  1. 2 first downs?!?!?! That has to be a record low for Gallatin.
  2. We also beat Brentwood on a last second field goal by Taylor Nolan, only to get dominated by a Hendersonville team that got destroyed by Riverdale. '01 I believe.
  3. That's what happens when 3 wing-t teams and a team that doesn't run the spread properly go up against the big boys. As for Gallatin, someone needs to tell the coaching staff that our offense is suited for getting players in open space (and not for running a 5'7'' qb up the middle 10 to 15 times a game). Still, I have to think that if Hendersonville and Beech played 9 games against randomly selected Wilco teams they would win more than 2 games. The disheartening thing is that Gallatin is loaded with raw talent every year, only to be squandered by a coaching staff that doesn't know how to develop them. This is the same gene pool that Calvin Short won multiple titles with. I have to think that some of the boosters from that era share in my disgust. This mediocrity has to end.
  4. This was the worst football game I've ever been to. I spoke with some fellow Gallatin fans before the game, and I prediced 28-10 Brentwood.... Little did I know, Brentwood would blow that out of the water IN THE FIRST HALF. I guess it's popular to call for the coach's head after a 42-0 BEATDOWN, but there is no reason a Gallatin should EVER get beat that bad. Heck, we gave up more points to Brentwood in the first half than we did to McKinley the entire game! I'm going to have to get Gwave to verify this, but am I mistaken in saying that Lassiter's record against Wilco teams (while at Gallatin) is 2-7? At this point in the season, a team with the raw talent of Gallatin should be developing and not regressing. That lies solely on the coaching staff. I'm sure people are going to say, "Oh, but wait.... The first play of the game was awesome!" and "Well, the players made critical mistakes that the coaches couldn't control!" I agree. However, we obviously weren't prepared for a better coached team - yet again... Tonight we were outschemed pure and simple. Crawford saw our weaknesses and twisted the knife directly in them.
  5. Lulz at this guy.... Anyway, I'm actually not foreseeing a win by Gallatin this week. Even though we have WAY more talent than Brentwood, I'd like to revert to the "Lassiter vs. Williamson Co. rule". It is a law of nature that states that upon playing said Williamson County team, coach Robert Lassiter will undoubtedly lose his mind. (See Franklin, Ravenwood, Independence, Brentwood, etc...) Granted, that law may only apply to playoff games. I think Crawford wins the chess match Friday, and possibly in a big way. Our defense is going to REALLY have to step up. BTW, I'm getting REALLY tired of giving 10-15 yards of cushion to the WR's on 1st and 2nd down. This must end.
  6. I think tonight ranks in my top 3 of how mad I can get at a coaching staff. Incredibly bad clock management... Clueless personel assignment... And unbelieveably poor offensive play mixing. I've been nice about it for the last 2 years (I wasn't nice the previous 5 or so), but it is time for coach Lassiter to retire. He is a great guy and all.... He seems to care about the kids... But Gallatin has been nothing more than mediocre since Lassiter got there. Additionally, if I were a MJ fan I would want Perry gone. It was an absolute shame to see Cornelia on the sidelines (one of the reasons I hate the wing-t). A kid like that needs to be getting the ball thrown to him alot more. By the same token, I would like to know why Maurice Box hasn't been getting more touches for Gallatin. I'd also like to know why we went back to running the ball from a shotgun 3-wide, when clearly we were moving the ball at will in the smokestack-I. Why not mix it up, even? Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention running the ball on 3rd and 12, only to fake a punt deep in our own territory afterwards... And apparently our idea of a 2 minute offense consists of running 30 seconds of clock - while subbing wr's - only to avoid a delay of game penalty by BARELY getting a timeout called. We might have beaten MJ tonight, but it is by pure luck that we escaped with a win. I fully expect folks to criticize my views on this matter, but I know I'm not the only one. I sure heard alot of unhappy fans tonight, and there seems to be more every year.
  7. I think you are confusing this year's mt. juliet team with a team last year that had a mr. football candidate at QB. He single-handedly won the game against Gallatin last year, and there's no debating that. Its really a shame that MJ runs that wing-t too, with all the talent out there... Riverdale too for that matter. Worst offense in HS football.
  8. I don't see why it would be stunning... Gallatin's O-Line averages 300 lbs., they have the best backfield in the county, and they have a 6'6'' WR that had 2 tds against a FAR superior McKinley team. Plus, this one is at Gallatin. They are coming off a big loss, and they want to avenge last year's loss to MJ. I don't think 2-3 tds would be a stunning spread. The defense Gallatin is running now is more suited to stop the wing-t too. A couple of 300 pounders at DT to stop anything up the middle, two big/fast LB's that seal up counters and slice plays, and 5 DB's to bottle up sweeps and disrupt the passing game... Alls I know is that Riverdale had a heck of a time trying to run against the 4-2-5. Still, if Gallatin tackles poorly (as they have thus far) it could be a long night. But that defense sure does seem to work against the wing-t. I wish we had gone to it last year, seeing as that half of our district runs the wing-t.
