  1. Oh I was not aware there was no 6 quarter rule anymore. I do, however, think it would be better if there were to limit the amount of time the Varsitys can play so the younger players can get more action, but a rule is a rule. It is in no way cheating, and I do not know of a school around here that does not play Varsity players on the Junior Varsity. It would be different if there were seniors on the JV team. I dont know if that is against the rules or not, but I do know that DB has not had a senior play on the JV team in my time in Kingsport in any sport. If you aren't good enough to see the court on Varsity as a senior, you probably just need to get out.
  2. McConnell is out for at least a week with an ankle injury, and I'm not too sure about Edwards but I am pretty sure he was the 2nd post off of the bench... As far as varsity players playing on JV, how is that cheating? You are allowed 6 quarters a day per TSSAA rules... Please do not kid your self every school in the state does that. As far as starters, Sylvester is the only one of the bunch that starts varsity, and it has just been told to me that he does not play on the JV squad anymore. I stand corrected. But still, give me Sylvester on the JV squad and I honestly like our chances more than that worthless effort put forth by the Varsity the other night...
  3. Cap I am not your enemy. I know it is near impossible to believe that another school's JV team could compete with your varsity because I would have a hard time admitting so myself, but let me break it down for you... There are 3 sophomores on Varsity this year, all of whom see minutes and, I believe, all of whom also play 2 quarters on the JV team for extra time. Those 3 players, Sylvester, McConnell, and Edwards all compliment each other PERFECTLY, if given the chance to play. Sylvester is the ball handler and great defender, McConnell is the spot-up shooter and a smart player, and Edwards is the big kid who does all the dirty work. Add in McGue at the point and Riggs in the post and that is a VERY formitable JV lineup. I do honestly believe that if given the chance to play their own game, that team could AT LEAST compete with the team TN High put on the floor the other night. They were not impressive, AT ALL, and I think that is something we can all agree on. Yes, they won, and nobody is making excuses. We are simply saying our players did not make the plays, but furthermore, Morgan is not giving them the opportunities to make the plays. He is continually letting his ego get in the way of letting his players do what they do best, thus minimizing his team's chances of getting a quality win...
  4. I think what everyone is trying to say Greeneville, is, yes, the players made the mistakes when they had an opportunity to win. However, if Morgan would let the players go out and do what they do best and play their game without trying to control every single pass and shot, they would not have been in the position to have to make free throws at the end of the game. I agree that the JV team probably could have given the Tennessee High varsity team a good game, or perhaps, even beaten them because their coach actually attempts to let them play and doesn't pull players out after every mistake...
  5. My point about Morgan getting the most out of his players is simply this. If Justin Sylvester played at Science Hill right now he would be the leading scorer on the team (Seeing as how Omar isn't scoring too much, either because of double-teams, poor shooting, I haven't seen them play so I don't know). Justin is an ATHLETE and a playmaker. When he catches the ball on the wing and is told to look to throw it in the post every time or get the ball back out front and reverse it, that takes away from his playmaking chances. Morgan is simply a coach that will win if he has a team full of talent, otherwise he has no idea how to get more out of less. This team is a good team if you just let them play together. However, he wants to control every aspect of the game, who takes the shots, when to shoot them, etc. instead of letting these guys play. It is obvious to me that he has them out there too scared to mess up instead of fired up and looking to make a play. There is NO WAY a team of this calibar should have lost to that TN High team last night. The Central game, I could possibly understand them losing, but not by 20. They were on fire that night, hitting everything, however to lose by 20 at home is ridiculous. But, last night, was flat-out EMBARASSING!
