  1. My my. Quite defensive of the 18th place finish. Tell me then, if it's an individual tournament, why are they keeping the TEAM scores?
  2. Do you not think that there are wrestling coaches that say wrestling only or nothing? Probably not because then they would not have many wrestlers because most would choose something else. That is my whole point! What makes it so unpopular that people aren't willing to just be wrestlers, other than it is a hard sport. I'm sorry but I've done wrestling and a lot of other sports and it really isn't THAT hard!! Eddie it IS the toughest sport. Take a poll to see how many football players try to wrestle and get stomped. A lot of them (not all) THINK they can come out and dominate on the mats but they can't because they don't have the endurance, technique and tactics necessary to compete. FB players have terrific anaerobic fitness but to wrestle you need a unique blend of anaerobic and aerobic fitness. Football is the toughest sport when all you need is strength with quick bursts of speed (but play duration is usually no more than 5-10 seconds with at least a 30 second rest). I'd put basketball right up there with wrestling in terms of overall physical demands. IMO soccer would be the hardest in terms of aerobic type fitness. Baseball is in a category of its own.
  3. Takedown3 since it's possible pujo may need some help here, let me assist... non sequitur: "An inference or conclusion that does not follow from the premises or evidence." OR "A statement that does not follow logically from what preceded it."
  4. I understand voting was completed and team selections will be announced soon. TSSAA does not recognize an all-state or all-tournament team in soccer. Must be a "minor" sport considering "only" 150 million play it globally.
  5. Friends, in Tennessee, the answer to your question is that there are 8 teams that can lay claim to "best" in state at the end of the season. All else is mere speculation and will never be truly known or settled here.
  6. It's all a big TSSAA conspiracy almost comparable to JFK, Elvis, etc. to give state championships to privates.
  7. Obviously it was a conspiracy crafted by the TSSAA to allow privates to continue to win state championships. They want to win too.
  8. Looks like the publics have got some work to do to compete with the evil, recruit happy, privates.
  9. Aren't we all whining a little bit here, ourselves? Don't we all want our way or we are going home and taking the ball with us? The only way I want it is to move to a total merit based classification system similar to promotion and relegation in European soccer. Short of this, split so privates can play the best non-whining competition available in all sports.
  10. Since I'm entitled to my opinion let me state that one's experience doesn't necessarily equate to one's maturity in a matter. I'm with VolGen and call it like I see it, whining is whining and the coach is doing just that. He's correct in that a multiplier will only delay the inevitable. Split now, please!
  11. As long as TSSAA and the new organization can agree to have full reciprocity in terms of scheduling each other it would be the best solution for all involved. I wonder though...do many of the student-athletes complain about having to play privates or larger publics or do they just want to play the best competition available?...or is it just the adults that want things to be "fair"?
  12. StanTrott you don't need kudos from me but that was the most fair and balanced post on the recruiting topic you've made. 100% in agreement.
  13. Understood but when those football player rankings come out and all the west sees is Nashville Nashville Knoxville Knoxville Chattanooga Chattanooga you'll understand why the west discounts their validity
  14. I'll tell all of you. When you have the credentials he has start your own rating service. It is his opinion. I notice noone backed off their anti-Memphis bias. Would you feel the same way if it was heavy Nashville/Knox/Chatt? Honestly now.
  15. Thanks and I think most posters here understand your not boasting, just defending the turf on the west side of the state.
  16. hmmmm...catalyst and clipper are amazingly silent now.
  17. Agreed Coach Lewis. Who are some of your top newcomers and/or returners other than the Marable's?
  18. Since when does ones location (if he's from Memphis which he isn't) as an analyst influence their picks? Maybe Memphis happens to have the best talent this year. Read for yourself about Bolus - "Considered among the top prep basketball experts in the country by Street & Smith, The Sporting News, Sports Illustrated, and Chicago Sun Times, Rick Bolus is entering his 31st year as a basketball scout. Besides being on the Board of Selectors for the Naismith Prep Player of the Year, Bolus is a consultant for several national basketball tournaments and shootouts throughout the country as well as for Street & Smith. Just some of Bolus’ current college subscribers include Kentucky, Arizona and Louisville. While most scouting/recruiting services have come and gone over the past 30 years, Rick Bolus’ High Potential Basketball Recruiting Service has withstood the test of time since 1973. Bolus has done color commentary for Insight Communications “High School Game of the Week” and he recently appeared on CNN and CNN Headline News."
  19. "It's your attitude, not your aptitude, that dictates your altitude."
  20. waaaaah! mommy, mommy my diapers need changing again!
  21. VolGen, Having experienced both, (private and public, h.s. and college) let me say you have hit the proverbial nail on the head with your post. I wish more schools and communties would establish and participate in events like the Bridges Classic in Memphis. A split will only widen the perceived gap between public and privates whereas staying together will help dispel the myths you so eloquently established.
  22. I/We will give it a rest when we want to. Probably right after you give it a rest.
