  1. Gaines Cox. The athletic directors best friend. No surprise here. Good ole boy system at its best.
  2. This is just plain ignorant. I am on the staff of a AA team who played a A team with an enrollment of less than 40 students earlier this year. It was clear from the time the two teams left the locker room which team was more talented. The A team had only five girls dressed out for the contest. Not one of them even sported basketball shoes. The score could have EASILY been 125-0. No doubt about it. The starters started the game, pressed the first 8 possessions, and then exited the game. The rest of the game, a zone defense was played and players were told not to run in transition, instead work on the execution of half-court offenses, looking to score off of each option available in the offense, not scoring on the same option on back to back possessions. Starters played the first minute of each quarter and then the bench was cleared. The score was kept as respectable as possible at 45-9. This is a case where, like I said, the score could have easily been 125-0, but the coach kept it respectable. The student-athletes on the winning team learned to play with character and respect the game and their opponents. The coach on the losing team, and his players, thanked both the players and coaches time and time again after the game for keeping it respectable. So, yes. It CAN be done. And it IS in the hands of the coach. If a coach doesn't have enough control over a team to tell them not to shoot in transition, not to press, not to steal passes in the passing lanes, then he or she has a serious problem in their program. High school basketball is not all about wins and losses, or getting to the century mark. It's about teaching young ladies and men life-long lessons and instilling in them good values, character, and respect for each other, opponents, and the game of basketball itself.
  3. I agree. Science Hill is just plain good. IMAC teams need to wake up and smell the coffee. Science Hill's second five would compete (AND probably WIN) the IMAC title, this year and next. No questions about it. Not taking anything away from East, they have had a great year and have a great shot at Maryville Saturday but there's no doubt that Science Hill is several notches above the rest of East Tennessee. Good luck to both teams on Saturday. The Boro will be fun this year.
  4. There is absolutely no truth to that rumor at this time.
  5. ouch. hopefully he'll take it with him along with his strong stand on blocking gatlinburg pittman and pigeon forge from hosting the district tournament as well as blocking their players from being named mvp of the district.
  6. PF lost by 8. Missed 25 free throws.
  7. Amen to that! The one and only thing I dont miss about high school basketball. =)
  8. 1. Claiborne (Will Probably Run The Table) 2. Gatlinburg Pittman (7th in 2AA? A Bit Overrated But Usually Find A Way To Win, Mark Of A Good Team) 3. Pigeon Forge (Improved A Great Deal Since The Beginning Of The Season. Johnson Always Has Them Ready Come Tourney Time as GP & Claiborne Found Out Last Year) 3. Rutledge (Greatly Improved From Last Year, Will Surprise Some People Come Tourney Time, Had GP Beat Until An Errant Foul With No Time On Clock) 4. Cumberland Gap (Could Surprise People Come Tourney Time, Weaver HAS To Be In The Game For Them To Be Successful) 5. Union County
  9. For Pigeon Forge to win, Woodrick is going to have to start looking for his shot early and more often. He scored at will when Pigeon Forge got behind late. Everyone knows he can pass and get others involved but wins are more impressive than assists and triple doubles. When Cave, Hafeez, and Nichols arent hitting the 3, Woodrick has to take over.
  10. Great time for PF to lose going into the showdown with Claiborne on Friday night. Coach Wright will no doubt have them ready to play. The Union upset just shows how tight the district is really becoming. Should be some fun come tournament time. Looks like anyone can beat anyone on any given night. PF and Claiborne obviously. Union and GP both have big wins. Really impressed GP was able to take Claiborne to overtime with the chance to win. They are very well coached. & Gap is in there as well after hangin in tight with PF. It's all up for grabs. And if Mcbee gets hot it could be a six team race. It's gonna be fun boys.
