  1. Did Roger start at quarterback his sophomore year? I remember last year that he started the game at QB against us, but moved to running back in the second quarter and had his "breakout game". I couldnt remember who played quaterback the year before though.
  2. I completely agree with you maniac. Mr. Football, in my opinion, should be the epidomy of a high school football player. Someone who plays both ways through injuries and whatever arises throughout the season. While playing against and watching Turner over the last few years, he has rarely played on both sides of the ball and really never played every offensive snap. This may not be by his choice, but it should be considered when talking about the best player in TN , in this case 2A. He is a great player, no doubt about it, and definitely has the greatest potential to perform well on the college and even pro level. However, from what i saw, either Weathers or Rogers would have been a better choice for "high school" player of the year. Seriously, where was Lindsey on this list. The kid has a chance to break the TSSAA record for TDs. Sometimes I wonder who is in charge of this stuff. Whatever though, these are all great players and good luck to Patrick and Austin at the next level.
  3. Congratulations to Roger. He is a class act on the field, and I am sure he is the same off. Great player who did nothing but improve each time that DL faced him. It would have been a joke if anyone else would have gotten this. I hope to see Roger in the Black and Gold.
  4. Alcoa fans and players, congratulations on a fine season and a trip to the State Championship. I believe I speak for the Lipscomb community when I say that your guys deserve to be there. The game was very clean and both sides carried themselves with class. I dont recall having taunted or saying that Lipscomb would dominate in this game. I felt all week as if it would be a battle between two good teams. However, I apologize if I did and congratulations to the Tornadoes. Secondly and most importatnly, I enjoyed playing with many of the seniors on the DL team. Austin, Burton, Ford, and Harley...you guys are great and congratulations on a great 3 years. Austin, good luck at UT and yes, even I, will cheer for you at UT. To Braden, Jamie, and Blake..etc.. good luck. You will be fine in 3A, just keep working hard. Go Stangaroos!
  5. The Lady Cats return a strong nucleus of players, including the 5'8 post player, whats her name? I heard she dominated Karen Dorris last year in the two games with the lady mustangs. Anyways , how far will they make this year? Im thinking at least Sub state!
  6. Bombsquad, I greatly appreciate your initiative to get this thread going again. I will be the first to admit the last one was out of control, but I refrained from jumping in on a large amount of stupidity that was running wild throughout the 18 pages. Anyways, to the game, I have a great respect for the Alcoa program and their 10 State Championships. However, looking at the game, I see no way that Alcoa has gotten 45 points better over one season. It is debatable on the improvement of Lipscomb. In my opinion, I would say Lipscomb is pretty much the same as last year, no better -no worse. Alcoa may have gotten a year more experience, but experience will not close the 6 touchdown gap from a year ago. I pick the Stangs by 21...but Alcoa will come out fired up and play close for the first quarter or so. Go Stangs!
  7. Yea, with all this talk, the two best teams in 2A football over the last ten or so years dont even need to play. I hope these Alcoa and Huntingdon fans can convince over 5 or 6 thousand people who will be in attendance Friday night that this game means nothing.
  8. Its really hard to tell how DL will matchup with the west IF they are fortunate enough to get there. In 02, DL was an underdog and dominated Mitchell. Last year was just the opposite. So I would say, I hope we get to see how we matchup because that will mean 3 straight trips to the Boro which doensnt happen too often. We too are looking forward to the move to 3A to join some great class act programs.
  9. I have a feeling the other three games will be....Goodpasture, McGavock, and hopefully Greenbrier. It is definitely a harder schedule thats why many DL fans are looking forward to it.
  10. Fatcat, I want to commed you for a very well written post. This game between DL and GB does nothing but make both teams better, and I hope it continues.
  11. You are correct my friend. I just noticed that on the DL website right before you posted that. I guess that was a jab at the Mustangfanpage....but I see no need to do that. A great group of parents just trying to provide information and publicity for the program. Call it what you want, but it would be nice if every school had a website like it. Thanks, we will need to play a great game to beat the Cougars. Also, good luck to the Bobcats, and I , too, hope that the DL-GB series will continue because it allows both teams to see what they have early in the season and get things corrected. Two great coaches and programs.
  12. I, as a DL fan and alumnus, apologize if I "trashed" a new fellow region school. The point that I was trying to get across is that I think that DL has a great chance to be sucessful at the 3A level, and I seemed to get attacked for thinking so. I will not take that comment back, DL will not only survive, but thrive in 3A football. That confidence lies within the coaching staff and great work ethic of the Lipscomb players. In no way do I want to trash another school, I just dont understand how you can sit here and think DL is over their head in 3A football. We did not request to be moved to 3A football so I think you are the ones who need to speak with Mr. Carter. But for now, DL will focus on Goodpasture, Greenbrier on Southside...and we will look forward to some great games next year. Like I have stated at least 2 times now, I think every week will be a battle next year for the Mustangs, but we are looking forward to a new challenge.
  13. Thanks for the welcome. Would this be the same 3A that Greenbrier made it to the semifinals in last year after DL handled them by 22 points on their own field?