  6. Both times DB went to state they had great players to bail Morgan out with his "my way or the highway" coaching style. The first time the team was loaded with college talent all over the floor. 4 starters and 1 off the bench all went on to sign and play in college. The 2nd time DB had Thomas Harrison who single handedly won about 10 games for the Indians that year. I think what may turn out to be Morgan's downfall is his inability to change his system to fit his players. He is so set on his ways and doing things exactly as he wants them done that he doesn't take the time to change his defensive philosophy or put in new plays to isolate certain players (Justin Sylvester, cough cough) or anything that will give attention to any 1 person other than himself. That is the main difference with DB and Science Hill at this point. Science Hill is not an incredibly talented team, however Cutlip gets much more out of his players than Morgan does. He has certain sets for certain players and LOVES to isolate Omar 1 on 1 with a defender. I have NEVER seen Morgan do anything like that with any of his players. I think this might turn out to be a long and embarrasing year for the Tribe, however I have not quite given up yet. Just would like to see something change; either some of the philosophies and styles, or if need be, the coach.
  7. DB loses again to Tennessee High...
  8. You are an idiot! While I tend to think that Coach Morgan may not be the right answer to take DB where DB wants to go, for someone to get on CoachT with a dumb name like that and talk a bunch of trash is IDIOTIC! You must be a student with something against him or a player that won't get moved up to Varsity or a parent of a player that obviously can't play. If you feel that way about Coach Morgan, simply write a letter to AD Daniels and kindly explain to him why you feel that way, but for you to make a name like that and say things like you just said is just childish...
  9. For the "idiots" that do not understand, IF Greeneville and DB play this year, it will be in the Regional Tournament. Someone made the comment that with Coty, DB might have a chance to beat them, and well look, imagine that, Coty will probably be back by the Arby's. That means, he will be full strength by tournament time. People (Waco) getting underestimating this team and wanting to give up on them but you are forgetting they only lost 1 person from last year's team and that one person would not help anyways. It is a better team than last years. Charlie is just going to have to figure out what combinations work best and him, along with his assistants, are going to have to get these kids some work on their fundamentals and come January they will be ready to go. Just watch. As for the sophomores, DB's freshman team was really good last year. They are not the best to come through, but it is a really good class. This year, 3 of them are on varsity and getting alot of minutes. Justin Sylvester is getting the most of these minutes, along with Dustin McConnell (wing) and Jordan Edwards (post). All 3 have had their moments this year, but Sylvester is by far "the guy" and the future for DB.
  10. That's funny you mention that because when is it DB might play Greenville? And when is it Coty is going to be back?? As soon as you figure out the answers to those questions, get back to me you idiot!! Greenville is not a very good team.
  11. DB and Science Hill would/will beat any team the IMAC has come tournament time when both are at their prime. I believe Central will also be tough, as might South and TN High if they both come around with time. The IMAC is weak. They have 1 good team in Greeneville, the verdict is still out on Cherokee. This years regionals will prob. be a clean sweep for the Big 9.
  12. You match these two up, much like the ACC-Big Ten challenge, the Big 9 will run all over you guys... Everyone knows it except the unrealistic IMAC, a.k.a, iWHACK fans!
  13. heatplaya a.k.a. OMAR, SHUT UP!!! seriously, everyone on here knows that you are heatplaya, so stop getting on here asking questions you already know the answers to. you know good and well what happened at the game, because you were there! and you also know who you guys play in the arbys, so why don't you tell us what team you draw so we will get to come watch somebody shut you down!
  14. Hello Omar. Nice of you (Omar) to join us again. As for your (Omar) post, I will take your (Omar) word for it on how you (Omar) were used, how much you (Omar) played, and how many shots you (Omar) took. As for you (Omar) questioning his strategy, you (Omar) see him everyday in practice, why dont you (Omar) take a trip into his office and ask him yourself (Omar)...???
  15. I see your point Waco, with them picking up from where they left off, but you gotta understand it's not that simple with high school athletes because they play more than one sport. Many of the players played baseball all summer, Throp and Sylvester are just now getting back into basketball shape from football season, and the rest of the team is just now getting accustomed to playing with those guys. The chemistry will come around and this team will be alright.
