  1. LILAL I very seldom post on coacht unless it is to get out some pertinent NFF info...................I enjoy reading the posts for the most part. I also think coacht has given prep athletics in Tn an excellent medium for info!! However, I must respond to this posts of yours.....................I really think your statement about Coach Aric is completely out of line and has "zero" humor. The coaches of Wilson Co...............some will lose up one/fifth of their years salary; I suppose they will deserve that also?? Also, for the record I have worked with a lot of good men and coaches over the years and Traye Aric is one of the hardest working guys I have been around..............I assure you that he earns every penny of the Wilson Co. stipend. Also, I do not think I have ever worked with a better group of young coaches........Crane, Dedman, Springer, Jennings, Stallings...........they deserve better from this county. I suppose I do have a large head, but it is what the good lord has given me and I have learned to live with it; I also hope that "WE" have a good offensive game...........I get great help from both Crane and Aric on the offensive side of the ball. As does Dedman on the other side!! We have a tough game tonight and we have had some hard distractions this week.................I think our guys will fight hard; we might come up short, but we will fight hard..................we have a good spirit about us!! I am a old coach now!................but I still love the game and have enjoyed my 45 years coaching with some excellent coaches and some great young men. I think this attempt at humor was completely out of line and absolutely not funny.............you must be a small person in spirit; I am sorry for you!! My name is Wes Elrod; asst coach at Wilson Central...............who are you??

  3. About the best answer would be the old pre-playoff bowl game set-up..................last year probably every team in 4-5A with a .500 record or better would have gone to a bowl. It all runs in cycles, I can remember when the play-offs first started..............East Tn dominated for a long period; then it shifted to Middle Tn, but it is all cyclic!! When play-offs first begin, there was only 8 teams....................all selected by a points system. Then we went to only district/region winners going.................some very strong 2nd place teams stayed home. The next progression was sending 1-2 place winners...............pretty tough games in all rounds. AND.............a big AND this was in just (3) classes. Now we have (4) teams from each region.............4-5A could have sent at least 6 last year and they would have been better than a lot of teams that made it Here is a test: Last year had MBA, Smyrna, and Maryville in top 3 classes as State Champs.....................lets take a trip back to the old 3 classification days........... NOW PICK ONE! There would have only been (1) State Champ back in those days. Right now, coming out of the WEST seems to be easier (it is probably cyclic though)..............case in point, Independence was in the State Finals last year; they would have had trouble even making the playoffs from 4-5A and then have to play all the same teams again to make it past the 3rd round....................but they are State Finalist. good for them!! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> IMO
  4. anyone have any news about scrimmages?

  6. You better get to work....................the "shadow" could be watching!!
  7. Longtime football assistant at Antioch HS, Billy Whittaker just passed away. Coach "Whit" was a fixture at Antioch for many years and coached one of the "original" wrestling teams at Antioch when the sport was in its infant stages in Nashville..................he had some very good teams and state champions at Antioch. Coach "Whit" will be missed.................. 763

