  1. Seth has the size 6'4" 215, speed 4.64 and confidence to lead the city in receiving and establish himself as one of the top guys around...but his coaches ask him to do so much, can he stay healthy? The great thing for temple is that the other guys can catch as well, they got 4-5 guys including Dee Newson who is so quick, so Seth won't have to do it all...this makes for a very dangerous offense.
  2. topic closed - nothin else has to be said. muffin sure does know his chattanooga football and especially temple athletics. He is always right!
  3. Hey drunkensailor, I think you seem to know your stuff and your assessment is fair and postive, thanks. Tell me about the kid you said would be quarterback, his is the only name I did not recognize. Has he played before? Can he get the ball to the big man, or is he more of a runner?
  4. I think lv22 is right on one thing and possibly mistaken about something else. First, he is right that LV is going to be much, much better. They have some very good young talent and they will not be the push over that people think. I pick them as the dark horse and they will be very competitive. The mistake might be to think Temple worse with Caleb gone. Granted, he was something else, the region coaches that Temple played, Valley, Copper and Whitwell were in agreement that stopping him was almost impossible. But since he left it has forced Temple to become mulit-dimensional. In their spring scrimmage they had all four starting receivers catch at least two passes, one with 9 and one with 5. It is possible that they could be more difficult because you can't load up on one or two kids, nor can you only play the pass, as they have started running the ball very well. I think it will be a battle between LV, Temple, Copper, Whitwell and SP. SP probably has the advantage, but if they take a night off, any of those teams could pull the upset.
  5. Piratepride is right...we haven't proved anything other than we have had some good athletes playing very average competition. I ain't got no problem with that. But we have not acted like we are going to win state, so that was unfair. We want to be competitive and we think we have some good players, but we also have a big problem due to the fact that our numbers are so low. We will give SP all we got and if the intangables happen to go our way...who knows.
  6. First, there was Temple Bias in my post, I admit that with no strings attached. SEcond, I talked to some guys who went to every practice and stick man or not, he destroyed them, even one of the coaches Fant I think his name is said Skogan was the best there and they couldn't cover him, but then again they couldn't cover anyone from Ga either. Third, I did not say that Boyd's coaches are bad play callers IN THE SEASON I am saying for an all star game it was bad...really bad. But then again, if you are going to play the Aikens kid at QB then you are not going to be able to throw. Many teams get away with being one dimensional during season but at this level there usually needs to be some balance and there wasn't. The Boyd Coaches are A+ people and A+ coaches, that is why a C job from them on Saturday night stood out.
  7. Bigbody is right. You get not wins for having a field. As a Temple fan, I love the fact that everyone thinks we are a joke...that's why Kentucky offered one of our kids a spot on their team, and why 3 SEC schools are interested in two of our players because we are a joke. The only thing greater than the arrogance of those who post on this would be their ignorance. Keep talking...we love it.
  8. To sergeantowl22, old moc and the rest of yall, I just talked to the Temple coaches, and here are the facts. Two SEC schools have been on campus. Caleb Skogen was offered a spot on the Kentucky team for this year, coach Brooks said they would red-shirt him, put 15-20 pounds on him and by what he saw on tape in both BB and FB said Caleb would compete for a starting position as a red-shirt freshmen. Caleb turned it down, because he would have to wait one year for a scholarship and his real love is BB. Smithson is being looked at by Vandy, Kentucky, Eastern Carolina and others. He is on Vandy's and Kentucky's "hot list". He is the real deal, period. Seth Skogen has already drawn attention from Alabama, Coach Shula spoke to coach Beard about Seth, Kentucky, Vandy and a number of schools in UTC's division. Josh Smith is also being looked at by a number of schools and will play on Saturday's somewhere. Playing McCallie?? McCallie has 800 boys in the school, Temple 55. It is not that Temple doesn't have talented kids which is obvious from what I have written. They don't have enough talent. The question is not one of quality it is one of quantity. IF Temple ever gets to the point where they have 70 kids out for FB, like Boyd, then maybe it will change. Remember, the program is two years old, but there have been and are some real studs in it. IN BB Temple plays anyone and everyone...they may not win, but they duck nobody, Brainard, Ooltewah, Bradley Central, East Ridge name them, Temple plays them. But you can't expect FB to be at that level in just two years.
  9. I am going to try and be as careful as possible. Team Tn was so poorly coached and it was obvious. For example: Why is Akins trying to throw? He is a great athlete, a great runner, a great option qb and as tough as they come. But he is not a thrower, he is not even an average thrower and yet they got him in there way too much. He played four positions during the night, come on...I know his dad was the coach but this was just too much. Second, teh skogan kid runs a 4.4 beat everyone all week long in practice, had Kentucky offer him a spot on team at receiver, (is any other receiver on the team even playing college ball?) and they threw to him one time at the end of the game. The Boyd coaches are great fundemental teachers of the game, but they are not good play callers and they have tunnel vision about the game...run, run, run. It works great in single A, but not in all star games. Even the pass patterns were micky mouse, all you have to do is look at what Georgia did, look at their routes in comparison and the contrast makes my point. Bottom line both teams had great talent, Tn just got out coached...badly.
  10. Bigbody, did he say WHY he is not playing? What does that do to SP to lose him if it is true?