  11. Kev, forget those guys. They play on the team and are just talkin from a very biased friend stand point. I'm just sitting here wondering what credentials you think McBee has that makes him the best player in the district. Ok, so he gets a Box and One thrown at him as a sophomore. Are you telling me that Woodrick and Estes dont? And whether he's a sophomore or not doesnt matter. That doesnt make him a better player and doesnt give him "extra credit" just because he's young. This is the best overall player. Who cares what grade they are in. And like I said earlier, how can you say that he is "far and away the most talented player in the district" when he cant at this point even take over a game. (or he chooses not to so far this year vs. district competition) talent means nothing when you dont utilize it. to be a great player you have to have the mentality as well. and boys from pf, we all know who you are and your embarassing yourselves on here whether you know it or not. just continue to play ball and let your game do the talking.
  12. wow kev. never thought you were this biased. far and away the most talented player in the district? there is no doubt that mcbee is a very talented player and he can take over a game (if we wants) but i just dont think he has that "go to player" mentaility that he needs to have right now. and i would put him up against estes or woodrick any day. he layed down against gatlinburg pittman at rutledge. i dont know if he was sick or just hasnt stepped into his role as "super star" but i was much more impressed with him as a freshman than this year. as for no one believing woodrick is the best player in the disrtict, just wait until you see him play and he picks apart your defense and dismantles your offense. he has the best court vision of any high school player i have ever seen. no he didnt stand out as much last year but pigeon forge's offense and deffense goes as he goes this year. even if you dont believe the triple double numbers are legit, wins dont lie. and when the team goes through you and you're 11-0, you're doing something right. although i cant help but root for the tigers, it's gonna be a good year in 2AA and anyone can beat anyone on any given night. the tournament should be fun!
  13. I wouldnt go so far as to say GP is definitely the best team in District 2AA. They are VERY beatable. They arent even the best team in 2AA...until they prove themselves. They lost alot off of last years team and it shows. The press isn't near as strong and they lost quite a bit of outside shooting with McCarter and Hardy gone; not to mention Hardy's ability to take the ball to the basket and her floor visibility.
  14. Couldnt agree with you more. This is not new news to teams that have been playing Seymour for years. Although the referees should be able to do something about this on the floor I think all the fault should lie with Coach Moore and the young ladys parents. There is no excuse for the "cheap shots" and play of this nature. She is a very good high school basketball player and should realize that when college coaches see this kind of stuff it tends to turn them off towards a player because it shows the kind of character and integrity a player has. Play hard and play to win, but don't play dirty.
  15. Pigeon Forge gets a big win in overtime tonight (69-65) at Alcoa to move to 10-0 on the season.

    how?

how do you add a signee?
  17. GP's new coach is Adrian Propst. I agree with the rest of you with the top three being Rutledge, Union, and PF. GP could surprise some people though late in the season behind Junior Pitcher Jessie Ogle who has only improved from last season. Pigeon Forge beat Rutledge 8-2 last week in a scrimmage and lost to Seymour 1-0 on a throwing error and also beat Cumberland Gap.
  18. sounds like the baseball team needs to worry about practicing..not about coacht. you guys are the only people on here from seymour. maybe u guys could win a substate game if you'd stay off the dang computer. oh wait, tyler cannon DID own you guys. oh ya, nora ramsey has never talked trash in her life and never said that about britt. thats called motivation from a coach. they all do it. grow up fellas
  19. Pigeon Forge played man the entire game last time. With the exception of out of bounds under the goal.
  20. From the looks of things the winner tonight will have a better shot at the boro. AE is very tough. PF did beat Seymour at Seymour the last game of the regular season by 9.
  21. Sorry, but the "T" didnt cost Betsy the game, it was the numerous turnovers throughout the game because of GP's pressure. Congrats on a GREAT season!
  22. I'll have to take GP tomorrow night. With their pressure in your face defense, if South Greene doesnt handle the ball well then it might not be close. Be ready to see some very quick guards who pride themselves on defense, which creates most of their offense. With friends on both sides, I hate to say it but I'll say GP by 10. Don't know anything about Unicoi but because of the seeding I'll take them in a close one. If Cumberland Gap wants to win Vannoy will have to bring her "A" game which we all know she does in big games. Should be an exciting night! Good Luck to all 4 teams!
