 1st place (stown and pc) get 4 each, 3rd gets 3, 4th gets 2. maybe i should have picked scott ahead of h. lovett. it's just that haley played really good both times i saw them this year. and have you seen scott ball on the softball field? she is awesome! she and the freshman from ca are the two best in the district easily.
  2. weatherly, pc edney, pc leegan, pc rhodes, pc b. lovett, stown franks, stown long, stown h. lovett, stown greer, cwood brewer, cwood andrews, cwood mcdonald, wc staggs, wc totty, sf cooper, mt.p knox, ca pevahouse, fhs short-haired post from zion ??? from hampshire, #13 i guess
  3. i am sure willard will get coach of the year. lee probably lost any votes he would have gotten when he tried to move the riverside game so weatherly could play against cwood. i may be wrong, but i also know how people in this district think...
  4. with the season winding down, just wondering what everyone's thoughts were about this year's mvp. i'd say it has to be between b. lovett of stown or edney or weatherly from pc. any arguments? how do you think the vote will go down?
  5. MP was not the 2nd seed in the district tournament last year. They were the 4th seed who managed to get the District Player of the Year and the Coach of the Year with the 4 seed. Now I'm not saying Jamarcus and Coach Boyd were not deserving, because both are very good at what they do. I just wish someone would give credit where credit is due to Coach Franks. WC won the district last year and he got 0 votes for Coach of the Year--guess everyone was mad about Bryant moving to WC so they decide not to vote for him? What everyone forgets is how WC upset #2 in the state Culleoka in the Region the year before without Bryant in Franks' first year. The 'Cats were gonna be tough whether Bryant came or not--he just added another dimension to the already talented squad. And MP didn't lose in the semi's to the region champs b/c WC put MP out of the region at MP last year and then went on to lose to S'town in the region champ. MP finished 4th in the season and 3rd in the district tournament. It should be interesting to see how the vote for Player of the Year and Coach of the Year goes next Saturday the 12th when the district meeting is held at MP. Who knows how the coaches will vote this year????????
  6. Guess we'll chalk it up to a bad night by the lady panthers since the lady cats "are down from previous years and should have lost by at least 15 points." 60-32 final score, WCHS Lady Cats.
  7. i just want to say that the lady at the upstairs entry where the non-playing teams go in is definitely earning her money. i have been attending the state tourney for over 10 years now as both a player and now a coach, and she is definitely not letting ANYONE get through that gate that isn't supposed to. she double checks the typed list that you bring with you of your players and coaches. the other day when i told her my name she said, "well, i don't see it on here," in a rather hastily manner so i said look under the coaches. of course there was my name and she looked so upset that my name was on that list. i mean, is she getting a commission for everyone she turns away? she actually told our guys team last year that one of the players was not getting in b/c he was too short and wasn't in high school when he actually was. just wondering if anyone else had experienced the same thing???
  8. this is one thread where i agree with ptguard12. 12a could possibly sweep all 4 games--on both sides. and by the way, with the exception of Moore Co., who else has made it past the 1st round from 11a. no one last year. i don't know about the year before. and only one team from the boys side made it past the 1st round last year as well. by the way, ptguard 12, you are very knowledgeable about the game and 12a. any clue who you are? just wondering if i knew you? 12a all the way baby...
  9. both stown and pc are very good teams and very well coached. good luck to them both. this will be the first dist. tourney championship in a long time for either squad as Wayne Co. has won the last 10 consecutive dist. tourneys. before this year, wc's last dist. tourney loss was in 1993 when they were undefeated and upset by the stown eaglettes in the finals. once again, good luck to both teams. hope it is as great a game as everyone is expecting!

    The "QUAD"

do all bats have to have the ASA 2004 stamp on them to be legal this season? or are the worth wicked bats with ASA 2000 legal? please advise...
  11. now that the reg. season is down to the last couple of weeks, who are your picks for a TOP 10 All Dist. 12A team? I know that more people than that actually make it, but try to limit it to just 10. Also list your MVP. both the boys and girls mvp race is more wide open than i can ever remember it. justin bryant, wc j. d. byrd, wc ashton white, stown cody james, stown jemarcus webster, mp brett jackson, pc luis arroyane?, pc nick prater, fh ryan bumphus, fh cameron sims, sf *jerrad calton, cwood (injured for the 2nd half of the season--would have made it otherwise) i believe the mvp votes will be split between bryant, white, and jackson. now let me hear your disagreements with my picks!
  12. coach hughes always gets the most out of his players. and, he's one of the classiest guys in 12a, along with his boys' coach derek boyd. it's definitely tough to find a better pair than those two.
  13. which player in 12-a is the best hustler? you know, someone that sparks the team and gets the crowd into the game with their play? they may not score 6 points a game, but get all kinds of loose balls, offensive rebounds, charges, and such. my vote goes to charlie mosley from wayne co--one of the most underrated players in the district. anybody else want to comment?