    TEMPLE

I think Bigbody is right. Caleb was the best receiver I have ever seen in High School, but Temple had a tendency to lean on him a bit hard. already this year when the guys go out to throw it is obvious that there is better balance. Seth will be primary due to his size, speed and experience, but across the board the receivers are better. The biggest thing will by yards after the catch, some of these guys are very quick and can make you miss in the open field, which of course is what the spread is designed to do, get guys in the open field. We will see, the potential is there, but we all know what potential means...(you haven't done anything yet)
  12. Grace Golden Eagles, Let me ask you a question after a comment. Remember, potential is one thing, it only means you haven't done anything yet, so when I say potential, that is all it is, potential, the raw pieces are there, but that is true of many athletes in many sports who don't materialize. Second, and I mean this sincerely, if Seth played for Cleveland or Soddy Daisy and not Temple, would you be as doubtful? I only ask because your posts over the year seem to indicate that you really have a bias against anything red and white, (Temple). Maybe your just having fun, no problem, or trying to be funny, "anger management classes". I am just wondering if you dislike Seth and for that matter your posts would indicate your not to fond of Caleb either, because of the Temple connection.
  13. I appreciate baldcoach's dose of reality but we have to be careful with comparisons. I am not saying that we shouldn't make them, only be careful. For example: Healy broke the city's passing record, Kevin Smithson destroyed the single season passing record as a junior. So will HE play D-I? Peardon broke the scoring record as a RB last year, but Caleb Skogen as a receiver broke the same record but did not surpass Peardon, and he is not playing college football. Football is different than other sports. Look at this kid from Mercer who played basketball and not football in college. (Wesley Duke) He has had 6 NFL teams at the school testing him and has been guarenteed a free agency in the NFL. Why? Because of his body. Peardon and Healy were great but their size hurt them, whether you like it or not. A kid who has the body and some speed, (he does have to be able to play a bit, I understand that, nonetheless,) gets looks, IF, IF those in his corner know how to market him. If Seth Skogen gets to 6'5" 235, can run in the 4.6's and stays healthy and those around him have any clue how to hype and promote him, he has a very good chance at playing at a high level. Alabama? Who knows. Those are very big "ifs" but not a one of them is beyond the scope of possibility.

    Region 3-1A

I agree with loveit 100% If Temple has anything good, anything to get excited about you can count on someone from grace to try and tarnish it. Get over it! Seth will play on Saturday, and if you want to put some real $$ on this let me know and I will give you my personal email and we can set it up. In the meantime, get over your petty jealousies and recognize talent when you see it.
  15. hahaha, that is probably true. I saw Seth the other day and asked him about all of this, (interesting that he is not on here talking about himself, I kinda admire that) and this is nothing but motivation for him. He is working harder than ever, in the weight room, doing all the little things that make for great players, so everyone can run him down all they want, but I am telling you, he will be ready, he will be one heck of a player, and Golden eagle simply doesnt' know what he/she is talking about...I will take that bet, if you really want it, let me know and we can talk and put some real money on this one..the boy will be good, really good.

