  1. Ashley Tiller has just signed with Freed-Hardaman University. She was the P-1st base for Lewis Co. High school.
  2. Pitchers are not typically considered fielders. They are not charged with fielding errrors unless it is a bunt or a routine ground ball. They are however, lible for throwing errors. BTW, wild pitches and pass balls are considered errors if runners advance or are able to reach first base on a strike out.
  3. Lewis Co. has to be on the the list.
  4. Is Valen hurt? She played 1st against us, not catcher. Just wondering.
  5. Giles won in the bottom of the 7th by a score of 4-3.
  6. All games have to have TSSAA umps to count. If a parent would have called the game and a girl got hurt the school could be sued.
  7. You are right, you probably would not have played at the 3A school at that position. It sounds as though you made a decision to play at a private school because you knew you would get to play. And that is the thing... private schools can draw in kids that should be in upper classes and allows them to "play down". It gives kids choices. Do I stay at a big school, not play, maybe not win? Or do I go to a small private school, get to play, have a shot at a state title? As a kid I think the choice is obvious. The majority of public school kids do not have these choices, either because of location or because of money. I will say also, that I have seen one case where the money problem was taken care of by someone!!!
  8. Several years ago CA had a basketball player come in from out of county. He could not afford the private school nor was he affiliated with the church that supports that school. With him on the basketball team, they made it to the state finals. Where did the money come from? This one example.
  9. We teach linear movement in our swing also but the knob to the ball is what starts the bat in motion. That is what makes the barrel be where the ball is at. We don't take the knob to the ball during the entire swing, we do it just to initiate the swing. Do you do something different??? I agree rotational swings are very weak. (if you are just spining) There has to be a weight shift towards the ball to be powerful. [Edited by imasoftballer on 3-26-03 10:36A] [Edited by imasoftballer on 3-26-03 1:52P]
  10. There is no stolen base credited on a pass ball. It is either an error on the catcher(pass ball) or the pitcher(wild pitch). I just wanted to clarify that.
  11. We use the first basemen as cut off only on ball hit to the right side of second base. 3rd and SS are the cut offs on balls hit to the left of second(depending on the situation). The pitcher is always the backup.
  12. She has added about 15mph since the last time we seen her! Today is St. Patrick's Day, April Fools Day is not until next month!!!
  13. One thing to help speed up break in time is to put the glove in the dryer for 20 min. or so. It will soften the leather enough to work it. Be sure to put glove conditioner on the glove after removal. [Edited by imasoftballer on 3-10-03 1:56P]
  14. I have an Akadema model AXX-6 which retails for $175 for sale. I normally sell these for $125 but I will take $100 + S&H for this one. It is an overstock glove. Brand new, with tags still on it. e-mail me at tlm6185@hotmail.com [Edited by imasoftballer on 3-7-03 10:59A] [Edited by imasoftballer on 3-10-03 8:56A]
  15. I have a brand new left hand throw glove for sale. It is Akadema model # AXX-6 and it retails for $175 I will take $100 + S&H for it. [Edited by imasoftballer on 3-10-03 1:44P]
  16. We scored more runs than Marshall Co. that day. LOL
  17. I don't recall many people at all referring to the "stealing of kids". The private people keep bring that one up. Most of these kids in private schools are from large metro areas with schools in the 4A and 5A classes. They don't miss a kid here and there. They have plenty of others to fill the void. The problem is... the private schools get one or two that should be in 4A or 5A from 2 or 3 schools and then that play in the 1A class. I think many will agree... all it takes is 3 or 4 (top)players in the skill positions in 1A football to win a championship. Same thing in all the sports, really. 18. If it wasn't Collinwood it was going to be someone else. There has been too much talk for too many years. To blame this whole thing on Collinwoood is just wrong. If they had brought it up and no other public schools agreed with them, then yes, you could call them crybabies. The vote was overwhelmingly to side of a split. Did Collinwood make all those schols vote that way??? No. Our baseball team quit scheduling private schools over 15 years ago. Did we quit becuase they were beating us? NO. It was done becuase we could see then the advantage the private schools had over small rural public schools. I took it that you meant the TSSAA, because you left it to them to prove they were not out to get private schools. Sorry. Why does this irk you so much? Why the hatered towards Collinwood? Are you as irked about other states who have a total split in place or just Tennessee? You ask for reasons, you are given reasons, you reject those reasons. I don't know what else to say. It seems to me, to many these reasons must be valid. Look at the vote. Look at what other states have done. Why did they split? Vendetta, I guess. [Edited by imasoftballer on 3-5-03 2:14P]
  19. Correct me if I'm wrong but the TSSAA has not done anything as of yet, other than taking a vote. I also think that many will agree that Carter is on the non-split side. So, I don't think the TSSAA has a vendetta aginst them, it is the small rural schools that do. And the private schools must be a big problem for the higher classed schools to not want them either. There must be a reason that 3A schools and higher do not want to play little ole private schools. What do you think that reason is? Really. [Edited by imasoftballer on 3-3-03 10:38A]
  20. If you haven't said anything, then I wasn't talking to you. You are right I have not played with Michael, but I did ump a few games he was in. Summerball and Jr. High. Like I said, he has a bad attitude, he almost was ejected by myself in one game, but from what I seen he could play the game. I just want you guys to let the past go and work on this year! Rehashing last year with coach Kinnard and Michael is not helping anything. As a former player I do keep up with the program(even though I can not attend many games)(softball) and wish them only the best. I would love to see some more baseball trophies hanging on the walls of LCHS!
  21. Nothing preceived about it. If I want my daughter to excel at her game(softball) where is the better place to do it? Perry Co. or Ezell? I would think 99% of the people would agree it would be Ezell. Now, to your questions concerning Ezell. No I have notgotten anything from them but I do know of the outside influence that other private schools use. FACT I have seen several post claiming that kids do not go to private schools for athletics. As much as you post on here you have had to of seen them also.
  22. VG what I am saying is... you can not automaticlly take all those kids out of the picture. Some of those kids are getting into private schools. That is a FACT! I never said ALL of them were able to attend private schools.
  23. Michael is a good player. Needs to work on the attitude but the kid has game. He's just a Soph. and has a good arm behind the plate and has a decent eye at the plate. You guys need to quit running down others just becayse you don't like them or their parents.
  24. VG you have always said your piece about magnet schools and open zone schools and I have always agreed with you on the points you make in that regard. But I don't think I have ever heard you say that those same advantages exsist for private schools. Admit they have advantages over small rural private schools, just as I have admitted that open zone schools have advantages over those who do not have such zones.
  25. Many have stated that private schools do not have an athletic requierment for admission. I agree with that statement. In my opinion the athelet/parent picks the school, not the other way around where the school picks the kid. Now, with that said, I do think there are other outside influnces that help that kid with their decision. AAU coaches affiliated with certain schools, coaches associated with other summer program, school alumni, advertising. For people to say that kids do not got to any certain private school for athletics is just a false statement. As a coach and as a parent of two girls I can say that, if I was in the Nashville area and my girls were good enough to play on one of the top private school's softball teams, (Ezell or a couple of others) I would enroll them there. The education and enviroment are pluses but the exposure that they would receive in softball would be the biggest factor in making that decision. I really don't think I am the only parent who thinks this way???? Just look at what some parents do to get their better at the game. People are driving hundreds of miles from in and out of the state to attend ClubK. That is to just take lessons. Do you not think they would do as much for their kids when it comes to playing and getting them exposed to colleges?