  16. They are also playing without their best player, Coty Sensabaugh, until at least the Arby's. It is like trying to compare Duke last year without Redick. It will be two totally different teams when he comes back. Coty is a defensive stopper, the leading scorer on the team, and the catalyst for everything. When he gets back this team will have Throp at the point with Sylvester and Sensabaugh at the wings. That will be REALLY tough to stop. With that said, I think you have to wait until after the Arby's and until Coty gets back to full strength, then you can evaluate the team with preseason expectations in mind.
  17. Ok, first of all, Coty WILL NOT start his first game back. Coach Morgan has NEVER done this to ANYONE after missing a significant amount of time for any reason. While he will play, he will not be starting until he is 100% ready to go as if nothing happened. Second of all, you do not get pulled for missing a shot, unless it is a shot you are not supposed to take. If a post player takes a 3 and has no chance to make it, he will get pulled. If a 6'8" player misses a wide open dunk, he will get pulled, as well he should. There are certain players that should be shooting and certain ones that should not. Make no mistake about it, every player on Charlie's team knows his role and when he begins playing for himself and not the TEAM, he will be pulled. Third of all, Justin Sylvester WILL be in the starting lineup tonight for the Indians. This team will be fine...
  18. All are more successful than DB????? Explain that one. I guarantee you they DO NOT compete with the number of wins, district & conference championships, and probably not even state championships that DB has. You can use the "they were voted on" excuse if you want, they are still in the books as state championships. Anyways, why are you here? This is a DB thread, take your butt back to Colonial Heights and try to figure out a way to beat us in football or basketball because we all know its not going to happen in football, and after hearing about you guys last night, we all know its not going to happen in basketball either. Guess I can't blame you for defending SW VA when you can't even defend your own school...
  19. Sylvester didn't start. Should until Coty gets back, but Morgan is choosing to go with his seniors, at least for now. Either way, Sylvester was the leading scorer for DB, who also plays 3 sophomores, all of which are as good, if not better, than Science Hill's sophomores. Cutlip just uses his differently.
  20. Dobyns-Bennett beat Volunteer by around 20, maybe a little more. Sylvester was the high scorer with DB, while Cradic was the high point man for Volunteer.
  21. DB will be fine. Free throws have killed them in their 2 losses to this point. They have shot something horrendous from the foul line. Once they get that worked out and Coach Morgan figures out exactly who he wants getting the majority of the minutes they will be fine.
  22. 4th place. Lost a game in the final seconds and then lost another one after being down by 21 and coming all the way back to having 2 shots within 5 feet to win the game. Overall, looked pretty decent and have alot of depth. Not having Coty Sensabaugh hurts, but overall I thought the team looked all right. They are getting good senior leadership out of Throp, but not much out of the other seniors. They have 3 sophomores that are seeing significant minutes playing better than some of the upperclassmen, but without Sensabaugh they lack that "take over the game" scoring threat right now. However, they are building a solid core and getting a group of about 10 guys that should be able to play a lot of minutes throughout the season. This should be a dangerous team come January...
  23. Exactly what he wants you to think...
  24. I am not trying to discredit Omar's accomplishments in any way. However, when OMAR aka Heatplaya calls a press conference to "announce" his college choice and where he will be going, that is a bit much and just asking for attention considering he wasn't recruited by Georgetown in the first place. He basically recruited them and they decided to take him but told him his scholarship may not be available the first year. Personally, I have never had a conversation with Omar. All I know is what I hear aobut him and things I see and posts he makes on here as Heatplaya always bragging on himself. He is a talented player that could play mid major basketball, something most kids in this area can not say. However, the whole press conference thing was a little much. Besides, nobody even cares. Finally, Justin Sylvester will get his piece, but he may have to wait. As someone said, he is playing behind 3 senior guards on this team, 2 of them who are 3-year starters and all conference players. This year's team is a deep team and should finish 1st in the conference. TRIBE ALL DA WAY!!!
