  1. sleep23, I don't know what kind of speed you guys have, but I think that is the one thing that probably seperates Greenbrier from SC. We have EXCELLENT team speed at all positions. Our defensive backs all run between 4.5 and 4.6 40's. That is what enabled us to play with and beat our last two opponents. Minus that speed, we probably get eliminated in the Quarterfinals. So, I feel we have the opportunity to stick with Fulton in that category. I expect one heck of a football game!!!
  2. Oh, you and I both know that! And I feel very confident in my heart that, although it will be a close game, these guys will find the way to win. thumb I know you weren't "disrespecting" anybody! But, you know how us Greenbrier folks are.....we try to keep it low key!
  3. DISCLAIMER: For all you Fulton fans.....Bulldog69 is NOT a Greenbrier fan. He is a Page High School fan and they are in our region. He is just supporting our team, of course which we appreciate! (No offense Bulldog)
  4. I have to give a nomination to Kirk Williams and the entire Greenbrier coaching staff. Yes, Greenbrier is a senior-laden team that is very talented. But, they are not perfect. This coaching staff has taken a great group of kids and put what I would call "the finishing touches" on them to make them successful. This group of kids keeps their composure when things aren't going well. This group of kids plays with class. They play with heart. They don't let having 3 or 4 starters out with injuries drag them down. That is a DIRECT reflection of the head coach. I would venture to say that without the mentoring and preparation done by this coach and his staff, the Bobcats would not be where they are today! There are so many intangibles that this coaching staff has beyond X's and O's that make a HUGE, HUGE difference for this ball team.
  5. That is what I figured. My take is that the sign was related to the football game and the people involved. Of course it stung the folks from SC and MC. It hurts when the best teams in your region get beat two years in a row by the same team. And, the sign was like rubbing salt in the wound. BUT, since it was made BEFORE the game even started, I don't see that being bad. Because, had SC won, the signmaker would have looked foolish! I am all for that kind of stuff. I would probably not have liked it either if we got smoked the way they did. But, not liking it doesn't make it "classless". Great season SC and looking forward to seeing you guys from Fulton.
  6. Antwan, don't get me wrong. I was rootin' for SC in this game. I was hoping we would have had a Middle TN showdown for the 3A Title. But, it doesn't look like it was meant to be. I was sitting next to COACHHARD during the game and he said he was talkin' to you about scores. I was just makin' my comments based on what I've seen put on here. Most of the SC fans seem like they are taking it for what it was....a tough loss to a good school. But, there was one individual who was making a lot of noise on here and really blasting a good group of Fulton folks who didn't seem to deserve it. I am sure they will have some sign for us, but who knows. I bet they made the sign they did because of all the smack talk on here from Macon Co. last year and from Smith Co. this year. When you talk big, you have to be ready to take it. Fulton did something to get y'all's "goat" and it seems to have worked. Seems like both sets of fans have a hard time losing to the Knoxville crowd more than other teams for some reason!
  7. What is classless about this?!? I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. It was not derogatory other than to say they were going to beat you. Maybe it was a little tacky, but that is not CLASSLESS! Antwan, your comment about that sign is all I was referring to. I think it is actually quite funny. And, heck, they backed it up. Sounds like to me those who think it is classless are the ones who are having a harder time accepting those defeats! AND, they made the sign BEFORE the game. So, if SC had come out and beat them, they could have made the Fulton fans look foolish for making that sign. BUT, they didn't. So, good for Fulton. I don't think it was anything personal.....just some zealous fans that got pumped up before the game. Probably a bunch of their students put it together. What else would you expect?!?!?
  8. I am sure that Chris Wooden would gladly have that Gold Ball over any Mr. Football nomination!
  9. formerFHSplaya04, I agree with you. I doubt that either team with score over 21. I expect it to be more like our game against Kingsbury.....a 14 - 13 score or something like that. Should be a GREAT ONE!