  9. This Mt. Juliet team is not the same without Reid Gurchiek (who btw is the starting qb at Cumberland now, suffered a dislocated hip against Austin Peay but will be back in a couple weeks). Gallatin did really well against Riverdale's wing-t in their scrimmage. The Warriors couldn't do anything on the ground. I expect us to tackle much better this week, because it couldn't be much worse than last week. Green Wave SHOULD win this one by 2-3 td's. And to the guy that said that Gallatin would be suckin' air by the 4th qtr: Wow, you don't know much about Gallatin football.
  10. I didn't see a thread for this one (which kinda surprised me with all the Riverdale fans on here). Gallatin makes this their 3rd consecutive scrimmage against a Rutherford County team. I have to say I like the scheduling by Lassiter, as these are some of the toughest teams in the state. Furthermore, this Riverdale team will run the wing-t as good as anyone we will see this year. Add a challenging defense to the mix, and Gallatin will have their hands full. The Green Wave showed alot of improvement from the Smyrna game to the Blackman game - most notably in offensive production. Should be a physical one y'all.
  11. Gwave, I think you may be right. It wouldn't surprise me to see 5 teams make it this year. Of course as a biased fan, I have to give the nod to Gallatin as district champs. They have alot going for them. Biggest O-Line I've ever seen at Gallatin, possibly the fastest secondary, 2 potential all-state LB's, a 6'6'' WR, and the possibility of some 3,000 yards coming from the backfield. Not to mention, the biggest district games are all at the Wave Yard this year. Man, it's gonna be a grueling schedule though.
  12. You guys clearly have the toughest district in Tennessee HS Football. Good coaches, good athletes, good fanbase at virtually every school...
  13. I've been reading some of the scores on this thread, and I've determined that I must have gone to a different scrimmage. Although the score doesn't matter, there was still a valid score. I left at around 7:10 or so when it looked like they were going to start doing situational/goal line stuff. But while I was there (from 5:00 on) I saw 24-16 Gallatin. Woodard had a td, Box had one a couple drives later on a long run, and there was the score after the Blackman turnover deep in their own territory (west end of field). Gallatin also had a long-ish field goal that was signaled good by the refs, even though it was kicked toward an imaginary upright. From Blackman I saw 2 td's, a failed extra point, and a field goal... Blackman looked pretty solid though, and as always with a Shadowens team they will be disciplined. I'd say it's a Blackman/Smyrna district. GGW
  14. So Gallatin had like 10 kids combine at the Nike camp back in March. The only other 2 teams that I saw that had 10+ kids in attendance were Fulton and Pearl-Cohn. Box and Banks both ranked relatively high on the overall scoring. Here's the most fantastic thing I've seen in a while though... Tre Haynes was the 5th highest ranked OL (keep in mind these rankings are based on 40 time, shuttle, vertical, and ball throwing)... He was the HIGHEST ranked player over 300 lbs at the entire camp. BTW, look out for Station Camp this year. They've got a 6'2'', 200+ pound RB that had a faster 40 time than Box or Banks...
  15. "Great kid" and "hard worker" are 4 words that make me very happy. Until now, the 4 words I would use to describe him (since I don't know the young man) are "insanely fast" and "crazy agile"... But it's great to know that he's got a good head on his shoulders.
  16. Dang... Alot of Gallatin bashing since I got on last.... I mean I know we aren't a powerhouse as of late, but being in 5A will likely put us back on that level. The winner of the Gallatin/Beech game(s) will probably decide the state championship again this year. Plus, if this actually is Lassiter's last year I expect this team to be a bit different than his past squads. We've got the fastest backfield I've ever seen at Gallatin, the largest lines since the Calvin Short era, and experience to boot. The most important thing we will have this year though, imo, is a fast defense. One thing we were lacking last year was versitile linebackers. From what I've seen, we will have that this year. I do worry about the kicking situation though, albeit I shouldn't. I honestly can't remember the last year where Gallatin didn't have a ridiculous kicking/punting game. They always seem to come out of the woodwork just at the right time. And just in case we don't have a natural punter like Kenyan or Link, we can always raid the soccer team and find an Ingham, Nolan, Swann, etc... I wasn't sure how we'd fare but with the way things are looking, McKinnley better be either pretty good or have the most intimidating stadium in the world.... Gallatin's gonna be tough this year. ps. Gwave, that soph rb was..... well..... Ronez Harris had over 1000 yards rushing his soph year. If that #7 kid gets as many carries as Harris got, I wouldn't be surprised to see him double that.
