  1. Huntingdon usally has 80-90 students per grade, so the enrollment figures are correct. You are correct, they should be great this year. But you are incorrect in saying that they are not as good as they used to be. 1966, was a great football year for Huntingdon, but the 60's can not touch the Mansfield era. He has more playoff victories than any other coach in HHS history. His team has competed for the championship just about every year. McKenzie has improved since the 80s & early 90's. We used to beat them like dogs, but now it is a game. I think every year Huntingdon must beat Milan, not the rebels, to go to the blue cross bowl. I forget, how many times has McKenzie been to Nashville or Murf???
  2. In the west - Huntingdon vs. Bruceton. Very big game. Martin Westview vs. Union City East - Fulton vs. AE and Seymour vs. GP
  3. You may some great points, but some would not fly. There was a school of the east coast (don't remember which) that taught only the skills needed for the job. By this I mean they did not teach Lit or Music, example, to future plumers. They only taught skills needed for the job. The students were very knowledgeable in their line of work, but stupid in society. That did not work out. This is why we have to take all classes. Also it's hard to identify students coming out of primary school. A child may be living with an abusive parent during K-3 and have failing grades, leaves the parent in 4th grade and gets the highest grades possible. Although I do agree that this would be ideal to do, it's not possible. I can remember when that went to tech or college path, there was arguments over 9th grade being to soon for a child to decide. As far as mainstreaming the lower students, that is why we are the greatest country on earth. We don't want to leave any child behind and we want all children to be able to socialize with others. I do agree that this hurts the higher level students, because the teachers have to teach on a lower level. We are kinda in a win/lose situation.
  4. UTM will take Dickey. They had Bobby Bowden's grandson this past season, and he really sux. Tried to run the option 7yds deep in the backfield and his arm is weak. But as long as the kid has a good name, UTM will take him, they don't plan to win anytime soon.
  5. Carter has a good group of guys. Some are real athletes, some are not (like most HS). I love the community and it's great how they support the team. BUT, Carter is not a good football team. They have not been for awhile, and will not be for awhile. They will be a 2-8, 3-7, 4-6 for years to come. Central always gets Carter's great players, how can you expect Carter to win??
  6. Don't blame the K-8 teachers. I teach middle school 6-8, and we do all we can with what we have. HS wants to blame middle, middle wants to blame k-5, and the college wants to blame HS. Kids are going to college and they have to take remedial classes for 2 years. I have seen hundreds of kids have failing grades, but get socially promoted to the next grade. I know at my school we can not give a grade lower than a 60, no matter what the kid makes. I don't know where it starts, but I can assure you that most K-8 teachers are as qualified as HS. It should be a community effort, with the student, parents, and teachers helping each other. I'm sure almost all teachers will meet the Pres qualifications by 2005, somehow someway
  7. Billygoat, just how big a boy are you???
  8. I think if the teacher holds an upper level degree, then they are ok. By this I mean Master, EDS, or Doc. They are quailifed with the degree and they do not have to take a test, that's how I understood it.
  9. I was a teacher at a feeder school for fulton and also coached at fulton for a few years. I got to see first hand how central deals with "out of zone players". They did not look at the zone, they looked at the kid. I have since moved to coach in west tn, so I don't know about now, but I'm sure it has not changed much. They were slapped on the hand for it not long ago.
  10. Fulton and AE always produces some quality WR, next year will be the same. Just don't know who.
