That is exactly my suggestion. The student body rushing the court was spontaneous. Had GP just sat for a moment I am sure Coach Dugger and the Cyclones would have lined up for a handshake.

I am about as big of a Cyclone homer as there is, but I would have waited until after the game to read the list of accomplishments, if at all. I think GP used that as motivation, which I would have done as a coach. Elizabethton's post game celebration with the student body was understandable after a close and exciting win. I did not think it was excessive and I did not understand why GP did not wait to shake hands. Hines did all she could until fouling out late to win the game. Pittman is a very good team and is to be commended for their heart and talent. Melenda Perry was huge early for Elizabethton. The Marosite twins came up huge in the final minute and the Lady Cyclones move on to the Boro. Go Cyclones!

I have never seen Haywood or Shutes, but that is a bold prediction. Time will tell how "realistic" of a fan you are.

I believe the Cyclone boys and girls victories over the home standing Grizzlies says it all. The Grainger administration might benefit from a little self reflection.

Elizabethton's Kayla Marosites is the reigning AA Miss Basketball. She has led Elizabethton to a #1 ranking and 20-0 record so far this season. She was on the state champion team as a sophomore. The Lady Cyclones lost in the state semifinals her freshman and junior years and hope to return to Murfreesboro this year. She and twin sister Kelci have signed with ETSU. The Lady Cyclones also have 6'4" center Emily Schubert, super shooting guard Emily Kiser, and floor leader point guard Melenda Perry rounding out the all senior starting five. Despite such balance, Kayla has incredible statistics for the state's second highest scoring team at 74.6 points per game. She is averaging 24 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 3.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks a game. She is shooting 95% from the free throw line, and 43% on three point shots. At 5'10" tall, Kayla is two guard size for college, but plays inside and outside for the Lady Cyclones. She is closing in on the 2,000 point mark for her career and Kelci is closing in on 1,500. Kayla's play speaks for itself as a Miss Basketball nominee. Go Cyclones!

I am still around. I plan to see as much basketball as I can, but I will no longer be doing the Tri-County Seven Rankings. Maybe someone else can take over.

My prayers go out to the family, team, school, and community. Hancock County is a strong tight knit community based in their faith. The Lord will see you all through this tragedy with love, mercy, prayer, and support for one another.

Grainger has good size and some solid players. I think Elizabethton's pressure and depth will wear them down. I will say Elizabethton wins 70-50.

Grainger survived a fierce Greeneville comeback and won it late. Grainger has some good players. I think the Lady Cyclone's depth and constant pressure will cause them some problems over the course of a four quarter game.

Elizabethton won 77-45. Chuckey Doak was quick and scrappy. They played well in the first and third quarters. Elizabethton wore them out in the second and fourth quarters.

I have been around Tennessee girls' basketball for a long time as a coach, parent, and fan. I did not see this game and do not know anything about the coaches involved. I do not cast any blame on the players. To be the best, you have to beat the best. Throwing a game to me is indefensible for any reason. Cowardice and lack of integrity immediately come to mind as descriptions of the coaches' behavior in this game, apparently on both sides. If I were the athletic director or principal at either school, I would consider suspending or even dismissing the coaches involved.

Coach Dugger will not let his team score 100 points against these teams that are rebuilding. He instructed his team to stop shooting at Sullivan North a little while back so they would not reach 100. I believe they had 96. The Lady Cyclones could have scored 100 points in several of the games on their schedule if they wanted to. It serves no purpose and I do not think it will happen. Leading the state in scoring average at over 69 points a game and holding opponents to an average of 34 points a game speaks to the talent level and effort given by this team. The 35 point per game average victory margin is remarkable.

Elizabethton's 5'10" junior wing Kayla Marosites should be a finalist. She plays on an undefeated team that is the defending AA state champion. The team is 10 deep with quality players and Kayla still stands out. She is averaging 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3.4 steals, is 48-113 on three point shots for 42.5%, she shoots 84% at the free throw line, and blocks a lot of shots. I have watched nearly every game of her career including games at the state tournament where she was a dominant force as a freshmen and sophomore. Kayla can go either right or left to the rim, can create her own shot, sets up her teammates with assists, and can knock down three balls from well beyond the arc. She is also a relentless defender that creates havoc with steals, deflections, and athletic blocked shots. Her twin sister Kelci is outstanding as well and it is a joy to watch these two play. Unfortunately for the rest of AA, these two are just juniors and will come back for another year. Go Cyclones!

Elizabethton crushed a solid Sullivan East team 65-27 tonight on the road. Unaka picked up a huge win over Hampton and Cloudland had a tough loss to University High.
