  1. Inability to pass will be their problem. I don’t know if their QB has a good arm but they have a big tight end with good hands; his brother is at UT. They're going to have to be able to pass to make it all the way. On the other hand, I know Charlie White & I played against Germantown in the late 80's. They are ALWAYS a well-coached team. Also, they have a good punter which will help in close games.
  2. Germantown has a good punter. of course, i wouldn't know in game time since he never had to punt against Collierville but once. In warmups he looked good & his one punt was really good. he's #5.

i don't know if the boosters have the stones to do that knowing they won't get backing from the principal. plus the head coach has been there 28 years & is the 2nd winningest coach in Shelby Co. Of course if your nonconference opponents are weak, who couldn't win in 28 years? a better gauge is their playoff record since 5A ball started. they have only won 1 playoff game since 5A began. supposedly some of the asst coaches are fed up.

My nephew is the Collierville QB & another nephew was all-state in 2000. My wife & I live just north of town. First off, it has seemed to me that the town is overstaffed on police. I affectionately call them the Gestapo. There are actually ritzier homes & more stringent nazi-style sign ordinances in Germantown, our neighbor to the west. The specifics of why Collierville High football does not resemble Germantown, or Franklin? They have had plenty of good athletes. Two problems: 1) coaching is abhorrent, & 2) the principal doesn't give a flip about sports. There are THREE coaches on staff, get this, that have NEVER played football. One being the receivers/db coach. The head coach is very predictable & doesn't put the ball in the hands of his best athlete enough. They never change anything they do, offense or defense. Against Bolton, Collierville was ahead with BHS pinned inside their own 5 with less than two minutes to go & Bolton had one timeout. What does Collierville do? Play the SAME defense, a split-4 with THREE db's! I've seen a practice, it's terrible. They practice no tackling nor blocking drills, zero contact; and it shows.
  5. First off, hats off to Bolton. They did all the things they needed to do to win & played very hard. However, on 4th & forever on their own 30ish with about 30 seconds left, a Bolton receiver runs over the db & the db gets called for interference. It may have been the worst call I've seen all year. The official on the spot didn't throw the flag, it was thrown from one from behind the receiver. If anything, it should have been offensive pass interference. It was so bad I'd send the film to the TSSAA. BUT, Collierville still had plenty of chances. Their pass defense is terrible, not the kids fault, they're not coached well. Bolton goes 95 yards in less than two minutes with only one timeout. You'd think Collierville would play with at least 5 db's, & even 6 as time was running down. NOPE. same split-4 with only 3 db's. AND the olb's are acting like they're worried about the run. If you're gonna play with that defense, at least put them out on the receivers to bump them off the line. sorry for the rant, just had to vent.
  6. thanks cutback. i wonder if there have been other schools in the running. i can't believe more schools wouldn't be recruiting him.
  7. Does anybody know if Jamison Link for Gallatin is being recruited? He's one of the best db's I've seen. I think he'd be a great free safety; speed & height. He's smart too.
  8. i agree with memphisplayer. cbhs gets more bogus calls their way. when i played against them i got called for holding when i barely bumped a guy & my hands were fists, blatent call for them. the year before that a cbhs rb's knee was down but no call & he scored. cbhs has the most obvious i've ever seen, then germantown.
  9. Region 8 in 2000 was Collierville. 1998 is tricky but I think it was Kirby - the only team that's beaten Collierville, Germantown, & Houston in the same year.
  10. itzme. we all know the publics are at a major disadvantage when it comes to recruiting, i mean, tuition assistance & regional constraints. and the 5a's would still be competitive with the privates.
  11. what happened to Knoxville Austin-East? haven't heard anything about them. they used to be a perennial power. i agree with Germantown in the top ten. what about Briarcrest?

    Gallatin

hey GWAVE1, thanks for the props. i have to admit, this game really surprised me. i was really worried about Collierville's o line but they answered some questions Fri. night. what a game huh?! you're right on that Gallatin needs to be able to throw; if they ever do they will be a huge force. please tell me that Link kid has some d1a's interest, he was a playmaker! he had 12 tackles, the fumble return, an int, & 140 yards rushing. what was Gallatin's preseason ranking? i heard they were top 5 in the state. and #66, my friend i was with noticed he was pulling! too bad the weather kept some people away, Gallatin is a great environment for h.s. football.
  13. hey volunteergeneral, what's JCM gonna do this year? I remember y'all had two good receivers last year. Are they back?
  14. Gtowner, Collierville is athletic in most positions. Good speed & size but questionable in the offensive line. I think defense returns 7 starters. They beat Southaven(MS) in their spring scrimmage & SHS is a MS 5A contender. BUT, we got hammered in a preseason scrimmage because we tried to run between the guards too much. My nephew had good numbers last year as a RB but it depends on the play calling as to whether he'll be a factor this year since he's moved to QB; the kid is fast & has a cannon but won't matter if he's just handing off. Taylor Breshear is a hard running FB, he's small but tough. I just believe we're gonna have to open it up alot to have a chance at GHS. Should be fun anyway. I love football.
  15. I live outside of Collierville. there will be a decent Collierville contingent, they're taking a bus & they know this is a big game for gauging where CHS stands. I've heard Gallatin is awesome & big. Collierville's o line is questionable which is why I'm concerned. My nephew is Collierville's starting QB. He's a D1A prospect so this will be good exposure for him if his line can block. Of course, play calling (ahem) will depend on whether we get crushed or not. Collierville can't line up & run between the tackles like they almost always did in the past. Believe me, depending on Collierville's play calling ( ahem!) Gallatin very easily could take it by 3 or more td's.