  10. Yeah, if I had to guess, I'd say we had about 1500 people at the game. I am basing that on the fact their visitor bleachers seemed to be a little bigger than our home bleachers and we had them PACKED! I was completely IN AWE of the crowd! Way to go Greenbrier! Now, let's triple that for the Championship Game!
  11. I look forward to our guys meeting Fulton next week in "the 'Boro". I think it will be an outstanding game. Unlike Smith Co., Greenbrier does have a lot of speed and can cover tall and fast receivers. Just ask Jackson Southside and Kingsbury. We also play the run very well. Sounds like it should be a defensive struggle for the Gold Ball. I'm looking forward to a great game between two great teams! Also, I am surprised to see some of the Greenbrier faithful getting caught up in "the smack" on here. Guys, I seriously doubt Fulton is overlooking the #2 ranked team in the state that has already beaten two well-coached, very athletic, and disciplined ball teams. All they have to do is watch our game tape and they know they will be in for a dog fight. And, all we have to do is watch their game film to see we will be in for a dog fight. I fully expect it to be one heck of a "headknocker" that will come down to the final minutes just like our last two games. I don't think focus is an issue any more. Nothing else ahead except this one game to lose focus on. I could see on their faces last night that they were already thinking about one more win instead of "just making it there"! GO BOBCATS!
  12. I have to admit, as a neutral observer it seems as if the Smith Co. folks (mainly rocking chair) have been the classless, sore losers in this affair. I see nothing wrong with the sign that Fulton put up. If you didn't like it, you should have done something on the football field about it. Sounds as if Fulton is very well coached and a pretty disciplined team. That probably had as much to do with their victory as did their speed. Just a guess. Usually, people consider the team that turns the ball over more and has more penalties to be the team that is not as well coached and not as disciplined. It may have been an abberition in this game, but looks like Fulton played disciplined ball and are well coached. Rocking Chair, your comments on here are nothing but sour grapes (and even some of yours Antwan). GO BOBCATS!
  13. Excellent find there, greenbriercat2! Wow, sounds like we have two very similiar teams playing each other. They seem to be a senior laden team that has been playing together for many years and have a lot of heart and team cohesion. I think that will make for one heck of a knock-down, drag-out football game. What do you bet that the game comes down to the final minute?! LET'S GO CATS!
  14. I am not surprised by this thread at all. And, ELA, I quoted what I did above because that is the one thing as an outsider that I have noticed he was not...PROFESSIONAL. I am making my comments based on what happened after the first time Greenbrier and Marshall Co. played each other this season, a 23 - 13 victory for Greenbrier. My wife and I were SHOCKED at the way he spoke to and treated his players after the game. He blessed them out right in the middle of our field (with some choice words) for everyone in the stadium to hear and just stormed off saying he was disgusted with them. His actions were far from professional. And this, mind you, was after MC had played one heck of a football game. Most of us on the Greenbrier side felt MC had played very well and gave us one heck of a fight down to the end. Then, to see him chastise them publicly like that and walk off on them.....that was PURE BUSH LEAGUE! Then, when Greenbrier and MC played in the 2d round of the playoffs, Coach Mac lost complete and utter control of himself on what was admittedly a very bad call. Greenbrier was awarded a 20-yard catch on a play where the receiver clearly never had control. He called a time out and went racing across the field to argue. The white hat had to stop him at the far hash. He was yelling wildly at the official who made the call....way beyond what is a reasonable disagreement by a professional coach. He lost utter control. He started yelling and pointing at the ref on the far side who made the call.....seemed like he was threatening him. Anyway, his complete loss of composure helped turn what was a very close 7 - 0 game in the second half into a 35 - 0 mauling. His players followed his lead and lost their discipline the rest of the game. So, based on the two times I have seen Coach Mac this season, I am not at all surprised by what is happening. I don't know his past....I have always been told how great he is. But, it appears he doesn't know how to lose after enduring a 5 - 6 season last year and a 6 - 6 season this year. That is what is truly sad here. He can handle success, but he doesn't seem to be able to handle failure and has to take it all out on his players and others instead of looking in the mirror! Maybe this is just an abberition in his long history. Maybe this is the exception rather than the rule. I don't know. I am not there everyday. But, based on seeing him twice this year, I wasn't left with a good impression.
