  1. Gook mark for you bigred11. You hit the nail on the head. Parents raise kids, teachers teach kids. Good teachers will try to help kids when they can tell the parents are failing at home but teachers can certainly not be the blame for anything a kid does bad. Nor should teachers take the credit for things a kid does well.
  2. You can throw all those free lunch numbers around all you want to. To me they mean nothing. As I have stated before, I know for a fact of a kid who lived in the local projects, who family did not have very much money, yet by an act of God, this kid was able to attend a private school in a neighboring county. Oh, yeah, he also played basketball. Oh, and by the way, they went to the state finals. Also, I know of many people who "work" the system and get food stamps, free lunches and other welfare yet, they have nice homes, drive nice cars, ect. ect.. so your numbers mean very little to me. Just my opinion.
  3. Thanks. I'm just trying to get the word out on these gloves. They are changing the game. The first real change in the glove as we know it in many, many years. [Edited by imasoftballer on 3-3-03 8:46A]
  4. The number of students to draw from. Jackson is not as big as the Nashville/Metro area. That is all I meant. [Edited by imasoftballer on 2-28-03 8:52A]
  5. Akadema has a new glove design that no one matches in their reptilian series. Thegloves are very comparable to Nokona and the Wilson A2000 but at a fraction ofthe price. Check the web for prices then get a quote from me. [Edited by imasoftballer on 2-27-03 2:47P] [Edited by imasoftballer on 2-27-03 2:48P]
  6. You said it, this is not a head hunt for one particular private school. It is all of them collectively. They are the minority and they are winning the vast majority of the state championships. The public schools in all of 1A have more schools, more students, yet much few championships. Why? The talent pools drawn from are much different. And since YOU brought it up again, Ezell dominates softball. And lo and behold the one year they don't win it all, guess who does? Another private school! And before we go any farther, I know, they work harder than everyone else, have better coaches, ect. ect. ect... [Edited by imasoftballer on 2-27-03 9:29A]
  7. I don't buy that. Their enrollment is on par with 1A publics but not their drawing pool. They have all of Jackson to draw from. That is not to say that every kid in Jackson wants to attend a private school but theoretically they could. And I agree, Jackson is not near as bad as the privates in the Nashville metro area. The numbers are relative. I think that once a private shows it is a contender and or wins a state championship their drawing power is increased. With what has been said on here that should not be the case because kids do not go to private schools for athletics!
  8. Do you stick your tounge out and say "nanny nanny boo boo" when you write your post to me? So childish!
  9. Seems to me then, you know nothing of the plight of the small rural schools in 1A and 2A, right? To compare your sons 5A-4A team to small, isolated, rural 1A teams does not work. I agree, that if Maryville is open zoned they do have an advantage, slight as it maybe. But think about this. Most of the 1A private schools have a drawing pool the same size of a Maryville and they are still playing 1A. Although both might have an advantage, I think everyone can see which way the scales are tipping. The Maryville's advantage does not even compare. One other thing, is Maryville dominating every sport they play in 4A? The privates are in 1A!!!
  10. What school does you son attend? Is it a small rural school in 1A that "has" to play these private schools?
  11. I tend to agree, most of the damage is done by hitting the cold, hard ball. Even if the bat is warm, if the ball is cold and hard the bat will be damaged. I do think think that a cold bat will dent or break easier than a warm one. When the metal gets cold, especially in thin walled bats, they are less flexable. I will also say that hitting a cold ball with a warm bat, it will really jump off the bat. But the ball will damage the bat. I have known of guys in slo-pitch to put microwaved balls on dry ice in a cooler during the day. Talk about a hard ball! [Edited by imasoftballer on 2-27-03 8:54A]
  12. Thanks for the personal attack. It shows your real colors. I have not attack you or anyone else. I just will not let people run down ALL public school education. There is way more complaining about public schools and their ways than there is about people complaining about private schools. I have said and will say again "private schools have a very good purpose, accomplish many good things, employ and produce good people" but you can not compare the two types of schools together. You know nothing of me, yet you ban me from your children. Seems many took that same attitude with Jesus Christ. I say we keep our banter to the debate at hand and stop the personal attacks. I don't know you and I try not to judge you, for that is a sin.
