  1. My picks that seperate my from the crowd this week: Conington over Ripley CPA over Ezell Harding McCallie over MBA Sycamore over Page Boyd over South Pitts Wartburg over Oliver Springs Hey, When your down as much as me you take some risk!
  2. Tidwell was asked to resign by the principal - I got that from Tidwell directly. He also made sure the team understood that on Monday. Kind of tacky to do that in the middle of the season. The players presently on the team like and respect Dryden. I think the will respond well to him. He's not a screamer but respected for his knowledge of the gane. I think he is logically the best choice although Madwell would be a closed 2nd. I believe his plans are similar to what ELA suggested in a previous thread - make football fun - work on fundementals - loosen things up a bit and take some risk. Seven Srs. and Six Jrs. with the balance of the 40 to 45 team being Soph. and Freshmen. I think they will play as hard as they can. Lets give them our support for the rest of the season. I am curious how the "quiters" will respond. Will they try to get back on? Will they be allowed by Dryden? By the Admin? What should the consequence be for quitting on your team during the season? ( I Hope they get back on with consequences).
  3. Where my words? I've got to eat them (from another thread).
  4. ELA, I do appreciate your comments on this and many topics. I'll go on a limb and make a prediction for WC in 2004 - Tidwell is still the head coach. He's like the 8 or so seniors left on the team - he don't quit. He knew when he took this job that the program was way down and I believe he committed at the time to stay for the long haul. All the recent coach have stayed for maybe 2 years? He knew on the front end it may take longer than that and show should we. The admins wont fire him because they too see that the program needs stability and I think they like his coaching philosophy. Prediction # 2 - The lawsuit will be settled out of court for an undisclosed amount (around $50,000) with input from the liability insurance company of course. But remember I'm ranked at 190 on "The Big Ones"
  5. I love an underdog. I saw Cookeville play Coffee and Warren and was not overly impressed either time. Good guys though. I think they will hang in there 1 quarter; be down by 3 tds at the half; and lose by 35. May score early or late. But - I love an underdog. Hope the Cavs pull off the big one.
  6. When the Warren County Pioneer band does the tomahawk chop thing (Fla. state) it give me the creeps. Make me think of Injuns surrounding the fort and were doomed again!
  7. Cookeville charges to park next to the visitors side but not the home side. Kind of tacky. So if you go to Cookeville, park in the lot behind the school, walk to the stadium and move you car to the parking lot next to the bleachers during the half. They dont charge after the half and you get to stretch you legs.

    Games to remember

JCM 48 - Bradley County 50 in triple overtime in 1976 for the AAA state championship. 7-7 first qtr; 14-14 at the half, 21-21 after the 3rd, 28-28 after the 4th. You get the picture. Best game i ever saw - period.
  9. Of Oooltewah I know very little but I saw Chatt Central again Warren County. Chatt Central has loads of talent but at that game did not play like a top 10 team I beleive. If Chatt Central plays a "wide-open" game and can control their penalties and turnovers they would be a challange for any 3A team in the state - I think.
  10. JCM will lose if they are the BIG ONES because I will pick them to win and have cause many a good team to lose that way.
  11. I sat on the Cookeville side because I thought it would be less crowded. Nice visitors seats at Coffee County. I though Coffee's quickness won the game for them. They seemed faster and played with more confidence. Cookeville seem flat for most of the night to me. I expected more out of Cookeville's passing game. I think they will improve as the season goes on. Cookeville seemed to get good penetration on defence but would overrun the ball carrier. Both teams went from the shotgun most of the time. Coffee had several young men that could take the snap and scoot with the ball. Number 12 took the most snaps and could really through a bullet through the Cookeville secondary. I was impressed by Coffee PAT man also. I think he could have moved the post back 20 yards every time. Lots of big plays in this game. Very fun. I didn't remember any injuries from either side except maybe a cramp. Clean game with few penalties in the first half. I disagreed with a couple of the officals calls that went Coffees way on a drive in the 1st half (but they were closer than me). I think Coffee County is a team to be reckoned with this year. I though Cookeville was a little too consistent in thier play calling. Seemed to try a play over and over if it worked the first time.
  12. Remember - Hs football is supposed to be fun! You average HS players (like I was) better enjoy these days. Most of you will not go on to play on the college level - so play hard and fair. I've often said about the only thing I miss about being a teenager and high school was playing HS football. Good luck to all tonight!
  13. This is the game where I'm going to be tonight. I'm a WC Pioneer fan so I'll be scouting future opponents. (Not offical scout - coaches don't need my $0.02 worth). I don't care who wins - so best wishes to both teams - just want to watch a good game. I suppose Cookeville will have more room on their side so I'll probably sit over there. I do like Coffee County visitors seats.
  14. I don't join because Because I'm, 'um - CHEAP! I don't have the great resources of knowledge - (like the WCHS coach should be a homeboy form Warren County to be any good) - that so many others appear to have. Incidently, WCMS and WCHS both report an excellent upbeat practices today. I'm optomistic that the pioneers (HS) may be about to jump their first hurdle - having a positive attitude and having fun playing football (I know thats 2 hurdles). It take courage to play HS football. It takes more to be on a winning team and be in the final games in Murfreesboro. Y'all it may take even more to play for a losing team and to keep coming back week after week (or in WCHS case year after year), work as hard as you possibly can in the off season, to be knows as members of the last place team - and to continue for your teammates, you school and you community. - Go Get 'em Pioneers!
  15. Yes smith52, Tom Fann was head coach before Richard Ross. That would put him being coach in the early 70's I believe. Richard Ross was head coach at JCM by the mid 70's through at least the mid 80's - the "glory days". Tom Fann was the principal at JCM during the Richards Ross era.
  16. I remember Coach Richard Ross at Jackson Central Merry kicking long field goals on first down to control a blowout. The 2nd and 3rd team played primarily defence and kickoffs. The starters would sit on the bench. I remember one time him calling for me to go back in late in a blowout game for an injured player and i had already taken off my cleats. He let me have it.
  17. No Yellowjacket you are wrong. Cuss words are not just words - They are profanity and it is wrong to use them. In the "real world" as you call it there are those who do not know how to express themselves without them and there are those who keep their language under control. Everyone in the "real world" does not cuss. I wish officials, coaches and "mature" player would use their influence to discourage filthy language in all situations.
  18. Hey Volunteer General - did you play for JCM back in 78-79? If you did then I'd bet ol' coach Long grabbed your facemask a time or two. Sure did mine - got my attention too. As for Cole Langford, after he was pulled out he appeared to be encouraging the team from the sidelines, congratulating for good hits, etc. Didn't look like he was quitting or off the team at that point. I may be wrong. Warren County's defense look good untill the punt-blocked for TD then next play pass interception for TD combo that hit in the middle of the 2nd qrt. Then it was meltdown time. Offence got a 1st on their first pessession and thene were shut down. WC is off next week so maybe things will have time to cool off. Go Pioneers!
