so you cant be talented and work hard? Id rather have a big fast talented player with a great work ethic. Rod Wilkes for Smyrna has a full ride to UT and is very talented and--------- he is one of the hardest workers in practice you will ever see. I think Lou Holtz said it best his 1st year at South CArolina when he said " I can tell you our players will do the right thing work hard and be coached to be in the right place at all times --------------- where they will be run over by a bigger faster player from another team" what he was saying is he needed bigger and faster players with the same work ethic. I think coach Price gets everything he can out of the talent he has. Its hs football you play with who shows up and do the best you can. I have never seen cc play that I thought they sure dont play hard. They may get out matched on occasion but its not for lack of effort. still see wc winning due to just to much speed and chemistry going on right now. wc 35 cc 14

GO BLUE DEVILS! for the following reasons; region 4 team if smyrna wins this week gets them another home play off game and you know this If there was ever a team or a game smyrna would like to have another shot at after lebanons magic second half against smyrna it is the blue devils.

pattonboys dad - good to see a coacht fan that knows who these kids are and I would bet you have seen most of them play for years in youth leagues and middle school smyrna freshman still has a tb as good as anybody and maybe the best one playing freshman ball in the region in fleming. Riverdales freshman knows he is pretty good he scored 6 touchdowns agains them in smyrnas triple ot win earlier in the year at riverdale. Not making this a freshman thread but anybody that saw him knows he is a player and will be huge benefit next year on the varsity. Bryson was not the starter against siegel to start the season and did not become the starter till about the 3rd game. He rotated for the 1st 2 to 4 games before becoming the tb for smyrna. That is what I meant by saying he got his yards in really about 8 games. Next year you will see him returning kicks and punts and also playing db at times. Good luck to blackman next year while this game did not work out like you needed blackman obviously has a good core of talent coming up and I know coach wells will get it done once he gets enough talent. I have a lot of respect for him and he has always been good to me and my son that played for him at smyrna. I hope he wins every game next year but one! Coach shad has been very conservative with both freshman althoung meadows would be a great fb or tb and bryson would be a great db he has chosen to keep them on one side of the ball this year.

cookeville did beat lebanon who struggled after playing a magic second half of football at smyrna. A lot of that was due to loisng their qb though but no doubt they weren't quite as good as that half indicated. Why I beleve Smyrna will win: I believe Smyrna has played some teams that are similar to cookeville and have played a variety of offenses. brentwood academy - pro type run and throw great line on both sides riverdale - power type wing t wc- speed wing t with jet sweep lavergne - spread no huddle I believe this helps smyrna their schedule rank was 8th cookeville was 51st and included 2 wins against 4a teams and the 5a teams they beat in their region were a combined 3 and 27. I dont think Cookeville has played anybody this season that can run the type offense smyrna runs especially with special teams. The region cookeville plays in just does not run the type offenses region 4 teams run and with the over all team speed. Also Wilkes is a game changer on special teams. Can Cookeville kick it in the end zone? Smyrna expects this game to be like all their games this year tough close and back and forth till the end. Still see it as smyrna 28 cookeville 14

smyrnas coaches comments: "They'll be one of the better teams we've played all year long, and from everybody that I've talked to, they're maybe the best team in that region even though that's not the seed they have," Smyrna coach Philip Shadowens said. "A lot of people think they are the best team in that region, so it's going to be a great challenge for us." I dont think smyrna will be looking ahead based on that statement. you may be suprised Smyrna will have a really good qb next fall who will be coached by the best qb coach in the region. While Smyrna may run it more next year who wouldn't with bryson who has rushed for nearly 800 yards in really 8 games plus there is another good freshman rb that can play in fleming . This doesn't even take in to account meadows our freshman mlb who will be on the offensive side of the ball in 08 and is one of the fastest players on the team and will be well over 200 pounds. My point is not blackman doesn't have good young players my point is they are not alone. And yes in my opinion blackman losing that game is a step backwards. Because it is the final game that could have got blackman to 500 and was against a team blackman should beat. Oakland just wanted it worse and that puzzles me how blackman could not? blackmans coaches can coach but at some point the players have to get it done

absolutely for lavergne as well as every other team it will be tighter next year and making the playoffs will be decide by less than 5 points for the year.

