Have heard rumblings about he might not be there. You have to wonder. Last year they were 4-3 and lost the last 4 games of the season including a first round playoff game. This year they were 4-2 and have lost the last 4 in a row. They still have made the playoffs but it doesn't look good.
  2. Yes. Millington (7-5A) does and they are both juniors. Aaron West has 1330 and Miguel Barnes has 1097.. We are 7-3 and will host Whitehaven in the first round of the playoffs.
  3. Without a doubt, I believe that Collierville #4 in 8-5A will smoke Bolton #1 in 7-5A.
  4. But most bowl games cost schools money. The bowl game would have to be in the backyard of both opponents to cut down on the travel costs. Otherwise you don't make enough money to justify it. Once again, I think you need to send a message to your kids whether it's to motivate them or whatever else. 5-5 is mediocre,average,etc... and mediocrity should not be rewarded. Work to get better and your reward shall be a state playoff berth.
  5. Please! No disrespect intended but 5-5 teams don't deserve to go to a bowl game just like a team with a losing record has no business making the playoffs. You don't reward mediocrity. Make it worth something. Cut the playoffs back and then you might have some worthy teams to play in a bowl game. College football has already ruined the bowl system. I refuse to watch a football game that has a 6-6 or 6-5 even if my favorite team is playing in it and I love football. I just can't accept mediocrity.
  6. Let's just make sure that you have to have a winning record to get in the playoffs. No more 1-9, 2-8 even 4-6 teams should make it. Why should you be rewarded for being mediocre? Realign so there are no more 4 or 5 team regions. And please do away with the asinine rule in D-2 (win 2 of your league games or 50% of your total games and you make the playoffs). MUS is now 4-3 and 2-0 in the league. They have qualified for the playoffs although it is conceivable (and very likely) that they will lose their last three games and finish at 4-6 overall and 2-3 in league play. They play Brentwood Academy, MBA and CBHS. CHANGE THE SYSTEM!
  7. I agree. Let's change the playoffs back to the way it used to be. No more of this '"let's have as many teams as we can so we can water it down" playoff system.
  8. That has been the case in a number of regions over the past couple of years. 2 years ago, it came down to the last game of the season in 7-4A. Munford vs Haywood Co. Winner goes to the playoffs. Haywood Co won the game but if Munford would have won, it would have been the first win of the season. 1-9 and in the playoffs. Something needs to be done to prevent this from happening. Drop it down to four classes so there are enough teams in each region so it doesn't happen again. Or cut down on the number of teams that make the playoffs. Either one doesn't bother me at all.
  9. If this isn't the lamest thing I have ever seen, I don't know what is. In the TSSAA football regulations for D-2 AAA, it states that the top four teams qualify for the playoffs. However, if a team wins 2 games against league competition or if they have won 50% of their total games then they make the playoffs. The reason I bring this up is because I saw the headline about MUS clinching a playoff berth and I was scratching my head trying to figure out how. Now I know. It is very conceivable that this MUS team could finish the year with a 3 game losing streak. They have Brentwood Academy,MBA & CBHS to finish out the year. That would make them 4-6 on the year and 2-3 in league play. NO SCHOOL WHETHER PUBLIC OR PRIVATE should ever be let into the playoffs with a losing record. I don't care who you are. Make the postseason mean something.
  10. Hey memphisplayer, is he still coach of the year if they go 5-5. I don't think so. Welcome to the real world of 5A football.
  11. Kirby didn't impress me at all. Looks like WS is just a tad bit overrated.
  12. And as far as White Station goes, they have beat Collierville. Let's see what happens when they face Germantown and a young but improving Houston squad as well as Whitehaven. I don't think they have ever been to the playoffs so you have that whole new experience as well. Good story for this year but have some success over a couple of years before you beat your chest and ask for respect. Anybody can do it on a one year basis.
  13. Last year was the first time since 1996 that Bolton had made the playoffs and its the first time in the last 10 years (at least, maybe longer) that they had a winning record. Bartlett isn't that good, Houston is reloading ( and did so at the right time vs Bolton) and Millington outplayed them but made some costly mistakes. Of the games they have remaining, they should be favored to win almost all of them. Munford is 1-4 but have been in every game but one. Harding should give them a good game. Don't take Cordova for granted either. They can move the ball up and down the field with the best of them. As far as making the state playoffs, that should not be a problem. They would be hard pressed to get past anyone from the other region. Right now it looks like White Station, Germantown, Collierville and Whitehaven would be the four teams and we all know what Whitehaven did to Bolton last year at Bolton!
  14. Overrated! Like I said before, just because you win one year doesn't earn you any respect. Do it over a couple of years and win some games in the playoffs before you start running your mouth. Bolton is a basketball school anyway. Always has been, always will be.
  15. White Station is in the same boat as Bolton. Do it for a couple of years and then you can get some respect. Earn it first. Don't ask for it just because you got off to a hot start one year. Make the playoffs and beat someone and get some respect.
  16. Houston did not lose to Millington during the regular season. Only at the jamboree and in a scrimmage. Whit, you have to do for more than a year and a half before you can considered the "real deal." Bolton is good but if they were that good, they would have beaten Whitehaven in the playoffs last year. That didn't happen.
  17. Those are the coaches that call in. There's only so much you can do when coaches won't call in and talk about their games. Opperman, If someone is a "sports talk show host" and is worth a darn at all, then they are setting up those interviews and not just taking whoever calls in. That's the problem I have with it. It is not a show about high school footballl in all of Memphis and Shelby County. It's just about a certain group.
  18. That is a lame show in Memphis that has the same coaches on every week. I could get the scores off of TV and talk to some coaches and do better than that.
  19. The Owls are highly overrated. Some of the coaching staff are over the hill. Changes need to be made. Plus ECS is a pretty good football team.
