  1. Just to clarify, Franklin has won the last three times at Brentwood, not four... Brentwood won both times in 2002 (first at Franklin, second at Brentwood), Franklin won twice in '03 (both at Brentwood) and the two split last year (Brentwood wins at Franklin, Franklin wins at Brentwood) Since 1997, Brentwood leads the series 7-4... I know Brentwood was bad back before that, but our records are difficult to access now... does anyone know how many times they played in the 80s and early 90s? And did Franklin win all those?
  2. I won't dwell on this too much here, because I'll be repeating the same thing later this week... I agree with what some of you guys say that BA has the experience here and will probably win... Ravenwood is super talented and will be right there with Franklin for the region title, but this game in the grand scheme of things is one of those "big ratings/big gate" kind of games... same as it was when Brentwood played them in 01-02... Don't get me wrong, I think Ravenwood has a chance to win, but if there's one thing I've learned about Carlton Flatt over the years, it is that the man puts forth a little extra effort when a game is special... MBA, Brentwood, Centennial... the Clinic Bowl... well, we won't go there... anyway, he just seems very fired up for this game, and you can bet he'll have his guys ready... And as much as I would love for Ravenwood to win and end that BA winning streak, I just don't see it happening... the whole, "We're playing against BA" factor will come into play before it's over... I can almost guarantee it... We'll see, though... it should certainly be exciting... I'm looking forward to seeing how Ravenwood handles being the fox with the target on its back this season... if they lose this game it's not such a big deal... if they lose next week, the rest of the season will be a LONG road...
  3. This doesn't have anything to do with this topic... I was just scanning the board to see what everyone thought of the games last night... I see that you like our little dig at Centennial, Rebel... and from what I've seen, I don't think that's gonna change this year, either... And just for the record, I'm in total agreement that Region 6 is, top to bottom, one of the most competitive and consistent in the state for 5A... a VERY close second would be Region 5 with Hendersonville, Beech, Gallatin, et al... Region 4 is Riverdale, Smyrna and then everyone else... sometimes Oakland, but rarely...
  4. PLEEEEEAAASSEEE send in your stories... Saturday is designed to be a 2004 "commemorative edition" type thing... we want it to be very memorable for everyone involved... dodyer@tennessean.com (Doug Dyer), lnelson@tennessean.com (Lauren Nelson) or dostewart@tennessean.com (Donovan Stewart) PS... so far we have one submission... I know there were at least 6,000 on Franklin's side Saturday night... please help us...
  5. Rebel... may need your help in a pet project we're working on for next week... provided some people don't see Sunday's Williamson A.M.... send me some e-mail and I can tell you more...
  6. Read Williamson A.M. tomorrow for some good pregame breakdowns... including a special story about the progression of Franklin football over the last decade and a half... Williamson A.M.
  7. Kinda like Brentwood Academy, I guess... I think it's sad when more success equals less enthusiasm...
  8. No matter how many people from Williamson County come Saturday, it will definitely be more than Riverdale... over the last four years, I have been disappointed in the turnout for Riverdale's fans... 2002 was the worst... Brentwood outnumbered the Riverdale fans by almost 2-to-1... if I was a Riverdale player, I would hope for better support from my fanbase... let's hope those Murfreesboro people show it this Saturday... should make for a great atmosphere...
  9. Some of us couldn't agree more... http://www.tennessean.com/williamsonam/spo...ent_ID=61883100
  10. Daniel Becker is Ravenwood's stud middle linebacker... No. 32... make sure you remember his name... just about every team has had trouble blocking him... he's just a junior, so we'll be calling it for another year...
  11. Basically all non-teachers... (e.g. teachers' aides, bookkeepers, librarians, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, etc.)... will not be able to participate in extracurricular activities as a sponsor because it is above and beyond the normal 40 hours they spend at their "normal" job... not sure why this doesn't apply to teachers, unless it's because they are salaried... and this does not just apply to sports... all extracurricular activities... Fairview was hit the hardest, we heard... but several other schools felt the effects... including a couple biggies... keep watching The Tennessean and Williamson A.M. online for more in the next few days...
