  1. I'll say that DeKalb may surprise a few and pull this one out. Sycamore seems desperate and will pull out the stops, but I'd like to see the underdog come up and win this one, just for respect's sake.
  2. I'd say it's pretty darn good. If we didn't use a score measuring stick of what teams do to each other, then nobody would be predicting anything. I predicted that PC would have a letdown and let that one slip away, but from what I read, the Bobcats took it from them by pure domination. I know PC and White House is good as they have been in the past. But I've learned in my years of football that nothing is a given except that there's going to be another team nose to nose with you.
  3. Prayers go out for the Tucker family. God Bless our Servicemen and Women. This sure makes you realize that Football is small in the whole scheme of things.
  4. That's cool, Vandy---sometimes kids need a lift. I think you just gave them one.
  5. Riverdale's defense/offense is too much to top right now. Go Warriors!
  6. I remember the days Goodlettsville played. One name I remember from there is Charlie Payne. Big playmaker for the Trojans.
  7. JPII is just another good team without Golden Tate, and with three losses on their season already, I don't see that they are anywhere near the likes of Riverdale phenom status for their division. Yes Golden Tate is fast, but so are many other kids in the Tennessee high school football. His name catches the ear, and his attitude catches the eye, and that's not always a good thing. JPII tries hard to sell his stats to the media as a future big draft choice. Maybe he'll make it. But I agree, it will probably be UTK or the like.
  8. My opinion is Pearl Cohn is due for a letdown. When a team is riding high they tend to overlook teams as the season is winding down. I think Greenbrier can pull the upset with the right gameplan and lineup.
  9. Some people (including all over the state) figure that White House is not winning, the world is off kilter. I've never seen a team that can have a perfect record, or even near perfect, every year for years on end. White House has had alot of wins. Give the coaches a break.
  10. .....stop speeding locomotives, jump tall buildings in a single bound..... I think Antwan can't accept that his team got beat by a team that has been beaten twice before. He is like some else admitted, and his team couldn't be in Greenbrier's shoes, he wants to be able to say they are as good as Greenbrier, or only got beaten by State Champions. Go ahead and admit it, Antwan. Be a MAN.
  11. GOOD LUCK, GREENBRIER! All winning teams are goal-oriented. Teams like these win consistently because everyone connected with them concentrates on specific objectives. They go about their business with blinders on; nothing will distract them from achieving their aims. -Lou Holtz, former Notre Dame football coach- Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships. -Michael Jordan-
  12. Congratulations to Herndon. Great year. Look forward to seeing your college decision. Sounds like sour grapes, Fulton. Maybe Fulton wouldn't like making Mr. Football's look bad IF they had one, but obviously they don't need one to look bad. That last post can handle that all alone.
  13. My buddy just brought today's Robt. Co. paper in this morning at work. It says about 1000 Greenbrier fans traveled to Memphis. That's not a short hop. I must say I AM impressed for a small town school. Can't wait to see what's going to be a Murfreesboro which is considerably closer. I HAVE to get to this game and see the end result. Good luck to the Greenbrier Bobcats. Finish your journey...
  14. Greenbrier, you might as well sit back and read these messages while the Fulton Falcons talk among themselves about how great they are, or better yet, don't let the players read these at all. Talk is a psychological part of the game and Fulton is going to have an answer for anything Greenbrier fans say. Yes, they've won the championship before and they can tout that claim. It will be a tough game to go into, but I've seen both Fulton and Greenbrier. Just as Fulton says Greenbrier hasn't played a team like Fulton, neither have they played one like Greenbrier where Greenbrier defense has run receivers down from behind. To me, playing in the semifinals last year, and getting to the finals this year says Greenbrier is a force to be reckoned with and with a better overall record than Fulton this year, they deserve to be in the playoffs just as much as Fulton. So don't play into their hype. Overconfidence kills.
  15. I'm not talking about it being mandatory to pray. And taking a knee for the players to rest, get water, stay loose is one thing, but if all the players on the sidelines are taking a knee too, I consider this more of a respect thing. I am asking if this is a coach's call or players call? If most of the players on the field takes a knee, shouldn't all of them?
  16. I've seen several high school football games over the years. I've been to most where when a player is injured, some teams kneel in a circle for prayer or a moment of silence, but most I've been to each player kneels on the sidelines while the injured player is being checked out. I just recently went to a game where all the players but ONE kneeled. I commented on it to a buddy sitting beside me, and he said that one particular player NEVER kneels. It's surely not that he's not able because he's an active player. What are your thoughts on whether a player should kneel during an injury for his or the other team? Personally, I feel it's respectful, no matter whose player it is. But what do you think?
  17. I'll take Riverdale in this one.
  18. I went to the Greenbrier - McNairy game after being invited by a guy that I work with. I have attended a few games here and there but since I have no teens I am a football fan without a particular high school connection. However, I did attend the Lipscomb game against Greenbrier and saw the Page and Greenbrier Comcast game. This last week was my third Greenbrier game this year and I must say I am impressed. I saw these players last year and read of some of their games in the paper and they seem to be a team that is meeting their goals. Greenbrier seems to be building respect in the football arena. If you've come this far, Greenbrier, no turning back now. Good luck to both teams on Friday night. I'll be there Friday night to see how it turns out.
  19. Went to the Lipscomb-Greenbrier game at the beginning of the year, and saw Greenbrier play Page on Comcast. Having some football experience, I'd say Herndon qualifies as "Mr. Football." Playing offense and defense is never an easy task, but I was impressed with the way this player was involved in almost every play by running, tackling or intercepting. While McMurray made good plays and had a long run, out of the two, I think Herndon has the stats over a longer course of time. To me, that is what it takes to make the big leagues and what should be considered in a award that is worthy of being called "Mr. Football."
  20. Just thought this might be an interesting discussion. It's the "Peyton-Eli" syndrome. I'm sure there will be interesting stories of "little" brothers that follow in the footsteps of an older brothers. How hard is it for those younger one's to get into the limelight? OR, is it the other way around and "little brother" has the moves and athletic ability that overshadows the older brother? I know of examples when twins play football, and both are starters. How many occasions are there three siblings on a team? And what about several siblings that come through a program over years....are the expectations high if their brother was "a star"? I'd like to hear your view of how it plays out for siblings, and if the field rivalry affects things at home?
  21. I dunno. Looks like Greenbrier is off to a lucky, if thats' what ya call it, start this season, too. Didnt they win the region last year and just beat two teams that beat them last season. Looks consistent to me.
  22. Just wondering how many Mr. Football winners are Seniors? Is this just one way to slap a Senior on the back and say "good job" or is the BEST player in each division really the winner? I have my opinion, what's yours?
