I hope it motivates the Lady Cyclones and puts a chip on their shoulder. When they play with intensity they are awesome. Add some extra "we will show you" attitude and get out of their way. I look forward to possible match-ups with Grainger and Cannon County. #3 may have something to prove.

The season is rapidly winding down. The next two weeks will be exciting as our teams shuffle for District Tournament seeds. There are no changes this week. 1. Elizabethton- (AA) (17-3)- Beat Johnson County by 52. I believe that this team is a real gold ball contender. The Lady Cyclones visit Unicoi Co. Tuesday, Host Sullivan East Thursday in an important league game, and visit Johnson Co. Friday. 2. Cloudland- (A) (22-3)- Beat Volunteer by 13 and Providence Academy by 31. Early season home conference losses to North Greene and South Greene can be avenged this week as the Lady Landers visit North Greene Friday and South Greene Monday. Murfreesboro has to be the goal. 3. Hampton- (A) (14-9)- Whipped Unaka and University High to get back on track. Should win two this week at Johnson County Monday and at Unaka Friday. I think that they can reach the Region semi-finals. Going further than that will be a challenge. 4. Happy Valley - (AA) (12-13)- Lost to Sullivan South at home by 9. Should beat North Tuesday and have an important game on Warrior Hill with Sullivan East on Friday. Making the Region is not guaranteed with Elizabethton, East, South, and Unicoi Co. in the District. They do have a solid chance though. 5. Unicoi Co.- (AA) (11-12)- Drubbed by 16 at East. Host Elizabethton Tuesday and visit Sullivan South Friday for two important league games. Making the Region is a good possibility, though no guarantee. 6. Unaka- (A) (5-18)- Coach Wright's Creekers have had a tough season. They lost by 30 to Hampton and had a winnable game with Hancock Co. snowed out Saturday. It gets no easier at South Greene Tuesday and hosting Hampton Friday. It will take a huge upset to reach the Region. 7. Johnson Co.- (AA) (6-15)- Swamped at Elizabethton by 52 and beat Sullivan North by 17. The short-handed Lady Longhorns face a brutal week hosting Hampton Monday, visiting South Tuesday, and hosting Elizabethton Friday. It has been a long cold winter in Mountain City.

Good win for the Lady Landers. Volunteer should have scheduled a weaker team on senior night. Elizabethton continues to just roll over teams.

I believe that East at Elizabethton is also postponed.

Can Sullivan East keep it close against Elizabethton? I have not seen the Lady Patriots this year. They have a good record and lost earlier in the season at home by 17 to the Lady Cyclones. Both teams are rolling. I will say Elizabethton wins......68-48.

Is this thread a reaction to perceived attacks or negativity towards Riverdale? I have always respected the team's play on the court and never questioned the character of the students or players. Letting the team's play on the court and their actions off of it speak for themselves seems appropriate to me. I am not sure I understand the motivation for publically posting all this, unless you are trying to defend the integrity or honor of your team or school from something I am unaware of. Help me understand.

We have one change this week. Happy Valley beat Unicoi County to earn the #4 spot. The tournaments are only three weeks away. Elizabethton and Cloudland are poised to make deep post-season runs. Hampton, Happy Valley, and Unicoi County are capable of causing some higher ranked teams problems if overlooked. 1. Elizabethton- (AA) (16-3)- Beat Happy Valley by 34 and Sullivan North by 70. This is a very dangerous team. They are ranked #2 in the state. They host East in a big league game on Tuesday and host Johnson County in a makeup game on Thursday. 2. Cloudland- (A) (20-3)- Beat Johnson County by 17 and Hampton by 12. The Lady Landers host University High Tuesday, visit Volunteer for and interesting game Thursday, and travel to Providence Academy on Friday. 3. Hampton- (A) (12-9)- Lost to South Greene by 11 and Cloudland by 12. The Lady Dogs have lost 3 straight and may be wearing down. Injuries have taken their toll. They should get two wins this week to bounce back. They host Unaka Tuesday and visit University High on Friday. 4. Happy Valley- (AA) (12-12)- Lost to East by 20 and Elizabethton by 34, but beat Unicoi Co. by 12 to take this spot. The Lady Warriors can score and have potential. They need to be more consistent and need to play more physical defense. At Johnson County on Tuesday and host South Friday. 5. Unicoi Co.- (AA) (11-11)- Beat North by 48, South by 14, and lost to Happy Valley at home by 12. The Lady Devils are pretty small and do not have much depth, but they can get hot shooting and remain dangerous. They have a tough game at Sullivan East on Friday. 6. Unaka- (A) (5-17)- Lost to North Greene by 11 and have six straight losses. They have a tough game at Hampton Tuesday and visit Hancock Co. Saturday in a game that they have a chance to get a much needed win. 7. Johnson Co.- (AA) (5-14)- Lost by 17 to Cloudland and by 35 to East. They host Happy Valley Tuesday and visit Elizabethton Thursday for two tough games. They have a good chance for a win Friday against Sullivan North.