  13. Every school should get their shot at holding the tournament. One solution maybe the selling of the host's rights to a larger school or a profit sharing scheme. Sure, I agree the larger gyms are the ideal place to hold the tournaments but the smaller schools probably need the money more to fund their program than the bigger schools do. The concession stand alone will take in as much money if not more than the gate will. That is money that the smaller schools never see!
  14. Chris was another one of thos 6'4" kids from Hohenwald who could barely reach the rim but made up for his lack of jumping ability in other areas of the game. Sheets was know for his famous break-aways which always yielded him 6 rebounds and 2 points as he would bounce shot after shot off the backboard to himself, as the defense trailed behind, to pad his rebounding stats. He would average 30 rebounds a night and 29 of them would be offensive (and that was meant to be used with both meanings of the word) and all of those would be rebounds of his own shot. Chris was the first big man to perfect the coast to coast drive later embilished upon by Terry "Gooch" Shipp. Hindered only by his blazing slowness the coast to coast drive was a thing of beauty. The dribbling of the ball chin high, the multible head fakes and the cross-over and all this while no one was guarding him. It was poetry in motion. Chris', after high school, years on the court were cut short by many bouts with the law. If only Josh Keltner(SRO and all round good guy) had been around then to point this misguided youth in the right direction. When former teammate and ex-Michigan State star was asked to comment on Chris, he has this to say..."Chris played basketball." I think that sums it all up for those of us fortunate enough to see him play. [Edited by imasoftballer on 2-24-03 10:16A]
  15. Do you not think the smaller schools should be allowed to make some money come tournament time? These schools have as much right to generate income as the the bigger schools. The small schools have been denied too long!
  16. I may be bias, but I think the softball field in Lewis Co. should be included in this list.
  17. Most of the gloves are 30% off the retail price listed at their web site. If you take your game seriously, don't rely on a $40 glove from Wal-Mart. Use what the pros use. Ozzie Smith and Gary Carter(hall of famers) are both on the advisory staff for Akademia and work closely with the staff in the design of the gloves. Look in this months issue of eastbay and compare prices! [Edited by imasoftballer on 2-27-03 9:08A]
  18. First- I'm still in the place I've always been. Nobody, I repeat NOBODY puts me where I don't want to be! Besides he was talking to some girl! And so were you. See what happens when you assume. Second- Sure privates still pay taxes, but what about the thousands of dollars private supporters spend besides that for education? I bet it was never a possiblity to donate that money to better public schools. Or to use thier influence and money to help change laws and rules that hold public schools back. Someone asked about public Alums rasing money, I wonder how many of those parents who had kids in public schools at one time and now have kids in private schools raised money for thier former public school. I would say the answer to his question is yes, there is some money raised by Alums for public school, the PTO is very active here. I feel, by the comments made by private supporters, that if we are not smart enough to teach your kids, if we don't have the morals to be with your kids, if we don't work hard enough for your kids, it our school is not safe enough for your kids.... then our athletic programs are not going to be good enough for your kids either!!! 19. Football drills work great for outfield practice. Catching ball over each shoulder. It makes them use both hands since the big ball will not fit in the glove. Outfielders need to learn that the first step is back in most cases and when running after a ball in the air they need to keep the glove tucked. [Edited by imasoftballer on 2-21-03 8:24A]
  20. The reason I made my post is because it seemed to me that the point was being made that guns and drugs and rape never happen on private school property or at least it is never reported. To me these comparisions do not show anything. It would be like me saying " There are no cases of AIDS in my house, so everyone should come live with me and AIDS will be done away with." Realisticlly I can not take in everyone, neither can private schools, so we pick and choose who we take to uphold our standards. Public schools on the other hand do have to take everyone, therefore, with the higher population number and the lack of a screening process the chances of guns, drugs, and rape are going to be higher there. It makes me mad that the people with the influence and money to help in some of these problems just seem to ingnore they exsist and instead of helping out the public school they put their money somewhere else. Which is fine, and they have that choice but don't do that then still complain about the problem you left behind!
  21. They have bats also. They have the new Xtension C555 they also have the C405. THE c555 cost $140, a savings of $65. The C405 is $105, a savings of $45. The C555 is BESR certified, comes in 32, 33, and 34 inch length. [Edited by imasoftballer on 2-19-03 1:38P]