  17. I'm sure I speak for all Gallatin fans by saying that I hope you guys get a good coach. HC had some of the best fans I've ever seen, and you guys have an exciting atmosphere over there in Paris. Sounds like we may be in your shoes next year.
  18. Not real sure how this one will play out. Even with Gallatin's big OLine, I'm worried about the quarterback position. Smith isn't big enough to take the hits that Matthews took last year. Losing Perry will hurt alot too. I'm not real sure what to expect out of any of the skill positions, really. I do remember seeing a couple freshmen that were dominant against Blackman, but I don't know who they were. All this being said, Gallatin usually does okay going to unfamiliar territory carrying alot of question marks. I just hope we throw the ball more than 5 times a game, although I suspect we won't. Running the ball against a bunch of midwest cornfed kids will be next to impossible.
  19. Yeah, I figure Beech will be a little more ready for perry in this game. He went for a couple hundred on them in the last game. It's really hard to contain him though.... Just when you think you have him stopped on the ground, he'll go and catch a couple touchdown passes. Still, I think Beech's defense is very much prepared for this one.
  20. Gallatin may not have the best defense in 5a, but they are close to the top. They gave up 42 to MJ in a shootout (42-35) and 31 to Hendersonville the last game of the season, but that came off the heels of the news about lassiter's brother and the former player... I also haven't heard anyone mention Beech. They held a Gallatin offense that has been putting up around 30 a game to only 7 points in their first meeting. Henry County certainly didn't seem like the best defense on Friday night. Unfortunately for them, they don't have much for competition in that region. (I still think Henry Co. was a really good team)
  21. Actually, Chad Withrow was the only of the 3 to pick Gallatin. Fair and Eaks picked Beech. But it doesn't really matter what any of those guys think because they missed more than half of their picks this week. I think this one is split right down the middle. I really really REALLY hate that it might rain in this game. Gallatin has not done well in the rain this year... Here's a point I brought up to some friends: Gallatin has an indoor practice field, so why practice in the rain if you don't have to? I honestly believe that a wet game is more to Gallatin's disadvantage because other teams are forced to go through the motions in rainy condtions, while Gallatin is used to a dry ball... I think that will play a major factor if the weather tanks. Does anyone have any info on the Beech kicking game? I saw them beat MJ, but I just don't remember. But it seems like they have missed a few extra points? Special teams probably make the difference in this game. I could be wrong. I'm going to decline to make a prediction, as I did last week. I have nothing but respect for Beech having seen them play twice now. Crabtree gets 100 percent out of those kids, so I'm sure they will be licking their chops. BTW, I have dreaded this week since this game happened a few weeks ago. My house is not a fun place to be this week as my gf is a former Beech cheerleader... You can be sure that when she's not looking, I'm going to be doing ''drought dances" all week. Rain rain go away.
  22. Just a side note... The kicker for gallatin and the punter are the same kid. Gallatin has traditionally had some of the best kickers in the state. Heck, we've got one up at UT right now (Ethan Ingham) that should definitely be starting right now since Daniel Lincoln likes to kick the ball into the nearest lineman on field goals...
  23. I'm not sure, but I would think Gallatin has the nod in kicking game. I'm not going to pick a winner in this one because I honestly do think it will be a close game. However, I do feel that strength of schedule plays into this game in the way of preparedness. Gallatin has faced much tougher opponents this year. Take, for instance, Gallatin in the playoffs against Williamson county teams. We didn't fair too well after having played a regular season against a weaker region.
  24. First off, I would like to apologize for running my mouth so much this year. Mostly to Beech people.... My girlfriend is a Beech grad, so I have to hear about those stinkin bucs every day. About NW.... I do worry a bit about big, atheletic, fast runningbacks. The only one we have faced all year that sounds similar to this kid from NW was the Coffee kid from Brentwood. I know they are different players, but that kid ran all over Gallatin. Having said that, I think the linebacker play for Gallatin has stepped up since then, and while they have given up some yards since then, they haven't given up many scores (other than hendersonville). The wishbone could be our downfall. We play wing-t teams year in and year out, and usually have decent success... But you don't face alot of wishbone teams, and if NW is good at running it, we could have a tired defense by halftime. There's a reason that Navy leads the nation in rushing most years. Should be a great game though, and I'm just excited that we don't have to play a williamson county team.
