  1. Classic "survive and advance". Livingston Academy never quit and were in it until the end. One at a time. Go Cyclones!
  2. Who are Livingston's players? There is plenty of information on this site about Elizabethton's players, but not much on Livingston's.
  3. Good job! I got 7. I had CAK instead of Fulton.
  4. Grainger lost another tough one tonight and will not get another chance at Elizabethton this year. I believe the Lady Grizzlies lose some key players and will have to reload a bit, but they have some talented young players.
  5. Elizabethton won a war with CAK and is on to the Boro. I hope injured guard Sarah Bradley will be able to play. It sounds like Cloudland lost a heartbreaker. I predicted they would lose in the sub-state to Meigs County, I just predicted the loss would be on the road. Great season Lady Landers! We are down to one. Go Cyclones!
  6. I got 7 out of 8. Knox Fulton made it instead of CAK. It should be a fun state tournament!
  7. Elizabethton started hot and it looked like it might be a blowout early. I believe it was 18-8 after the first quarter. CAK just kept playing hard and worked their way back in the game. It was a battle the whole second half. CAK would get close or tie it and Elizabethton would pull away a little and CAK would come right back. Elizabethton senior point guard Sarah Bradley left the game after a collision with Anna Hammaker and did not return. Betsy really struggled handling the ball for several minutes against the CAK pressure. I knew Hammaker was good, but I was also impressed with Bryant. She fouled out. Heitzman and Nailor also made some big plays for CAK. Freshman point guard Haley Burleson made a huge shot, nailed some clutch free throws, and handled the ball just well enough for the Lady Cyclones to hold on. She was pressed into service and may not have even expected to play, but she really stepped up. Hammaker missed a contested three at the buzzer that would have put it in to overtime. It was a great game and CAK is to be commended for a tremendous effort on the road. Survive and advance. I hope Bradley can play in the Boro. Go Cyclones!!!!!!!!
  8. Good luck to the Lady Landers and Lady Cyclones tonight! I hope to see both teams play in the Boro.
  9. Game day! I cannot get all 8 state tournament teams right now because CAK and Elizabethton are playing each other. I had thought that CAK would beat Fulton. From reading posts from the west, many think that Westview could lose to Covington. I hope everyone stays healthy, that the referees have a good night, and that every team brings their best game. It should be an exciting night.
  10. Should be fun! I still remember Hammaker scoring about 40 on a very good Elizabethton team when she was an 8th grader, so I would strongly advise the Lady Cyclones to stay focused and to play great team defense.
  11. Their averages are not that high. I do not know the exact numbers, but I would think Kayla is averaging more like 17 points a game and Kelci around 14. That would be 31 a game combined. The team averages 67. Robinson, Bradley, Pietrowski, and Kiser all probably average between 5 and 8 points per game. Perry, Schubert, McCrary, and Burleson likely average between 1 and 5 points a game. Maybe a Cyclone statistician will provide us with the averages?
  12. They played a great game tonight. Kiser was on fire in the first half. It was a complete team effort and everybody that played made positive contributions.
  13. The Lady Cyclones outrebounded Grainger 17-6 in the first half. I believe it ended up being a 32-16 rebounding edge at game's end. The Marosites were awesome, Bradley ran the show, Pietrowski and Robinson were strong inside, and Kiser lit it up off the bench. McCrary, Schubert, and Perry also made contributions, proving the Lady Cyclones do go 9 or 10 deep against anybody. Hodge had a pretty good statistical game, but I do not think she expected to have several of her shots blocked by the long and athletic Lady Cyclones. Elizabethton went right at Grainger from the opening tip. Enjoy the win tonight, but it will be back to practice tomorrow to prepare for a very dangerous CAK team coming to Betsy on Saturday. Go Cyclones!
  14. Congratulations to the Lady Landers and Lady Cyclones for winning Region 1 titles! Good luck on Saturday!
  15. They return 3 starters. 5'4" senior point guard Sarah Bradley and the 5'9" sophomore Marosites twins Kelci and Kayla. The two new starters are junior 6'1" post Megan Pietrowski and junior 5'10"post Sarah Robinson. This team is tall, strong, long, and athletic. They also go 9 or 10 deep and have been fun to watch all year. They have a great test against Grainger tomorrow night.
  16. Sycamore and McMinn Central were upset, but I did not have them in my final eight so I do not consider them major upsets. Just my opinion, not having seen either of them play.
  17. No major upsets tonight. My eight picks are all still alive. There are some great games set for Wednesday and the Saturday games are always a lot of fun. Good luck to all and bring your "A" games!
  18. A very disappointing end to a great four year run for the Lady Topper seniors. I really thought they might get the gold ball this year. Now we are left with "what if"..........
  19. Grainger wore Sullivan East out. Lamb had a huge game. Stratton also looked good. Hodge was a little off her game and appeared to injure her ankle. Elizabethton will have to really focus on stopping those three players and hope the others don't hurt them too much. That is a tall order.
  20. Great win for the Lady Landers! Elizabethton struggled and beat South by about 12. South played hard and broke the press. Elizabethton will have to play much better to beat Grainger on Wednesday.
  21. It is nearly game time. I have not seen Morristown West this year, so I do not know what style they like to play. I am betting they will test Science Hill's ball handling and press breaking abilities without Tarter early and often. If Science Hill can handle pressure and get it inside they should be ok. If not, it could get scary for the Toppers.
  22. What was the final score last year? I have been looking forward to this match-up all year. Elizabethton and Grainger should both win Monday to give us the rematch, though Sullivan South and certainly Sullivan East cannot be overlooked. It should be fun. Go Cyclones!
  23. You would certainly have to think so. Elizabethton beat South by 46 (78-32) in the first game this season and by 42 (84-42) the second time. Tipton is a very good post for South that can score inside. The Lady Rebels are not a great ball handling team and have really struggled with turnovers against Elizabethton's pressure defense and press. I will say the Lady Cyclones take this one...... 75-44.
  24. Wow. A near lock for the state tournament is now going to have to try to survive a Region semi-final. Tarter is the key piece of Science Hill's team. She controls the game from the point, penetrates to the basket at will, and sets her teammates up for easy shots. Lyon is a great player and Gregory is very good, but neither are primary ball handlers. The other Lady Toppers are solid, but primarily role players. Winning a Regional semi-final against a very good Morristown West team will be much more difficult now. If the Lady Toppers can pull that win out, they will be no guarantee to win the Region final without Tarter either. The road to Murfreesboro just got significantly more difficult for this outstanding team. We will now see who steps up and if the Lady Toppers can rally and survive this.
  25. Elizabethton and Cloudland did as expected. I believe Hampton lost a heartbreaker. They had a good year and exited where I predicted they would. So did Happy Valley, though the Lady Warriors gave Grainger a battle. We are down to two. Elizabethton gets South Monday. I believe Cloudland gets South Greene. Go Landers and Cyclones!
