  1. 1st off, the periodic arguments about Central recruiting or Maryville buying tuition students gets old. Let's play the game. As far as the student populations in this area, Central had been at 1100-1200 students for a while. At the start of 04-05, 200 kids showed up the 1st day that were not expected. It pushed the enrollment to about 1425. I think it is still around that 1400 area. The school is pretty full. There is still several areas of significant growth that will impact the enrollment at CHS. Summer Rose subdivision and more significantly, Sterchi Hills subdivision. When Sterchi Hills is done, it is supposed to be the largest subdivision in Knox Co. Powell has room to grow as do the Halls/Gibbs areas. Housing starts in North Knox are actually more than the housing starts in West Knox. Its easy to see that at some time in the next 20 years, some hard decisions on zoning and schools will have to be made for this area. I'm not sure how much more room Halls HS and Powell HS have. Gibbs HS is already being expanded. I think it has been stated that Maryville will move to 5a in 3 years. I believe that West HS is the 2nd largest school in this region. I don't know if they are growing or not. It will also depend on where the TSSAA sets the enrollment limits as to if Central or West would move to 5a as well. Personally, unless there is a big difference in enrollments, I think Central, Halls and Powell ought to be in the same class and playing each other in everything. It's too bad that Oak Ridge is not in the same classification as CHS, PHS and HHS. They are in the same districts in the rest of the sports and they are a more natural rival. I would also like to see Anderson Co HS in this region. I think they would add a lot.
  2. my question for you is--how many students are at Clinton? If they fall into the category of a 4a school, they gotta play in a 4a region. These classifications are set up on student enrollment, not level of play. It might be better to stay in 4a and move the school to region 1. The only problem would be the long commute
  3. rebelman16--please read where it says they all get breaks. As far as the Dbacks that don't play on O, there just isn't room for them in the reciever rotation as the Cats go 6 deep there. I would doubt that Zach misses this game. I really don't know the extent of the injury, but knowing him, you'd have to strap him down like Hannibal Lecter to keep him off the field. I would think it is a possibilty that he doesn't play safety, though. Just a guess. Anybody know the weather forcast for Friday. It would be a shame to play this game in a monsoon.
  4. I will HTV--it would be good to meet the ya. I've shaken hands with Rob. As far as the Maryville guys, I'll have to check my shot records and get back to you on that one .
  5. yep Lonas Seiber was offered a scholly and he accepted. He is the 2nd kicker they have taken this year. He has an unbelievable leg. He has been injured part of the year, but with time and coaching at the college level, he has a bright future.
  6. Okay-enough. Reb Nation, we're buddies, but to think that Central is not an elite 4A school is not right. I'll give Maryville all the props in the world. They have been the best 4a school in the state over the last several years. NO doubt!! Keep in mind that Central did play for a state title a few years ago. But to say that Central is not in the class of schools you mentioned is nuts. Please, the Cats couldn't play with Huntingdon, AE, Fulton or Alcoa? Those schools have recently played in or won a title in their division. They are good programs with lots of success. You don't think that Central could beat any of those? Come on. Central, as is Maryville, MoWest, Hillsboro, Melrose, Memphis East and JCM at the top of the food chain in 4A. Check the records. You could drop any of those schools in any 5A region and they are all regular playoff teams. I will agree that Central needs to win some to make this rivalry closer. FBE, as far as the scores of the regular season games vs the playoff games, it is usually the playoff games that have the closer scores. Most of the games in the playoffs have been very close, while there have been a couple of lopsided regular season games. Last year was a prime example, with Maryville winning easily in the regular season, and the playoff game going down to the last minute. Also, you keep saying that Central plays a bunch of kids both ways. Just to let you know, that statement needs some clarification. The kids on the O line, just play on the O line. The only time that Crowder or Gaddis play on the D line is when they want to get bigger in short yardage situations. Crowder may play 4-5 snaps on D. Dyer plays at FB and DE but not to the point that he doesn't come out of the game. Central has many offensive sets and there are many series when he is not in. They also rotate him in and out on D. The same thing applies to Nance. Adkins, Cruze, Helton, Waddell and Gaston rotate around as Dbacks or safties. They all get breaks. Central is very deep at reciever, so they have even more players at that position to share the load. This is going to be a heck of game Friday nite. Also, congrats to Lonas Seiber on his scholly to UT.
  7. and a 3rd....right pepvol. Actually, I had just come back from the UT game and my BP was probably 300 over 200. No harm meant. Lots of respect for GQ.
