  1. I think that Briarcrest might give CBHS a closer game than most people think. The win over Germantown 20 -7 was a little misleading considering it was 7 to 7 pretty late in the 4th quarter and Germantown is not a very good football team at the moment. I do think the Harris kid is a very good RB and Mosby at LB will probably be the top recruit in the state next year. The interesting game later this year will be MUS vs. CBHS, they always play each other close and MUS seems to be much improved on both sides of the ball this year.
  2. Marlon Barnes from Millington in the early 90s was pretty impressive. He went on to play at Colorado and then for the Chicago Bears.
  3. I agree that Germantown would have handled Gallatin. One other thing to consider is that Germantown and Gallatin had a common opponent in Collierville. Collierville beat Gallatin on the road, and Germantown beat Collierville 49 to 14.
  4. I watched the CBHS/Germantown game, which was week 4 of the season. I then watched Germantown play a few games later in the year and went to the CBHS/Brentwood Academy playoff game. I can say that without a doubt Germantown was a much better team later in the year than they were in Week 4. Remember they lost 28 seniors from 2002 and had a QB who had not played QB before. I do not want to take anything away from CBHS, but I do not think you can say that because a team beats another team early in the year that by the end of the season they must be a better team. For example, look at the Riverdale/Lincoln County and MBA/Brentwood Academy or CBHS/BA. They all played each otehr in the regular season and the playoffs and there were different outcomes each time. With that said, I think Germantown should be rated higher than CBHS in the final poll.
  5. By reading the comments I get the feeling that you think Germantown is a group of huge, slow football players. Go ask Whitehaven, Bolton, Bartlett, Collierville, etc. and get their opinion regarding speed. They have speed and quickness where it counts. They also have a very good QB who does not make mistakes. Combine this with a defense that has not given up the big play and you see why they are in the Championship game. Also, everyone fails to remember that Jake Kasser was nominated for Mr. Football because he is a football player. No he is not the fastest guy on the field, but he knows how to make plays and he loves to hit. The bottom line will come down to this - whoever controls field position and does not turn the ball over will probably win this game. Just because Riverdale is from Middle TN does not guarantee them a win for just showing up for the game, ask Franklin about that.
  6. Germantown's DBs are pretty good, though they have only been tested one time this year by White Station. One key to this game will be the health of Carlos Dixon, Germantown's standout running back and defensive back, he went out in the 2nd quarter of the Bolton game with a knee injury. I am not sure how serious the injury is and if he will even play against Franklin. If he does not play, Franklin will have one less athlete to be concerned with.

    Germantown

UGA, I would not be so confident in predicting that Franklin or Hendersonville will win next week regardless of the opponent. I remember in the opening week Gallatin lost at home to Collierville. Germantown destroyed Collierville, the score was 42 - 7 at the half when Gtown called off the dogs. Bolton beat Collierville on a last second touchdown pass in round 1. Regardless, they will play tonight and next Friday night and we will all know the winner at that point.
  9. I have seen Germantown play 4 times this year (CBHS, White Station, Houston and Collierville). CBHS' defensive front caused them fits and CBHS mis-direction offense confused Germantown's linebackers. Gtown dominated the other 3 teams with the game basicaly over at halftime. They did it by contolling field position and pounding away with their running game. I think they have figured out the mis-direction offense from what I saw against Houston and Collierville. I have watched Germantown play since 1989, when my younger brother played for them. They played in the 1990 State Championship Game against Lincoln County which was led by Kelly Holcomb. I also, watched them play in the mid 90s when they lost to Riverdale in the State Championship and last year when they lost to Brentwood in the Semis. The reason I bring up the history is that I do believe that this Germantown team is like those in years past. They pretty much have a one-dimensional offense and if they run up against a team with a strong defense. like CBHS, they will have issues. From what I have heard and read Middle TN has five or so teams that can dominate (LC, Franklin, Brentwood, Riverdale and Dickson). The Mid-TN teams seem to be more diverse on offense and solid on defense every year and I expect this to be no exception. My prediction is that Gtown will make it to the Semis where they will run into someone from Mid TN and that will be the end of it.
  10. I find this board quite amusing. Once again, I may be the only person with an unbiased opinion to see both teams play this year. In response to Dan's comments - Grow Up. Like I said in my earlier message, the Russel kid from CBHS is a good wide receiver. He is 6' 3" tall and can run, this is why he is being recruited by a number of SEC schools. The score will be settled on the field. I can promise you this - whoever limits turnovers and wins the field position game will win this game. Also, I am not going to get into a discussion regarding MBAs ability to beat anyone in the state of TN. I have not seen Lincoln County, Brentwood, DB, or Dickson County play this year.
  11. I have seen both CBHS and MBA play this year. MBA vs. Southaven, MS. and CBHS vs. Germantown. CBHS has the best defensive front that I have seen in many years. CBHS also executes a very deceptive offense that MBA's linebackers will need to stay home to defend. CBHS gets the nod on Defense. MBA's Quarterback and Running Back are better than CBHS' QB and RBs. CBHS gets the nod at wide reciever with Russell. MBA gets the nod in the Coaching Department. CBHS gets a small advantage playing at home, which I do not think will impact MBA. Overall, this will be a classic which will come down to Special Team's and turnovers. I do not look for MBA to turn the ball over like BA did. Overall pick - MBA in a close one
