  1. Angie Castle from Whitwell High School will be playing softball for Maryville College.
  2. The District 6-A tournament was finished yesterday at Chattanooga Christian in single elimination. The first game was Whitwell vs Chattanooga Christian vs Whitwell won 2-0 to advance to the chapionship game. The second game was Sale Creek vs Lookout Valley. Sale Creek won 3-0 to advance to the championship game. The Championship game was indeed a nail-biter. Both Whitwell and Sale Creek scored one point during the regular seven innings. The game then went into triple overtime. The game remained scoreless until the top of 10th inning, during International overtime, where a sacrafice bunt by Perkins and a hard hit grounder by Kilgore scored the runner. Whitwell then held off Sale Creek in the bottom of the tenth to claim the 6-A District Tilte. Overall both teams played a great game in pitching, hitting and defense. Good Luck to both teams during the Region.
  3. Today against Boyd the Lady Tigers made a few mental mistakes and errors early that gave Boyd three runs. Whitwell was hitting the ball hard, but it was hit right to Boyd's players. Holly perkins went 2-3 and scored Whitwell's one run on a sacrafice grounder by Henry. Castle pitched well especially in the later innings when many innings went three up and three down. The Lady Tigers have three more important games this week with Marion, Grace, and Sale Creek. Hopefully we'll meet Boyd again in the Region Finals. Good Luck this week ladies.
  4. Whitwell did play well, but nothing close to what they have been. They made too many errors which gave Sale Creek too many unearned runs. The two will face off again Tuesday at Sale Creek. Should be interesting.
  5. Not sure how many hits Sale Creek had, but I do remember reading that Abbie Smith had a double. I also believe the score was 6-3 or something close to that. Smith and Martin are hitting well and we will have to watch out for them tomorrow. Do you know if Heather Jameson is still injured?
  6. Mynameis, If I had a good mark, I'd give you one. It really is a shame that a person can't say congratulations to their team without getting a bunch of smack from everybody else.

  8. I do find it humorous that a game that was never even played has not only a fake score, but also little stories such as an 8th grader pitching. Someone must have had a lot of fun coming up with this one Good luck Whitwell this week and when you actually do play Boyd. Should be a good game. Also Tiger34, those girls hitting stats are little higher since the paper didn't include the stats from the CCS 13-1 win. Not a 100% sure but I think Reynolds not only has an above .800 BA but also has a 1.000 on base %. Castle has 12 RBI's with a pretty high BA, not sure why she's not in the paper. Henry also gained some more RBI's and also increased her BA with the CCS game. Plus the whole lineup is hitting the ball hard. They will be a force to recon with this year.
  9. Whitwell-13 Chattanooga Christian-1
  10. bcll, You must have solely based this list on the Ootlewah Tourney results. You are missing some very strong single A teams like Whitwell and Boyd, who I believe are better than Lookout Valley or Grace. [Edited by tigerman9903 on 3-20-03 6:45P]
  11. Toucan12, Did the girl from Flordia pitch at the S. Pitt playday, or is she someone new?
  12. With one week of play through, my vote for top Sequatchie Valley team is Whitwell. They went 7-0 in the South Pittsburg and Sequatchie playdays, beating Marion,Grundy,Bledsoe,Richard Hardy, Sequatchie, and Cookeville. This past week they beat disrtict rivals CCS 6-1 and South Pittsburg 11-2. This year the Lady Tigers have strong pitching, strong catching, a strong defense, a very productive offense, good attitudes, and excellent coaching. These ladies are playing like a ballteam, and if they keep it up they might be one of the top teams in Single A. Good Luck this week ladies!!!!
  13. Whitwell- 11 South Pittsburg- 2 Keep up the good work girls!!!!
  14. This year Whitwell High School has a group of very talented Freshmen. Jessica Kilgore, Jessica Reynolds, and Katie Layne are starters in key postions. They are strong defensive and offensive players. Against Chattanooga Christian Jessica R. went 4-4, Jessica K. also got a hit, and Katie Layne hit a double. Watch out for Whitwell with these three and the very talented veteran players, they will be one of the top single A teams in the area.
  15. Whitwell 6 - Chattanooga Christian 1