  8. Rebel9--making a stupid statement like that, then not willing to back it up makes it worthless. Coach Helton is one of the best in the state and his record will back it up. Every coach adjusts as the game goes on. Sometimes they work out for the best and every once in while, they don't. Even the patron saint of Maryville makes a bad call during a game. If you have something to say, then say it.
  9. Personally, I think Julian is a very good defensive coach. And Zcar made a nice point that Halls will be an unknown next year in many aspects. Depending on the sophmores to be big playmakers is a week to week thing. What it does bode well for is the future. The following 2 years could be good ones for the Devils if everybody stays at Halls. As far as the region goes, Maryville will be awfully strong on offense and they will be good on D. Not as good as this year, but still very tough. Yes, Central loses a lot of well known names, but they also have a lot of very talented kids returning. On D the biggest losses will be Longworth and Nance, but the D line will return and they have plenty of kids that can play in the secondary. On O, Jamie Wilson will be the tailback, and he will be special. Kirkland and Nelson will be very good recievers. The O line will be a huge concern. I wouldn't see the Cats slipping past 2nd. Like everyone, I think West will be better next year. They will be hard to play against. Powell losses a lot of very talented kids. To me, they will also be somewhat of an unknown. I think if Halls can get a couple of early season wins in the region, they will be in the playoffs. But the 1st region game is Halls/Central and I think the Cats have many more experienced players returning and with it being early, the advantage goes to Central. If this was later in the year, it may be different. Good luck next year.
  10. While Red Bank has some outstanding defensive stats, they have not played near the schedule that Central has. Central also has an outstanding D and a better offense tested against better opponents. Last year when we played them, there were not a whole lot of Red Bank fans in the stands, so that really negates the home field advantage. I think Central is the solid favorite in this one. Now, this is the playoffs and anything can happen. Red Bank is obviously a good team, so Central will have to play well. I think they will. Go Cats!!!!!!!!!!
  11. 03--couldn't agree with you less. The Cats will be ready. Rhea Co played their game of the year and still didn't win. Central by 14-17.
  12. C'mon HTV--no love for your northside buddies in Ftn City
  13. rcge 5--the Central fans have done nothing but praise the Golden Eagles for their efforts last Friday. We did have some issues with the zebras. If RC can play that well on a regular basis next year, they will be tough to handle. Good luck to you guys next year.
  14. Jet Pride--when is the new HS going to open? Also, how is it going to effect the enrollment of Cumberland Co HS? What classification is the new school going to be in and will Cumberland Co High drop down in classification? Just curious.
  15. I think this will be a very good game. I was really surprised by the score of the 1st game, but a bunch of turnovers against the Rebs will do that to ya. It sounds like Powell played well against Hixson last week. If the Panthers can get on a roll and they play as a team and spread the offensive work, they can make life miserable for Maryville. On D, the Powell linebackers are going to have to have great games. Are both teams healthy? Are Tallent and Baker both nursing some dings? Maryville is very deep, but if they don't have those guys, it will be hard to get past Powell or possibly Central. Good luck to both. Should be one heck of a game to be at.
  16. Zcar--thanks for the info. I wish Halls had won, too. That would have been fun. It sounds like Red Bank has a good young team that is not too dissimiliar to Central. What I remember from last year is they really didn't do anything that the Cats couldn't handle. Central got up on them big early and the game just kinda stalled. Blair had a huge game. I think he broke the sack record for a single game. If RB is going 4 wide out of the shotgun with quick routes, that will cut down on the sacks. I think our linebackers do a nice job in coverage and hopefully our dbacks can handle their wide recievers 1 on 1. If their QB is a soph, it may be possible to rattle him if our dline can get to him a couple of times. On offense, I think our line does a very good job in run blocking. Gaston had a great game last week. If they like to clog the middle, it sounds like sweeps and options may be the ticket. Also some screens and passes in the flat to the Cats WRs. Central is an experienced team and they have played a very good schedule. Penalties and losing focus last week almost cost them the game. If we don't turn the ball over and can jump on them early, like last year, the Cats could win big. But if penalties and errors hit hard, this could be very close. I like the Bobcats by 14 to 17 points. Let's hope the refs are not from Motown, again .
  17. Even though Central played RB last year, a team can change a lot, so I'm not sure what they really have. I would be interested in some input from some of the region 4 folks. Maybe a breakdown on the team.
