Having known Coach Cummings for several years, I truly feel that he is the person to turn around the program. I am sure Gut would do a fine job as well. Gut knows a heck of alot of football and is a tremendous asset to JC. When you say that the record is 27-28, that does not tell the story. You need to look at it year by year. West finished 2nd behind Maryville in a very tough region. Ask George about Coach Cummings. He turned the West program around. Look at total number of yards offense per year and per game. Defense has been a little loose in the past. Many games were lost where West had over 400 yards of offense, but gave up 410. Defense at West is in very good hands now and is much more fundamentally sound. If he decides or is offered the job, he and Gut would make a pretty strong team. He is a tremendous motivator. He brought more atheletes out of the halls than any other coach was able to do. Extreme discipline, high expectations for himself, and a committment to the finer details is what he's all about. Jeff County would be in great hands. I hope that if he is the next coach at JC, that people give him a chance from the get go and look past the fact that he is not from Jeff. County. I know you will be pleased with what you get.

So what is up with the Powell offense? Who's going to be under center and what will they still be running the veer? Anybody know? If I am not mistaken, the veer is what West does. They should be ready to defend it.

Can West keep it close? They have a high octane offense that can put points on the board. How many will be enough?

Get caught drinking by the cops, don't practice half the week, but still start the next week and be a captain for the game from what I heard. Great morals. At least over here in North Knoxville, morals come before winning. Good luck to the Panthers! They may need to talk to Earl about Karma. Maybe we'll meet in the playoffs and deliver a little Karma.

Bulldg75, it sounds like you are a player not a parent. If you are a parent then I have a problem with the "coach's sons" comment. If you are a player, I am sorry for your rough season, I hope things get better. Bad mouthing your coaches is not a positive step. Chuck Rouse is a good guy and to assume that his son will get special treatment is ignorant and juvenile. What has happened to high school sports? Competition among parents is increasing every year. I have seen it in every sport. If their kids are not starting, its because they are being cheated, treated wrong, or because someone is getting special treatment. There are only so many positions. High school sports are not recreation leagues. Everyone does not get to play. I just feel that some parents need to realize that their kids might not be better than the guy in front of him or her. Quit making excuses. Create your own rec league so that your child will be treated fairly and you can be in more control. Transfer to another school. Take up golf. Be in the band. you have choices, thats the point. Some parents make great coaches. Believe it or not they can be fair and unbias. Let you players compete for positions and speak for themselves. You can not fight all of their battles. You are doing them a great injustice. Granted, I am not in the Bearden family so I do not fully know your situation as far as the coaches go. I do know that the constant bad mouthing and negativity is extremely unhealthy for a kid to watch and take part in. I hope things work out for you or your son. I love high school sports, but the negativity brought on by parents who think they know everything is bring it down. Let them play.

What if Heritage gets beat by West, don't they still have to play? Where does that leave things? Does South Doyle play anymore district games?

Any idea what the scenarios are for seeding in the tournament. I assume Farragut will be #1 and Sevier Co. will be #8. This is an exciting time of year. Any help would be great.

This is ridiculous!! Can we please find out WHY these players felt so strongly about this protest. I can't imagine it matters, the coach is in charge...period. But, I would like to at least understand what was going through their minds. It probably isn't a good reason or one of you (players) would have already stated it.
