  1. All hearsake, but isnt that what message boards are for? I heard that Coach Duncan expected the job to be all but his, but when told he would have to go through the interview process (Which was delayed to the start of the new year) he refused and bolted to MJHS. Great Coach and Great Man who I wish nothing but the BEST of luck too! Only two canadiates I have heard is Coach Bever (Portland Asst) and Coach Howell (Sp?) who is the Portland Middle School Coach. I'm sure both of these guys would love the opportunity, but also expect a lot of outside attention in the coming weeks. Why wouldn't there be? Great facilities, Great town, and a load of support.

    Portland

Talent comes and goes in a small towns. We have several returning players who are talented, but the new coach has the facilities and fan support second to none. As far as the former staff, wish them all the best at Mt Juliet High School. Hope they continue to win (With the exception of One or Possibily Two games ayear). They accomplished a lot in Portland and it was time to begin a new journey in their professions! MJHS has a class act and if they take to the system, they will be SUUCESSFUL. Same is true for us.... the new coach will be EXPECTED to keep the winning tradition!
  3. Pee300.... You have no busisness being in the locker room, and with respect to the Panther Program, I suugest you give up on this little show you are putting on. People I assure everyone here that Pee300 doesn't have the heart to wear a Purple jersey! Maybe he is in the locker room, who knows, but he isn't a Portland Panther. Coach Perry doesn't even alow his players to get on the site, sneak on if you can, but it will bite you in the butt later!
  4. White House scores with .09 to go in the half. Halftime score 21-7 White House
  5. I wouldn't diagree with Portland winning, or not winning, but I wish I had a bookie to bet on you saying Cory wouldn't score 30 points. I would probably empty my savings account... my opinion for what it's worth!
  6. I was a ref for the UTC camp last year, and it is 2nd to none in the state. The dorms are incredibile, they are actually 3 bedroom apartments. I highly suggest going to this camp. Not only will your players have a great time and play stiff competition.... Lebo and Staff hold "Pass the Pen" nights for the coaches with free food and a lot of fun. Ran basically the same way they ran the camps at TTU, but a step up with the UTC campus. [Edited by Brian4UT on 4-25-03 4:50P]
  7. What do you Lipscomb fans think about this? I know you guys appreciate everything he has done the last 13 years. 500 wins and 80 losses is impressssssive.
  8. I felt Portland came out ready to play, Brewer and Fergerson led the way. Poor scouting from Howard's coaching staff! They shouldn't have waited so late to throw the press at the Panthers. Portland's guards played a GREAT first quater and IMO it was downhill from there. Deandre had 18pts (Probably a season high), but he had 9 turnovers to 2 assist. Smith stayed in foul trouble, but luckily the twin towers came ready to play. Props goes out to Brewer and Fergerson. John I know you will get some attention now, Tech is willing to offer a walk on, plus I'm sure you can get some academic $$$. It all depends on what you want... I'm sure many DII/NAIA schools will offer you a full ride, so the ball is in your court. Best of luck with your decision, and with the tournament games. Nice to see Kentucky's Assisstant, Buzz, and Stallings in the crowd to watch Portland's Corey Brewer drop 35 points.
  9. I agree with everyone, Portland must beat Howard before they advance anywhere, but at the same time Giles County has a game or two to win also:)