  18. Congrats to the Red Devils on a great year. Coach Julian did a very good job this season. Probably should be coach of the year in the region. It is good to get Halls back to being a competitive team again as it only makes the region stronger. Halls has a nice tradition and I hope the team can build on this season for the future.
  19. bigin-- To not see what was obvious is looking thru Rhea Co colored glasses. I am not saying that Central did not commit some penalties. They did. As did RC. And the refs are not from the Knoxville area. In the playoffs the TSSAA assigns refs from another area to do the games. I have every right to comment on the refs win, lose or draw. If you don't like it, tough. You sound disappointed and you have every right to be. RC played well and with a lot of heart. They have a good team. That is a hard way to lose a game. Even the radio announcers, which are not Central radio people, but the Knoxville sports talk station, were commenting on the calls mentioned. Nobody is taking anything away from RC, which seems to be your point. Hammontree is a good coach and RC will use this season and this game to build on for next year. Region 4 teams better be ready for them. Pigskin--thanks and yours played very well last nite.
  20. 1st off, congrats to the Eagles on a great game. They played very well. Their passing game is tough to handle and the QB is excellent. They played very smart and had Central on the ropes after the Cats got up 28-7 early in the 4th. They are a young team and I would expect to see them be a very highly regarded team next year. To the kicker who missed the extra point that would have tied it, keep your head up. I'm sure your teammates support you. As for Central, they better play much smarter than what they did. Turning the ball over 3 times in the other teams end kills you. Central could have put this one away early if they score on 1 or 2 of those. Gaston had an incredible game. Over 230 yards rushing. I was glad to see Coach Helton commit to the running game. We need to do that more. Our defense had their hands full tonite. At times (the 3rd Quarter) they looked good. Rhea Co ran great routes and the QB was accurate. I don't think we will see a team that passes the ball that well again. Our D ends need to be more disciplined when rushing. Many times Blair ran right by the QB and the tackle for RC just guided him that way. On the quick pitches, our ends took themselves right out of the play and RC had some nice runs on those. I'm not sure where the guys in stripes came from, but they were horrible. It was called very one sided after Central got up. It is tough to beat a good team and the zebras. The play where Gaston was called for a fumble with just over a minute to go was awful. His progress was obviously stopped. The catch that Cruze made in the endzone that was called incomplete was another example. As the saying goes, survive and advance. I don't think we had any injuries to hamper us for next week. Congrats to the Cats and thanks for the heart palpatations . Looks like a road trip to Chattown next Friday for a rematch of last year's game.
  21. They have also had the hardest schedule in this area to play. Many of the games they lost were close. I'm sure that everybody with the Powell program is not satisfied with the record, but all those still standing are 0-0 right now. With the schedule they have faced, they are ready for the playoffs. I think Powell wins this one, if everybody is healthy, by a comfortable margin. I really do think region 3 will sweep. Maryville and Central shouldn't have too many problems with their foes. Powell will probably win by a couple of TDs. The Halls/Red Bank game will be close, but I think Halls is used to playing against teams like Red Bank that are pretty athletic (ie, Central, West, Maryville), so they will be able to handle that. Should be an interesting nite. I hope that score updates are frequent.
  22. Maryville needs to play them one at a time, just like everybody else.
  23. Bell Co is a smaller school, but 3a in KY is the 2nd largest class in the public schools and they are an annual title contender. Central also defeated 2 5a schools, Farragut and Bearden, who are in the playoffs. Central defeated a total of 5 teams that are in the playoffs somewhere .
  24. bigin52--your info is wrong. Where did you get it??? Total losses for region 3 is 37. Total losses for region 4 is 44. The bottom 3 schools in region 3 were a combined 7-23. Also, Central defeated a 8-2 5a Farragut, 7-3 Halls, 6-4 Powell and a highly rated 3a Bell Co, KY team. I'm not sure of their record. On the computer polls, region 3-4a is the toughest in the state in the public schools. All this is moot. The game Friday at Central will decide who is the better team. Good luck to the Eagles.
  25. Zcar--another good site is unapproved website.com. They do a big listing of ratings. Region 3-4a was listed as the top public school region in the state. They were 2nd behind the Super 7 division overall. I think Halls will do well this Friday. I would really be surprised if they didn't win. You have played a tough schedule and are ready for the playoffs. I was also kinda surprised that more people are not picking Halls on the Big Ones contest (I did). Good luck this Friday and if everything works out, we'll see you next Friday in Ftn City.
