  1. If we keep it that close, that'll be a plus for us...lol
  2. I love coming to this board and reading sometimes, but some of this bs is hilarious. First of all, GC plays EVERYONE in scrimmages. "They won state that year, what does that tell you". It tells me that we have trophies in our case that were won on the field. I don't need to defend our record, or who we've played. For the person saying we would get what Central got last Friday night, if you're comparing GC's football program to Central you're an absolute idiot. First of all, we don't have 1900 students. We have 680 (give or take). We have 50+ kids on our team that will play 110% EVERY Friday night. Gate City has never ducked Dobyns-Bennett or anyone else. Take a look at our schedule this year and do a history lesson of the programs on there. After years of coming to this board, it amazes me that every thread you read about South, there are DB folks here trying to stir the pot. Now back to the subject of South and GC. The town of Gate City is very ready for the game this week. You can expect 10,000 there next Friday night, I have no doubt. The kids will give it all they have and we'll be proud of them regardless. I'm extremely biased and proud, but the folks coming to this game will see one of the best atmosphere's in high school football. I promise you, it'll be the best $5 you've spent in your life. I hope for a very safe and respectful game from both communities. As big as this game is to our program, the following week is much more important in the long run. I understand some of the folks from Knoxville are coming up this week. I hope they have a safe trip and enjoy the game.
  3. It's going to be difficult for GC to handle them. We faced the spread last week, and will see it again this week. However, Richlands and Tazewell don't run it as well as South. It's going to be great having them visit our place regardless of the outcome. Just so I'm not guilty of hijacking this thread, I've seen South a couple of times in pre-season but was wondering what Boone has.
  4. Good luck Rebs. If nothing happens we'll see you folks next week.
  5. Sounds like it was a great game. Congrats to the Rebs.
  6. Out of respect for the family, I hope WVLT takes the video down of his collapsing. Personally I don't think that needs to be broadcasted.
  7. Just got home from our Jamboree, and I honestly don't know what to say. This is very saddening. The Gate City folks will keep this young man's family in our thoughts and prayers, as well as the whole SSHS family.
  8. GC has alot to work on, but it wasn't too shabby considering they haven't seen competition since last November. It's good that the entire team got plenty of playing time. Good luck to the Falcons.
  9. South looked pretty solid. Powell was pretty overmatched at all areas. I was impressed by Garvin and Phillips. Also #2 (not sure of his name) was impressive. He looked like 5 feet of rock. #7 seems to have a pretty strong arm also. Good luck this season (except for Sept 11)....lol
  10. We're young in some spots but I think we'll be ok. Our first scrimmage isn't until next Wednesday at Volunteer so hopefully we can tell more then. Our schedule may be our downfall this year. Ten straight weeks and the 2nd toughest schedule in their classification doesn't add well. Hopefully both teams will be at full strength. I usually hit the local schools this time of year if they're playing on a night different than ours. I'm hoping to make it to Tennessee High Friday to see them and Powell Valley. I agree with being proud of your school and the kids. It's all about them, but that seems to get lost with alot of people. Good luck to you guys.......except for September 11th....lol
  11. Where do you guys scrimmage Powell? I'd like to come check that out if it's at home.
  12. Looking forward to our scrimmage with you guys next Wednesday. It'll be nice for the kids to hit somebody other than themselves....lol
  13. We scrimmaged South a couple of times in years past. This is a different South bunch though. They have a very good coaching staff in place now. We've played them in other sports in recent years also. I look for a huge crowd at both games. Hopefully it'll be competitive and we can keep the series going. For whoever said it's a no win situation for South, we played Central and Tennessee High for a few years and competed quite well. Don't sell us short just yet. GC will give 100%, as will South. I look forward to it.
  14. I'll post the roster below. You'll see it's the truth, not an "excuse". I'm assuming you can read a roster. 15. How many starters does South lose next season? Our offense will all but be gone, with the exception of a couple. I think defensively we'll return 7 or so.
  16. I don't think it will be much of contest next year, considering what we're losing. This would've been a very good year to play it.
  17. I can read a map good enough to know that Maryville and Alcoa have NEVER been classified as Northeast Tennessee and never will be. GC played Tennessee High for 5 years and won 4 of those. You have over 1000 students and got rolled by a school with a little over 300 and you say SW Virginia football is a joke?
  18. The only "top" team in NE Tennessee is Dobyns-Bennett and will be the majority of years. You're comparing a city of 20,000+ to a town of 1,500-2,000. Clintwood played their tails off to make it to the state championship game last year and deserved it. For you to say SWVA football is a joke, is showing your youth. There have been some tremendous athletes that have came from the small towns of SWVA. I'd worry about Daniel Boone, Bell County, and Greeneville before I'd say anything about "jokes".
  19. Clintwood has everyone back from last year. Volunteer could be in for a rough night.
  20. Ron did Volunteer's writeup. Volunteer scored once on our first team, second, and third. He was on GC's sideline the majority for the night, writing about Volunteer.........which doesn't make sense but it doesn't matter either way.....it was still football and I enjoyed it.
  21. For those that have matured and actually care, the scrimmage starts at 6 at Legion Field.
  22. A guy from PV told me that Malcolm is at DB and living with his dad and Myron's still in Big Stone and living with his grandmother.
