  1. These West TN teams are loaded. Still difficult for me to get used to the fact that McKenzie is in region 6
  2. Greenfield has really been able to turn out the talent lately.
  3. For those of you, who have watched the teams in these regions or closely follow these teams, who are some of the top players in this area. I plan on attending several games featuring these teams so I’m just trying to get an idea of where some of the individual talent is
  4. The game is evolving into more and more of a perimeter game and especially behind the three point arc. The ability of the NBA guys to shoot from long range has progressed so far with guys like Curry and Lilliard. 30 years ago I just didn’t see three pointers being made with such as they are now. That being said a solid post game can go a long way because many folks don’t know how to defend the post well anymore. So for may taste, I still like a good point guard and a string post game.
  5. Well it seems that we have definite contenders in the East and West but with Summertown and Loretto moving to AA then Middle TN appears to be wide open
  6. I’ve been wondering about Wayne County as well. I noticed the region game against Huntington was on NFHS network and WC had a huge lead in that one before Huntington came roaring back to win. If WC has a lot coming back or some impact freshman, then I can see that team being a threat in the district and region. Not sure though about how the matchups would go beyond that. I also watched Collinwood on NFHS network and the PG seemed like a good player but heavily dependent upon the right hand. She was effective though nonetheless. I have no idea about any of the Maury County schools that are also in this district. It just looks like all of these teams in this district or region would have to improve quite a bit to stay in the game with McKenzie in a potential substrate matchup.
  7. I like the new classifications and the new district pairings are interesting. The splits between west and middle Tennessee are more blurry in that Perry County and Frank Hughes are in a different district from Cwood and Wayne County (seems weird that Frank Hughes would be in a different district from teams within the same county considering they are all in the same classification). So in that respect would Perry County now be considered west TN? It appears that West Tenn is loaded with good teams especially McKenzie, Greenfield, and Gleason. And earlier in the thread Wayne County, Huntland, and Moore County we’re mentioned as contending teams in middle TN. I assume Clarkrange is a contender in East Tn as that is seemingly always the case.
  8. Very true in that a lot can and will change between now and the time the season starts. After all of this info on McKenzie, I got curious and watched the region opener against Collinwood on NFHS (I’ve only watched a few Class A games on there because many teams don’t have any games to view). Wow did McKenzie come out hot in that game making 8 three’s in the first quarter. Cwood opened in a zone which isn’t work out well at all. I can see where many folks are so high on McKenzie if that game is any indication of the future of that team.
  9. So who is the new coach at Moore County? That may be old news to some, but not to me. I remember in the days of Fanning that Moore County was tough to beat.
  10. I was going to ask about Moore Co. I remember in the distant past when Moore County and Richland were both really tough teams as well as Collinwood and Wayne County. Speaking of Collinwood: anyone know anything about the Trojans?
  11. I hate ACL injuries and they seem to happen way too frequently.
  12. I figured Wayne County would return to the top at some point, but you may be right in that it’s difficult to handle those devasting ACL injuries. How long will it take the WC post player to return from the ACL? I guess what I’m wondering is will she be able to return before the season is over. I saw yesterday that one of Huntland’s best young players is transferring to Webb School, but I’m not sure how to link things on here yet.
  13. Good info. I know very little about the teams in East Tennessee or even Huntland for that matter. I’m more familiar with the teams in West Tenn. I’m still adjusting to these new districts and regions, but I do expect Class A to be very interesting with the departure of Gibson County, Summertown, and Loretto.
  14. I saw this last week: 1) McKenzie 2) Greenfield 3) Wayne County 4) Huntland 5) Clay County 6) Gleason 7) Van Buren I assume this is based on summer camps, but curious as to what everyone else thinks. I’m pretty sure McKenzie is legit, but what about everyone else?
  15. I'd stop a little short of saying District 12A is strong...from what I've gathered talking to people this district is a little down this year...PC is not nearly as good this year as last...Summertown isn't quite as good...these two teams are usually the best in the District...Then, Santa Fe lost a great deal with the seniors they lost...so it is understandable that their not as good...WC is better with the addition of Bryant...therefore Collinwood is worse...Collinwood wasn't great last year, but they were capable of pulling an upset...this year their not capable of pulling an upset. My information comes from within the district. I haven't got to witness many teams in this district play. My info. comes from people within these school systems, so I feel it is pretty much on target.