    TEMPLE

Temple will do just fine, the questions will be: first, can they stay healthy? They don't have a lot of depth due to numbers. Second, can teams adjust to the very unorthodox nature of their offense? They do some pretty odd things and this year the coaches are working overtime to keep people guessing. This is where not having a lot of experience is helpful. The kids don't even know how odd and difficult their offense is, because they have nothing to compare it to! Third, will the weight room efforts pay off? The team is living in the weight room, they really seem to want it, and this, as everyone knows is vital to making an impact. Is Temple the class of single A, probably not, but they will make quite a splash for a team that has only had a program for 3 years.
  17. There is no way for anyone to know what the motives are behind the things that people are saying, so I will not even try. I do know this and I played college football and had pro try outs, Seth has the God given raw gifts to play at the next level IF, IF he works his ever living butt off. What level? That depends on him. He is 6'4" and right about 210 and has just started on a serious work out regiment. He was second in the city in number of catches last year, so he can obviously catch the ball, time will tell, but I will take the grace guy with the truck up on his big mouth bet. SEth, if he stays healthy, will play at the next level and could play at the highest level. I really have little time for Grace's comments on Temple, there is too much animosity for anything to be objective, but I have seen Seth play and seen his determination this off season. I for one believe in him and if you don't, fine...time will tell.
  18. Caleb and Jake are real tight, like best buds and Jake is taking his bro under his wing to get him ready for the rigors of D-I basketball. He will be just fine, although I don't ever see him getting, "huge", just stronger cuz you can't stop what you can't touch, and the boy is lightning! He will be a better college player than a high school player and he was no slouch in High school!
  19. the two kids to watch for from Chattanooga are definately Robinson from South Pitt, IF, and it is a big if, he can find a supporting cast and Seth Skogan from Temple. I heard the kid has a speed and strength coach and is working his fanny off to get bigger and faster. he is already about 6'4" and 210, can shoot and isn't afriad of contact...if he works at it, he will be a dominate force inside and out and only going to be a junior.
  20. Michael, You are right about the area and city thing, that is the way it works, so no one is lying as someone suggested. However, you are simply wrong about the hype of the TFP. I get the paper AND I predicted this before even one game was played. So to make sure people knew I was right, I cataloged the year...I love being right. The TFP did nothing on Skogan, no article no nothing. And Adams got his big one and then many headlines. Every time this happend I would make a big deal about it, again, just to prove my point when the time came, because I was THAT sure of what was going to happen. AGain, Jonathan is a great kid and a very good player, but he did not improve nor was he to his team what Skogan was nor for that matter what Little was to theirs. Wait till November next year, and I will again tell you who the hyped player will be...its really not that hard to predict what they will do. I was right with the older Skogen, Cook and now Adams, I wish there was some way to bet on this and make some money!
  21. Adams got the award and it comes out in a few days. This is no big surprise. Before the season started I told a few folks this was a lock, regardless of who did better or what kind of season Adams had, (figuring of course it wouldn't be a total bust). The TFP is predictable to a fault. They pick a guy, sometimes a couple of guys, hype them to no end throughout the season and then give them an award at the end. It makes the kid look good and makes the paper look like they know what they are doing. Sometimes they are right, but this year they are not. Adams is very good, but he is not the best in the city, in fact his improvement from jr. to sr. was not even close to as profound as was Little's or Skogan's. But, that doesn't matter, he was TFP's guy before it started and did nothing to lose the honor. I will say that he is a great kid and very good player and I will be pulling for him as I hope all of Chatt would be at OD.
  22. What is your e mail address coach T.
  23. CoachT, why are the posts I make saying they have to be reviewed before they can be put on? Is there a problem? I haven't used bad language nor has my content been any different than anyone elses, this is confusing to me, hope you can help me out. I make a post and it doesn't get listed, am I to conclude that if I don't follow party line my opinion is not welcome? Again, I just need some help on this one. Thanks
  24. Don't forget about little joey skogen steppin up and playing big minutes.