Lebanon is probably the happiest team to get out of region 4 alive! everyone conveniently forgets they lost their qb for most of the season and still got it together enough to get in the playoffs. They will roll over lc even without sallis with him it could get ugly. The pit won't matter it hasn't been alive in years. Plus lc lost a game and that is the kiss of death for their fans. Lebanon 28 lc 7 hopefully Smyrna can get it done against cookeville and we can see lebanon again at Smyrna for a rematch.

one comment I hear a lot about lavergne losing all there region games by a few points. They are a very good team and probably deserve better I think we are seeing a new day in this region and it will only get more competitive. I believe over the next few years virtually all region 4 games will be competitive close games with a lot of round robin situations from top to bottom. One thing is for certain you better be pre pared to win close ball games and this means no turnovers and emphasis on special teams. riverdale won the championship this year and they deserve a lot of credit I would say even more than any team in the past. For the first time in years they had to fight for every game in the region and had to make plays when it counted to get it done. There were many past years they were not only never challenged but never even trailed in any region game. I would think this year would be more fun for their fans. my prediciton - next year will be closer and some really good teams will be home saying we only lost 4 games by 10 points. get used to winning close games or stay home in november.

haven't seen any film on cookeville yet but I believe they are the best in their region because I know for instance their tb did not play against lc and they had the ball inside cc 20 several times but did not score.so I know Smyrna expects a tough game. Blackman has been looking for a qb for 5 or 6 years! Wallace is a great athlete but out of position at qb. Losing this game was a step backwards for blackman any way you look at it. I keep hearing about their young players and this may come as a shock but in this region a lot of teams have good young players coming up. its rare when 3 officials throw a flag on the same play and the one you are referring to had not 1 not 2 but 3 flags thrown from 3 different angles from behind from tge side and from in front (his was the hardest to see because he didn't throw it very far) wc got beat get over it.

I think That is why smyrna was able to hang with riverdale last week. That 5 week play off run is great training for playing in tough games. last night was a great game between 2 very good teams probably 2 top ten type teams. Sonny was very poised all night and made good decisions with the ball and took what wc gave him. I have said it all year a s good as wilkes was last year he is better this year especially as route runner. He made one catch on our last drive over the middle that sonny threaded in to him and he caught it with a db right on him. That drive was huge. extra notes: smyrna has not lost on the road in the last 2 regular seasons and that is something to be proud of. smyrna is almost depleted at lb and start a freshman and a sophmore lb the starting lbs in the pre season are all out with injuries (day/carr/craig). smyrna is 3 plays away from being undefeated lebanon - 4th down conversion brentwood academy - pass over the middle on last play jonah bobbled it if he catches it clean its a td riverdale - 4th and 2 conversion 3 plays and 11 points from being undefeated shows they are not that far away from last years. Any region 4 team that gets through the 3rd round and out of this region has a shot at winn ing it all.

I am pretty sure I read somewhere that statistically the odds of making a 2 point conversion is around 33%. the odds of winning. if you dont make it when trailing by one point is zero. I would always err in putting it in the players hands in ot. they win it it or they lose it there. By going for it a coach is making a decision that puts his team in a situation where the odds are against them. The only exception to this rule is if you have a lesser talented team that is a huge under dog then you give it a shot. I dont believe siegel was a huge under dog or lesser talented

congrats 2p - you have hung in and finally get a win. I honestly thought Blackman was heading in the right direction and getting momnetum for 08 so I cant say I saw this one coming. I hope region 4 sweeps next week just to make a point for all the teams in region 4 that didn't make the playoffs that there are some good teams from this region sitting at home that would be playing for region chamionships elswhere. what do blackman folks think about thois game this season? Wilkes is a big physical receiver when the balls in the air he is going to go get it. As I said before the game you dont have a db that can cover him man to man and heck he had 2 tds and numerous yards and catches against double coverage. They covered him more like no arm bandits /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Smyrna won because they were the better team and had been in that position many times before needing to be patient and come from behind. but if you want to whine and believe the refs did it to you go ahead it just takes away from your teams effort. we will see you at smyrna in a couple weeks and bring what ever refs you want because it wont matter. by the way reading back through the post and all that talk about jamming rod---- wc never tried it once they played 8 yards off all night and always had help from the safety or the olb dropping. He was double teamed all night as I expected but still had 9 catches for 119 yards and 2 tds. Smyrna stayed patient took the short routes and threw to hagar #8 ( who is one of the most under rated wrs in the region). home sweet home!!

by the way where were the wc fans?? the crowd was pathetic. I came to the lebanon vs wc game and it was standing room only. Smyrna had more fans there than wc. The crowd was also very quite even accounting for the small size. whats the deal?

my view wc is a good team aand is well coached and run their offense well. Really want to get outside but as I thought Smyrnas defense was able to run with them from side to side.Most of their yards came on pass plays and that is the price you pay when you sell out to stop the wing t. However the last one with 4 minutes to go was inexcusable. Smyrna had to be patient wc played off the receivers gave them underneath stuff all night and wanted to slow the game down and keep possesions down. Smyrna had 7 possesions scored on 4 4 tds wc had 7 possesions scored on 4 3 tds 1 fg Wilkes had 2 more tds and was very difficult to cover he now has 26 tds over his last 13 games. I do believe smyrna and wc will play again at smyrna in 2 weeks.

blackman has been to the bottom and is on their way back up although still not there yet. sorry 2 p but I believe oakland is still falling to the bottom blackman and siegel just left. the good news is its all up from there.