  15. I'd love to hear from some Kingsbury fans or anyone who knows anything about Kingsbury.....maybe some Covington or Ripley folks. I had never heard of Kingsbury before this year. Do they have a good tradition or are they a one-year wonder? What style football do they play? Etc., etc., etc.
  16. Sorry, but I HAVE to say it! Hillwood should be ASHAMED letting a 3A school like White House embarrass a 5A school like that! Great job WH. Looks like we will be playing only a couple of miles apart. I think we will be playing at the fairgrounds which is only a couple of miles from Melrose. And, with Franklin travelling to Germantown, we are going to have three convoys heading to Memphis Friday. Let's show 'em how Middle TN plays football!
  17. Okay, time to start this thread. My first question is where will the game be played? From what I have been able to research, it doesn't appear that Kingsbury has their own football field. I saw that they played at the fairgrounds against Covington and I am assuming we will play them there. Is the fairgrounds the "Liberty Bowl" stadium? Also, don't know much about Kingsbury other than they must be pretty good. Looking forward to the trip and the game.
  18. Another great example of the class of the folks from JSS. I was very impressed with their team's discipline during the game and class after the game. And, reading the article in the paper shows where they get it from.....their head coach. JSS, keep that up and you guys have a great future. Good luck next year!
  19. AlcoaBoi, Are you ignorant, or what? AE had a student population of 783 back in 2000. That puts them smack-dab in the middle of 3A. That FORCED them to move up to 3A. They DID NOT have a choice. Their current student population is now 781, which again puts them dead-smack in the middle of the 3A schools, AGAIN. They are not allowed to play in 2A football!
  20. Yes, Greenbrier is #2 in the state.....but that doesn't make them the favorite. Most of these reporters are really clueless about which teams are any good. Greenbrier got a lot of attention because they are in the Nashville area and beat David Lipscomb early in the season. That put them on the "radar" and they have been fortune to only lose one game. To prove my point about the pollsters being clueless, look at Covington. They haven't even received any votes for the Top 10, much less be in the Top 10. Are you going to tell me they aren't a Top 5 team at a minimum??? These pollsters look mostly at a team's record. But, Covington's 3 losses have come to 2 5A schools and 1 4A school. And, they played all three of those very close. In my mind, they are the defending Western-half Champs and are the favorite to go back to Murfreesboro until someone knocks them off. So, yes, having the high ranking is nice......but it doesn't mean squat.
  21. VolGen, Funny you should mention that about JSS. I was thinking the EXACT same thing about Greenbrier. The one constant this team has had all year has been their defense. The offense has come and gone, but the defense has been lights out (except for the whoopin' we took at White House). I expect a low scoring affair between these two Friday night. But, at least he is right about who wins!
  22. Ooooops, my mistake. I have gone back and corrected it. It should have always said Hillwood!
  23. I wasn't sure how it was going to end up, but no matter how they sliced it I figured GB and WH would be in the same region. The biggest shock to me is them splitting up Cheatham Co. and Sycamore. I would have that those two would have been in a region together. I say they ought to move DL into our region and send Sycamore back to Region 5. That would be one doosy of a region battle, then! Anyway......good luck against the 5A Hillwood Hilltoppers!
  24. UThater, You have me wrong. I am rooting for WH in this one and think they will win. I was actually trying to point out how good your team is compared to Hillwood since you guys actually have a much smaller enrollment. And, when you do beat them....they should feel that much worse because of the 3A/5A thing.
  25. I would expect Covington to win by 10 - 14 points. See you guys in Covington on the 26th!