  16. I've never heard of one team cheating another team. What did Clifton do? Did they tie up some of PC's best players in the dressing room? Did they tell them that the game started at 9:00, so PC was late and they raced out to a big lead? The point is that it is hard for a TEAM to cheat another TEAM. Maybe they raised the basket on PC's end during the 2nd half. I don't know. If the officiating is in question, then that is one thing. In the games that I've been too, then officiating has been inconsistent. When I was younger, I would generally get upset at the refs. Now I realize that they are going to make some poor calls. When the officiating is looked at through unbiased eyes, then you can clearly see that while calls are missed (they go both ways). Again my question: CHEATED? I'd like to know more.

  18. As an outside observer to Class A football, it seems as though the private schools are bitter about being seen as having an advantage over the non-private schools. I'm tired of reading the ridiculous exaggerations about the technological advantages. I've been to several different schools in the mid-state, and it is quite apparent that from just a facility standpoint that the private schools hold a tremendous advantage in this area. I'm not going to go on about any more of the advantages. I'd like to hear relevant information on the board. Of course, it's not up to me!
  19. I've seen a lot of high school football games this year, but I haven't yet got to see Ezell Harding. A couple of years ago I was awfully impressed. You rarely see Class 1A teams that are that good. I've read a couple of threads about Ezell in the recent weeks, but people seem to be making sarcastic posts. I am sure that they have a spread offense, but a coach from one of the teams in Region 5 say that they are more balanced than in the past. I guess it's the same story as always...Region 5 will produce the State Champion. It doesn't seem that any other team is able to acquire the talent to match-up with these schools. That being said, I may show up at Waynesboro to see Ezell play Wayne Co. if anybody thinks it could be a close game.
  20. I wouldn't say that Wayne Co. has to win be at least 30 points or they will get severely beaten the next week. I've now talked to some very close to the Wayne Co. program and they say at times they are their own worst enemy. I've also heard that with the lead they are a conservative team. I like teams that concentrate on winning and not the margin of victory. With that being said, if they begin to dominate the game then don't be surprised to see them back off a bit. From my source, the Wayne Co. team has some injuries that they definitely don't need to get any worse. So, forget the theory of having to win by at least 30 points because it doesn't fit the scenario here.
  21. I no longer play football. Too old!!! I'm now just an observer, but it is part of my job to observe the kids of the Middle Tennessee area.
  22. Perry Co. has a lot of talent, but I am always a little cautious of teams that lost a point guard. Especially one like Turnbo. We'll see if anyone can step and be the floor general that she was. Consequently, I try to base my picks on who has a strength at point guard and in the post. These are the consistencies that win basketball games along with defense. Thus, Summertown wouldn't be a bad pick for the District. They have a point guard back. They play tough defense. They have Corbin who should become a scorer in the post. I don't that much about all the other teams, but I am familiar with Perry Co., Wayne Co, and Summertown. Wayne Co. will surprise some people as they often do when everyone counts them out. By the end of the year, they could be really strong. I saw Collinwood play once last year. Maybe they had a bad game, but they couldn't find scoring from anywhere. I think they'll have to be drastically better to compete for the D-12 title. I'll give them fourth. Of course, it's still early to be talking basketball especially District Championships.
  23. Mt. Pleasant is better than some people might think. From what I hear, they have a pretty talented squad. In the past, Mt. Pleasant has been a school that has played better in the post-season (especially in basketball) than in the regular season. They definitely need some breaks to win this game, but people have told me that they faced two teams this year that ran a shotgun spread offense with no huddle. At least, they'll have some previous preparation for this offense. Still, I think they're a long shot, but you never know.
  24. Coaches in Region 6 have told me that Mt. Pleasant has really gotten better. Last year, they were a walk in the park. This year it's a different story. Collinwood is definitely not as good as they were last year. They do have a very talented runningback, but from what I hear sometimes he doesn't get many carries. Moore Co. has improved, but not by a great deal. Wayne Co. is significantly better in most people's eyes. They do have weaknesses with turnovers being a big problem for them. Apparently, their quarterback is pretty tough to stop. Based on the info. from Region 6 and Region 5, I'm making these predictions: DCA over Moore Co. (big something like 42-7) Ezell over Mt. Pleasant (closer than some might think 35-28) CPA over Collinwood (not even close 49-14) Wayne Co. over DA (guess? 32-21)
  25. Based on my inside connections, Moore Co. has little to no shot at winning this game. I have heard, however, that Moore Co. has more talent than their record indicates. I guess that is a good sign in a relative way. Thus, if Moore Co. can finally play to their potential, then DCA wouldn't be facing a normal fourth seed. I'm not getting my hopes up for this one though. DCA's region is much tougher than Moore Co's, so their statistics are far more impressive. Prediction: DCA 42 Moore Co. 7