  12. This is off-topic for this thread, but appropriate... read Friday's Williamson A.M. section in The Tennessean for some great feature material on Coach Flatt and his 32-year run at BA and how he has become the winningest (after tomorrow night) coach in Tennessee history. Some interesting facts and statistics about his career, along with some of the behind-the-scenes stories from BA. All criticism of Coach Flatt aside, this is a tremendous accomplishment for a coach that has had to endure a lot of scrutiny and still found time to win nine state titles and more than 300 games in 32 years... an average of more than 10 per year... pretty good in my book... This is a shameless plug, but check it out tomorrow... Log onto: www.tennessean.com/williamsonam
  13. Tyler Sinclair likely done for the season with I think a knee injury... Welch is now playing both ways and was pretty effective against Ravenwood Friday night...
  14. Some food for thought... Franklin is 5-0 Wins over: -Lincoln Co. (4-2), which has beaten Blackman (1-4), Warren Co. (0-6), Franklin Co. (5-1) and Oakland (1-4) -Columbia (3-3), which has beaten Lawrence Co. (3-3), Siegel (1-4) and Hickman Co. (1-5) -Henry Co. (2-3), which has beaten Kenwood (1-4) and McGavock (1-4) -Oakland (1-4), which has beaten La Vergne (1-5) -Clarksville (1-4), which has beaten Rossview (0-5) Centennial is 3-2 Wins Over: -BGA (0-5) -Ravenwood (3-2), which has beaten John Paul II (3-3), Page (4-2) and La Vergne (1-5) -Pearl-Cohn (2-3), which has beaten Hillsboro (2-3) and Mt. Juliet (1-4) Losses To: -Brentwood Acad. (3-2), which has beaten Oakland (1-4) and Independence (0-1) -Brentwood (4-1), which has beaten Father Ryan (0-6), Clarksville (1-4) and Blackman (1-4) In breaking that down, it shows that both teams have played maybe one or two quality opponents... Franklin's most legitimate win came against an average Lincoln County team that could be good come season's end. Two of Centennial's first three games were against quality opponents, but in the Cougars' first big test, against Brentwood, they failed miserably. Both coaches agreed this would be the toughest game so far for each of them. But I just can't agree with anyone who says these first five games for Franklin have told anything about what they can be. For all the offense the Rebels have put up and the points they've scored, it hasn't really PROVEN anything. The only thing these games have proven is their defense is not quite as solid as some thought, other than Steven Hotard the omnipresent linebacker. He is by far the most consistent player on the field. The first five will not be as important as the next three. THERE is the proving ground. Centennial, Brentwood and Ravenwood all in a row. So if Franklin goes 3-0 in those three games, only then the media people will stop saying the Rebels are "overachieving." And its no secret Centennial has not performed up to expectations. If the Cougars can't beat Franklin this time, it's tough to say what they really are capable of this year.
  15. I'm not getting into this debate, mind you... but let me just say that Brentwood's blowout against Blackman is not quite as impressive as some might think... Blackman is one-dimensional and is lacking in any kind of passing game... if you stop the running game, you stop the Blaze... the Bruins' four interceptions were legit, but most of the balls were underthrown... basically jump balls that the Brentwood defenders came down with... Blackman completed one pass for the game... definitely not the sternest of tests for the Bruins' D... Brentwood is a good team, but next week will be their biggest challenge of the season... Oh, and Brentwood is a carbon copy of Ravenwood offensively, largely because of Jack, I'd say... I think it will be interesting when those two get together... Just food for thought...
  16. And is not starting anymore...
  17. Yeah... class of '94 here... I haven't followed Central too closely the last few years... because they were always so bad when I was there... the word I hear is they're supposed to be pretty good, but I guess they didn't show it last week...
  18. Uh, no... there has only been one person working with me who went to Brentwood since I came in 2000... and he was only with me for two months... I've had two Franklin guys, a Page guy and now a Marion County guy... I went to Chattanooga Central...
  19. OK... where did this nonsense about going to Brentwood come from? I didn't even grow up here...
  20. LOL... whether I'm right or not, you people are reading... so my mission is accomplished...
  21. Obviously none of you have seen BGA... Tim Moore was at the game Saturday... let's just say that he's hopeful he still has enough players left after Centennial gets done with them... the 'Cats have just under 20 good bodies to put on the field... everyone will play both ways... there is NO way this game is close... Centennial is far too talented...
  22. BA smacked Riverdale around in the 95 Clinic Bowl... probably one of the final straws before the Divisional split... 27-16 was that score... not since then I don't think...
  23. Rebel, you're just about the only one...