  14. Two of Wayne County's former players had their jerseys retired last night at ceremonies between the girls' and boys' games vs. Collinwood. Both players had exceptional high school careers and led their team to the 2001 State Championship. They were both on hand last night for this special ceremony. Molly York's #43 was retired (TN Tech/Union) and Erica Davenport's #5 was retired (Belmont). There is no doubt that both of these ladies were very deserving of this honor. Congrats girls!
  15. hey nat lady cats looked sharp in this one. it was 30-23 wc at the half & the lady cats went on a 10-1 run to start the second half. lady cats were up by 27 with 3:00 remaining. had h'shire not left cothran and hickman in until the final buzzer it would have been more, but the final margin was about 20. moore for h'shire looked good as she netted 18 and fouled out with 7:00 remaining. i think she only missed one or two shots all night. mcnutt got 19 for wc and mcdonald got 15. davenport dished 8 assists and 9 points to go along with 6 steals. hammack got 10 as well. talk to ya later...
  16. WITHOUT A DOUBT! however, if you have seen their baseball and softball complexes, they are better than a lot of colleges. maybe it's time to build a new gym guys!
  17. peabody definitely has the talent to repeat, but you never know. i mean, i don't know if it has anything to do with the coaching change or not, but they looked--and acted--like a completely different team at summer camp. did anyone else notice it? last year they seemed very humble. now they are not. they were very cocky (i guess winning the state will do that to you) and tried to verbally intimidate the other teams--which they were successful at. they were rude to the officials and argued with almost every call. i think the refs will not let them be as aggressive on their press this year just b/c of the way they act. maybe they will not act like this during the season. i hope not. if they do, they will be their own worst enemy. if they don't, they have a great chance of repeating.
  18. wildcats took the 8a-aa crown yesterday at henry horton state park. jd byrd was low medalist with a 75 in very windy conditions, while brenton berlin was 2nd with a 76. andy beckham was 5th with an 81, and christopher lynch was 7th with an 83. way to go cats! good luck next week in the region tourney!
  19. just wondering if any of you have seen j.d. (jon david) byrd play this year. he is a senior averaging 35.3 per 9 holes with a high of 37 and a low of 33. many of his matches have been at the tough bear trace at ross creek landing in clifton. if you want a quality golfer as well as a quality person, check out jd. he plays for wayne county high school where he led the wildcats to a top 5 finish in the state last year. the wildcats were the top-finishing public school in the small school class. his dad, the school's golf coach, is david byrd (coach of the tradition-rich wayne co. lady cat basketball team). the wildcats are rolling right along this year also. they have only lost one match all season and have since avenged it twice. senior brenton berlin is also playing some good golf for the wildcats as he has shot under par several times. any colleges needing some consistent golfers, you need to go after j.d. and brenton. hopefully you can check them out at the state tourney in a few weeks...good luck wildcats!
  20. district 12a all tourney team cwood: chelsea mcfall and jordan sherrill wc: amber stricklin, andrea warren, and brooke staggs ca: courtney pope, heidi buchholz, tara thompson, and heather knox stown: heather lanier, mindy wyrick, brooke kelley, and MVP becky scollard district 12a all season team sf: jade liggett fh: jasmine martin zc: courtney cothran pc: jessica trull and leigh ann haynes mp: sharnreka akins and whitney scharrer wc: chassidy gipson, amy beavers, and andrea warren cw: taryn dixon, ragan greer, and nycole hensley stown: becky scollard, mindy wyrick, and brooke kelley ca: candis littrell, tara thompson, heather knox, rachel brown, and jennifer kerr mvp: heather lanier of stown
  21. way to go mac! hope college is all you've dreamed of. good luck next year at bethel and this summer as you play with your "old" buddies on the softball field (#19). sorry you can't have 34--hahahahahaha just kidding. seriously, congrats on the scholarship. i know daddy mac and mama mac are very proud of their beby.
  22. chassidy gipson, junior infielder for wayne county, has great hand-eye coordination. she did not strike out ANY during her soph. season in 87 plate appearances. so far this season, she has 12 doubles in 12 games and has still not struck out through about 30 at bats. pretty impressive!
  23. we don't get money from bball or football. we raise our own. we sold halloween insurance (if your yard got rolled on 10/31, and you prepaid insurance of $10, we cleaned it). we made about $550. then we sold ads for the basketball program and put it together. we made almost $3000. then we had a krispy kreme doughnut sale where we made over $1000 in one day. since the girls worked so hard, we used the money for new uniforms, sliding shorts, sliding pads, and visors for each player. we bought 2 new bats, a helmet bag, some pitching machine balls, and other misc. equipment. of course we will have to buy game balls and pay umpires as well. we charge $2 at the gate to offset the cost of the umpires which is about $80 per game.
  24. oh yeah, congrats to coach sessions on her 800th victory. that's awesome! she truly is a class act as well as her players.
  25. this has the potential to be a great game, but wc's seniors have gotta step it up a notch. if that happens, look for a great game from the lady cats. they are definitely due. good job by the underclassmen last night (davenport, mcnutt, mcdonald). y'all made some big plays down the stretch. now that the pressure's off of reaching substate, relax and play ball like you know how!