I was waiting for Friday. If Hampton wins, I will move them up. Elizabethton looked good at Happy Valley. When the Lady Cyclones play hard they are a machine.

Elizabethton visits Happy Valley tonight. It will be interesting to see what Coach Abel's game plan will be to try and slow down the Lady Cyclones. I will take Elizabethton.......70-52.

They host South Greene Tuesday and visit Cloudland Friday. 4. Unicoi Co.- (AA) (9-10)- Beat Johnson County and David Crockett. Visit Sullivan North Tuesday before hosting Happy Valley Friday and Sullivan South Saturday for two important league games. 5. Happy Valley- (AA) (11-10)- Game at Sullivan East was snowed out. The Lady Warriors host Elizabethton Tuesday and visit Unicoi Co. Friday with a chance to move up. 6. Unaka- (A) (5-16)- Lost to Cloudland and South Greene. It has been tough this year on the creek. They host North Greene Friday with a chance for a much needed upset win. 7. Johnson Co.- (AA) (5-12)- Lost to Unicoi Co. Tough week coming up at Cloudland Monday and Sullivan East Tuesday.

Good win for Hampton! Elizabethton was a machine at South. When the Lady Cyclones play with that much defensive intensity and offensive aggressiveness they are fun to watch.

However, North Greene lost to Wayne County in overtime in the final 3 years ago, Cloudland and Hampton have been competitive the last couple of years, and South Greene has just dropped to A after being a very good AA program with several gold balls. Having 4 top twenty caliber A teams in one district is pretty good. Don't sell them short.

Hampton always plays a very tough schedule and it serves them well come tournament time. They are battle tested against good AAA and AA competition before the district 1-A tournament starts.

I never put much stock in the AP poll, but Elizabethton has been a very good AA program for about 10 years and this may be their first ever #1 ranking. The Lady Cyclones have two losses to AAA #1 Science Hill and another close loss to a very good Dorman,SC team. Losing to champion CPA in the semi's last year let this team know they are close to gold ball caliber. One game at a time. Go Cyclones!

District 1-A is looking like a lot of fun come tournament time. Four teams (Cloudland, North Greene, Hampton, and South Greene) with good traditions and recent state visits are battling for seeding positions already. It is hard to say which of the four will survive, but there is a good chance that one or two of them will reach Murfreesboro.

They have dug themselves a hole in the District 1 standings. South Greene and North Greene will be hard to catch and Hampton will be a factor. It really doesn't matter until the District 1 tournament. That will be fun to watch these four teams battle for Regional seeds.

Science Hill will score as many points as Coach Turner allows them to score. I will guess the final score will be Science Hill 85-35.

Host South Tuesday, Johnson County Friday, and visit Crockett Saturday. 5. Happy Valley- (AA) (11-10)- Beat Unaka. At East Tuesday in a big league game. 6. Unaka- (A) (5-14)- Lost to Happy Valley. Have a tough week coming up. They host Cloudland Tuesday and South Greene Friday. 7. Johnson Co.- (AA) (5-11)- At Elizabethton Tuesday and Unicoi County Friday.

Elizabethton played pretty well against Science Hill. The Lady Toppers may be the best AAA team in the state. Tarter is a great point guard that totally controls the game with the ball in her hands. Lyon was dominant on the inside all night. The only hope to beat Science Hill is to limit Tarter's penetration and to really focus on Lyon inside. The Lady Cyclones did neither. They really shut down Head and Gregory, but allowed Tarter and Lyon too many touches and opportunities to dominate the game. Some sort of match-up zone or triangle and two gimmick defense to double Tarter and Lyon is the only hope to beat Science Hill and that would really open up Head and Gregory. Choose your poison. The Lady Toppers are a great team. It will make Elizabethton better playing them.

Science Hill is a top three AAA team in the state and has a legitimate shot to win the whole thing. The Lady Cyclones are a very good AA team and have a shot to get back to Murfreesboro and make some noise. Tarter broke down the Cyclone defense any time the Toppers needed a big basket. She either scored herself or fed Lyon inside. Tarter is not a great outside shooter. I still think a matchup zone that limits her penetration is the only hope to beat Science Hill. Pressing them could also be effective if you keep the ball out of her hands. Easier said than done. The Lady Cyclones really limited Head and Gregory's production, but they could not stop Tarter and Lyon. It will make them a better team down the road.