  9. Many are open for NOT a good reason................some are open because the coach sees greener pastures. I really do not have a clue or any way of knowing. There seems to be a lot of talk about the Coffee Co. job...................but ithat job would appear to be a "challenging" job at present. Again, that is only speculation on my part. I just looked on the TSSAA job site and there are quite a few openings and that does not include the FC job; which is a bit of a surprise to me..................I thought he would be there at least one more year. My post about # of jobs was just a comment. 763
  10. I do not think I have ever seen this many footbal HC jobs open at this time of the year! It is also enjoyable that football board is (slightly) open again................it is interesting to speculate as to who will go where.
  11. I agree with most every thing you say and yes it is pocket change.................I did the (+) thing from the get-go and before he decided to tie it to the open/closed board thing. The football board is easily the most used board and is ABSOLUTELY dull when only open to (+) members. It it his board and his call and he can do it as he wishes..................I like it better open to all; because ALL make it more interesting and more fun. Nothing really to read!! sorry, but it is my opinion. We can agree to disagree! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> 763
  12. How many (+) members would it take to keep the football boards open year-round? The football board is the one board that needs to stay open because of recruiting, jobs, etc. Was a (+) member from the get-go because I thought the board added great interest to HS sports and simply did it from the standpoint of support; NOT the ability for year round posting. I will renew mine yearly, if and when football stays open all the time. I enjoy reading what everyone has to say about the great game.
  13. No, actually it is simply the "old" timey outline of what the stitching and bands use to look like on the old leather helmets...................I think Notre Dame was the last team to actually wear the leather helmets. Paul Hornung (I think) actually wore a leather helmet in those days. 763
  14. runtheball.....................I am going to get sad if you keep this old times stuff going. By the way, do you ever hear from the "foot phantom"................the "shadow" pops on from time to time. If the "shadow" had had internet access back then; he would have certainly got fired (LOL) /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />
  15. This is confusing since both teams run a similar offense........ 1.) riverdales lineman were worn out, but WC lineman were not. 2.) not a catch up offense to a similar offense that did score points that should not score points because of the nature of the offense they both run.............sounds like the dog chasing its tail. I hate to break it to you, but with the level of the Riverdale's skill folks (not O Lineman)...............I think they were right on track with what they did this season and did a super job game in and game out. The offense that both teams run will cover some specific weakness that you might have from year to year whearas some offenses require specific skill abilities..............this offense basically molds what you got. WC is running the exact same offense as it did in 2005 with different type QB yet both look quite different; the offense has an OPTION component being used now, but not in 2005 (QB in 2005 threw more than run). I think Riverdale did a great job each year with the option component with both young Thomas and Smith (also for the record...........I think Smith had a terific year and is a battler just like McChurch). This has been a very competitve year in Region 4-5A this season............several good teams.
  16. A defensive player is under the same restrictions as an offensive player.................. good example. Sometimes a free safety will roar downhill and take out interference by cutting the lead offensive blockers legs below the waist............that is "Blocking below the waist"............you can tackle LOW, but you cannot do that to the lead blockers. Now is it called uniformly; absolutely not, because the officials do not see that tactic a lot. Ever seen a runner reach up and grab a tackler's face mask...........YES and it will be called. so, just because a player is on defense does not give him free rein to do illegal acts
  17. 2p, I appreciate you throwing me the "fish", but it would greatly interfere with my nap-time, and my wife only lets me go out and play for limited amounts of time these days. Coaching HS football has really been a great job and great fun....................the game has been very good to me and I fell obligated to try and give something back; that is why I "help" at Wilson Central; Coach Aric has assembled very good staff with some hard-working young coaches. Our team has good chemistry and we have been fortunate to have had such a good season in such a tough league; hopefully, we will play better this time vs Riverdale..............they are a very solid team. Being a head HS football coach (this day in time) requires tons of energy.................it is a young mans game!! There are some very good candidates in the Rutherford system and elsewhere and I am sure the admin. at Oakland will find a good one.
  18. Now that is funny.................Cat!!
  19. Game face on Tuesday!..................way too early; probably just a case of painful hemorrhoids!! /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> or bad burrito from Taco Bell.............
  20. Right on the money!! BUT; now there is always a BUT (LOL); the saddest comment will probably be these 4-5 posts on this subject, because in reality, no one cares anymore! The Metro-Nashville School System problems will never be solved by the likes of Pedro Garcia and his crowd. Public school systems throughout this country need a new mind-set and it will start with locals untying from the Washington DC mess and doing what is best for their people, not something dictated by a federal judge. At some point, hopefully common sense will come back into the equation.
  21. Oakland @ Blackman Riverdale @ LaVergne Siegel@ Lebanon Smyrna @ Wilson Central Lincoln Co. @ Coffee Co. Warren Co. @ Cookeville Dickson Co. @ Ravenwood Bartlett @ Ridgeway Bearden @ Jefferson County Science Hill @ Dobyns-Benett 763
  22. You are correct for the first round..................what the above post was talking about is the 2nd round IF (and that is a big IF) region 4 swept region 3 in first round game. First round bracket will always have 1 (A) vs 4(/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> 2 (/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> vs 3(A) so this being the case unless Warren Co. upsets Riverdale then the Warriors will rematch with the Smyrna/WC loser (this week) IF they beat the Lincoln Co/Coffee Co. loser (this week) in the above round 1.