  14. Refer to the great Bobby Knight's interview on Game Faces. Enough said.
  15. First....Goodpasture...both teams are still wanting to play this game yearly, and I have no doubts that this will work out...STRIKE ONE Second.....East Robertson....45-0,42-0,42-20,35-14,42-20 (last 5 meetings)...I guess you are kind of right ...glad to get away from ER the games are too boring...Foul Tip Third....Greenbrier.....not sure we need to start this again..but one win over the Mustangs in school history...believe me DL is terrified......Strike Three Walk, Walk, Walk.......Sit Down
  16. Bulldog69, I apologize if I offended you for thinking that DL will be one of the top 2 teams in the Region. I am by no means guaranteeing that because it will be a battle each week. I just have a great deal of confidence in our coaching staff that they will have this team ready to play these teams. No, DL should not be playing with the privates. They have won two state championships in 2A football so you mighty 3A teams shouldnt even be worried about them. We are scared to play teams "North of Madison" anyways.
  17. Krakatoa, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this thread is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
  18. I agree with you on that. It will be a different ballgame, but, truly, most Lipscomb supporters I have talked to are looking forward to it. They are looking to be challenged on a more frequent basis. I would expect no less than a top 2 finish in that region for DL next year.
  19. As a David Lipscomb supporter, I would say that this region looks favorable for the Mustangs. Although to me, it makes no sense for DL and Pearl Cohn not to play. They played a few years back and had two classic games with Lipscomb taking both contests. DL has been accustomed to playing Marshall Co., and if I'm not mistaken, we used to play Page pretty often in the early 90's. I like the Mustangs chances in the new region as it will definitely provide some excitement for the DL fans who have blown out everyone but GP in region 4-2A.
  20. Ask Mr. Walsh what he thought about the crowd in Memorial last year. A packed house of 14,200 in his ear the whole night while the Commodores routed the Gators. No, it does not compare to the old days, but the magic is beginning to return to Memorial.
  21. No, I dont recall Lipscomb saying that at all. But anyway, I am not sure why you take a jab at DL when Alcoa fans were the ones who started this pointless thread anyway. This is a joke. Lipscomb is playing Goodpasture, come on the best rivalry in 2A football, and people are talking about a game that we dont even know will happen. We all realze Huntingdon won the game last year, and once again that means nothing this year. They went to the Boro and won the gold ball(woo hoo), if I remember correctly the year before Lipscomb was an underdog in every game of the playoffs except the first round. They went on to defeat the almighty Memphis Mitchell in a trouncing. None of that matters now. Lets play this week first and then we will talk 4th round action, deal?
  22. Your are exactly right. If I had a dollar for every time I heard how out-athleted we were over the two years I played at David Lipscomb, then I would be a rich man. People are quick to underestimate discipline, coaching, and team unity(not saying JSS doesnt have that). However, having played against Greenbrier the last two years and watching the game against DL this year, I know for a fact they have all of those things. Also, Mr. Herndon is quite the athlete himself along with several others from Greenbrier. I dont know much about JSS, but I would be surprised not to see Greenbrier in the Boro come the first week of December.
  23. I would like to commend The Mustangfanpage Staff for a job well done. The site has done nothing but improve over the last two years, and it is a pleasure to view. Does anyone have any info on the guest Titan of the week? If so could you please pass that along to the rest of us. I did hear that O'Donnel made a brief appearance Friday night but, since he is no longer with the Titans, he could not afford the $7 and was caught jumping the baseball field fence by Lipscomb's finest. Now, to the game, how was Goodpasture able to put up 48 points on Tyner? Was it by virtue of big plays and turnovers , or was Goodpasure just that superior to the Ram Train? DL has not been tested since the first encounter with Goodpasture, but that has been the case the last couple years heading into the playoffs so i dont think that will be a factor. Fatigue, in my opinion, doesnt play a role in these emotion packed games. Both teams will be flying around the field, fighting for their playoff lives for all 48 minutes. I am looking forward to this showdown and all that comes with this rivalry game. What do we.....wait cant do that anymore ...what am i thinking?
  24. Thanks, for informing us that this will be a good game. I would have never guessed that if you wouldnt have said so. Anyways having not seen Goodpasture play since the first DL game it is impossible for me to judge their improvement. The key to this game will be how many touches Turner can get for the Cougars. With Rogers at running back and on defense, he is a bigger factor in the game than is Turner(therefore, more deserving of Mr. Football). If the Cougars can get him rolling though, it could be a rough night for DL. I dont know what the outcome will be, but what we all do know thanks to GBT57 is that this will be a "good game".
  25. 2003- David Lipscomb vs Goodpasture DL wins 38-35 on probably the craziest 4th quarter of football that I have ever witnessed. Cutler Robertson the Mustangs running back connected on a 35 yard field goal as time expired, and the Mustang students stormed the field as the Stangs capped off a 4th quarter comeback. The CSS telecast added to the environment of a classic night at the Reese Smith Athletic Complex. Austin Rogers established himself in the game as a big time player as he ran by Goodpasture defenders all night long. The crowd was probably the biggest in Lipscomb history as I would say there were well over 5,000 in the house.