Quit talking about enrollment! If they are classified AA than they must have that number of students to choose their talent from. It's not a matter of playing down, it's a matter of playing where they are suppose to play! Quit hatin' on someone else's success! By the way, Go Portland:)
  11. I personally don't think Cookeville would be a good location, but they do have enough hotels to accomodate as many fans as the TSSAA could bring to town. I think MTSU is the best spot to hold the tournament. However, who cares what the fans think because TSSAA will do whatever they want.
  12. By the way, Go Portland... Beat LA!
  13. John- Calm down bud! I didn't start this thread and only saying what I hear from people who COULD be recruiting you. I have told them nothing, but good things about you! Just continue to work hard on and off the court and the recruiting process will pick up in the future. Good luck in Sparta! BRIAN [Edited by Brian4UT on 3-4-03 7:14A]
  14. Im not sure about the guy at Hume Fogg, but the guy for Lipscomb (Stevens) is tough. I believe he will make a good player somewhere, but I'm not sure if Lipscomb University is recruiting him, or not.
  15. GoMab- will your uncle recruit him?
  16. CoachJG- I assure you John can play for you:) Call your old boss from TTGU and he can give you some down low on John. UTC has been at practice several times to watch Corey and I talked to Shulman about John. I bet Coach Shulman will say some good things about him. Contact Coach Kington at 615-325-5304. Is Hardin headed to to you all's coaching staff?
  17. Portland Coach Tris Kington: ˜John (Ferguson) goes to war every game, and tonight he went up against a 6-6, 250-pound player. He has always done everything we asked of him,˜ Kington pointed out. ˜He˜s not being heavily recruited and someone is missing the boat with him." "Corey (Brewer) is a great player and we have two super high school players on the team. Thank God everyone knows their role and play unselfish." Ferguson, the tourney˜s Most Valuable Player, finished with 22 points
  18. I'm not trying to start rumors here! I know how good John is, and I HOPE he continues his basketball playing days after high school. I'm just telling what I have heard from more than one reliable source. It may not be any truth at all to it, but I have heard from two college coaches. Take it for what it's worth! Good luck Portland in the regions. I will be cheering for you all!
  19. I have put words in at many small D-1 schools for John, but a lot of them have heard he wasn't 100 percent interested in playing college basketball. Something about he would only play if his dad made him, etc. I don't know the true facts, but I know that's why at least 1 OVC school and one Top 25 Division 2 school is staying away. They are scared he won't give 100%. The talent is there! He's tough and could make a great college basketball player. I agree with Ladd. I feel Belmont would be a great fit for him. Allows him to stay close to home, receive a good education, and play basketball all at the same time.
  20. It wouldn't surprise me to see York get beat in the 1st round! If they happen to win that one, Lipscomb outs them in Round 2. I say Portland/Lipscomb in finals. Lipscomb wins, Portland travels.
  21. Hey GoMab.. you should know UTC is hard after him:) Also, I was home for x-mas break and Billy Donovan was in the stands to watch him. Must be nice to have the FL budget (He flew into Portland's airport)
  22. Well stated, and fair enough! That's why I love this board because we all can post how we feel/think. Everybody has different opinions, and like I said as long as Lipscomb is comfortable with him what else matters? No agruments here..
  23. "Just think of what would have happened if they hadn't stalled." I can think of a lot of things that "Could Have" happened. Portland could have came back and won the game. Lipscomb "Could Have" won by over a hundred. But we will never know because Lipscomb will "Never" not run the stall offense, It's the only play Roller knows. I would have thought he could have learned more from Coach Meyer... [Edited by Brian4UT on 1-16-03 12:11A]
  24. Hey Big Guy... His brother Jason Rogan is playing for the University of Tennessee Chattanooga Mocs program where he is making a major impact as a starter and averaging around 15pts per contest. The Mocs are 13-3 (4-0 in Southern Conference.) Back to Corey... He does have a lot of skills to improve on, but at the same time he has a WHOLE another year of high school basketball to improve them. Let's not forget he is ONLY a JUNIOR. I had the opportunity to play with his brother and I believe Corey will be a better player before it's said and done. It's tough for him and Fergerson (Portland's other big kid) to show how good they really are because of Portland's lack of a true guard. If you have the opportunity to watch Corey play AAU ball it will allow you to understand why the scouts from FL was in the stands at the Lipscomb and other games this year to watch him play. He is a different player when you surround him with talent. If his grades allow him he will be a definite major division one propspect, and I also have a little college experience:) And since this is a Portland-Lipscomb thread- I am still impressed with the Stephens guy from Lipscomb. Is he a Senior? Height? Chances he will continue his college playing days at Lipscomb? He has potential to further his basketball days after DLHS...
