  1. Farragut defeats South-Doyle 9-1 on Monday night at Farragut in the District 4-AAA tournament. The Admirals advance to the championship game on Wednesday. South-Doyle remains alive in the loser's bracket. Farragut hit four home runs that accounted for seven of its nine runs in the game. Winning pitcher: David Catapano. He had 10 strikeouts and two walks. Losing pitcher: Lee Vannoy. He had nine strikeouts and four walks.
  2. Rockwood (4-0) remained undefeatd with the victory at Wartburg (4-1). Warburg made several mistakes in the game. The bright spot on offense was QB John T. Armes. He had two nice touchdowns runs of 64 and 51 yards. He broke four tackles on the 51-yarder that gave Wartburg a 12-7 lead. In my opinion, the turning point in the game came when Warturg's starting center was injured on a play near the end of the third quarter. Not sure if anybody else saw this or not, but while the trainers were checking on the downed center, the backup started warming up on the sidelines. He snapped one a good 10 yards over the fence, nearly wiping the smile off one cheerleader's face. A couple plays later, the backup snapped the ball over Armes's head while he was in shotgun formation. Not sure about the play-calling on that one. Rockwood was able to block the punt after Warturg (obviously) couldn't dig itself out of a 30-yard hole. Rockwood scored and never trailed again. At this point, it seemed as if Wartburg was determined to lose the game. A receiver dropped a third down pass deep in Rockwood territory. Wartburg stopped Rockwood on its ensuing possession. They would have had good field position and plenty of time to score had they not completely clobbered the punter. Rockwood was able to run out the clock from there. Overall take: Wartburg had every chance in the world to win the game. The receivers dropped two crucial passes that should have been caught, and the special teams screwed up big time for running over the punter for no reason. Rockwood did not look impressive on offense. They had big trouble converting in the red zone.
  3. The Sentinel had a preview article about the game as well. Not too familiar with the teams, so can't make a prediction. Will be intersting to see if OS can rebound from last week. Prof. Z
  4. Well kram, this is the first time in a long time the Newsless Senseless has given to us in east knox County. i personally asked the sports editor ahillen to come do an article about our football bleachers, and he told me that they didn't have time. The truth about it is: the Knoxville Journal used to cover High School sports a lot better than the senseless. don't believe me? visit the Microfilms at Lawson McGhee or at Hodges Library. Gee SplainsHornet, I wonder why a daily newspaper the size of the Sentinel wouldn't have time to do a story on the bleachers at Carter's football field. Surely "bleachers" isn't what you meant to say, is it? Prof. Z
  5. Exactly. The deadlines involved with most newspapers' eary editions just don't allow for scores from games that end late. At least you can get the stories/scores on the website the next day if you don't recieve the late edition in your area.
  6. Central shouldn't have much of a problem against West. I'd look for Williford to have a couple nice catches and maybe a big play here and there, but Central is just too much for the Rebels.
  7. I agree totally. Just joined this site the other day, and I'm already more than impressed with the extent of the content. Great work guys.
  8. First of all, it looks as if both Fulton and A-E are going to have solid seasons this year. My allegiance lies with another KIL team, but I wish the Falcons and Roadrunners the best of luck in a tough region. Second of all, you people are crazy for complaining about the media coverage. I'm sure the editors over at the N-S sit around before the Friday games and conspire to keep Fulton and/or A-E out of the paper. Apparently one of the writers didn't get the office memo last week, because there was a feature story on Harris and a story from the Webb game in the paper. The stories are probably still on the paper's website, but I can't say for sure. I have to agree with NIN on this one. Time to step away from the grassy knoll. Time to quit whinning and end this pathetic "we-never-get-our-names-in-the-paper" pity party. I will concede, however, that most of the TV stations around here do a lousy job with their coverage -- not just with Fulton and/or A-E, but with all teams. Good luck to all this season, Prof. Z
