  8. CoachT, why don't we have a big chat sometime in the next few days? You know, a nice chat session concerning the upcomming football season? Just a suggestion. Well, kind of a question/suggestion. Or Something. --Joe Kemple
  9. You know, with Greenback playing Gordonsville at Greenback in week 3, that should give people a pretty good comparsion of 1A teams, early on. From what I saw, and personally played against, Boyd was a little undersized in the passing league, but they do know how to run a offense. I'd like to know how many linemen they lost from last year, or how much experience they have, because that will probably be the sole factor that determines their success. --Joe Kemple
  10. It's about that time. That time for me to do an essential breakdown of East TN 1A football. Being a qualified analyst, which I'm not, I figure my input will be enough to stir up discussion. I hear the main team to beat this year is South Pitt, with Cloudland, Boyd, Greenback coming close behind. I can see why this is, 18 or so seniors returning, and apparently good scrimmages. There's always that one team... Last year it was Boyd, the year before that it was Cloudland... Speaking of Boyd, how are they looking? They lost some key folks, but it's Boyd, and they usually field a quality team. Cloudland, I hear, is fully loaded once again this year. Those big lines help a lot, but it's going to be tough replacing some defensive players, especially Mark Barnett. He was a hoss, and should've been Mr. Football nominee over Christman, in my opinion. Hey, what about Gordonsville? We play them this year, and I know they lost Troy Claiborne, but they are always rough every year. I guess I should finish off with Greenback. PAssing game, once again, is very intact, and this time around, we have a slew of junior running talent that we can select from, who all have been working extremely hard in the weight room. Probably one of the fastest teams we've had in awhile. But most importantly, one of the best lines in awhile. A lot of these guys have starting experience from two years ago. Please, put in some input. --Joe Kemple
  11. Greenback defeated Cherokee rather easily.
  12. A lot of William Blount's problems is the school itself. I know a lot of people that just don't want to go there. Talent level is there, though. Just look at the surrounding scools (Alcoa, Maryville, Greenback). --Joe Kemple
  13. I don't think they are related, but it's foolish to say that he is a much better coach. I mean, I may be extremely biased, due to the playing for him factor and all, but I would say he's been rather successful during the 18 or so years he's coached. --Joe Kemple
  14. Greenback has a few great juniors coming up this year: Such as... Name | Position | Height | Weight | 40 Time Kevin Dailey - OT/DT - 6'2 - 225 - 4.9 Steven Hawkins - WR/DB - 6'0 - 155 - 4.72 Derak Bell - WR/DB - 5'9 - 165 - 4.55 Joseph Kemple - RB/DB - 5'6 - 140 - 4.6 Justin Cole - WR/OLB - 5'11 - 155 - 4.6 Greg Way - RB/OLB - 6'0 - 160 - 4.62 Austin James - QB - 6'0 - 160 - 4.59 Derak Bookout - OT - 5'9 - 190 - 4.9 J.R. Valentine - TE/DE - 6'5 - 210 - 4.89 Torrey McClurg - RB/MLB - 5'9 - 230 - 4.85 Matt Long - RB/OLB - 5'9 - 150 - 4.9 Add this to a great group of seniors coming up, and you've got a great squad of athletes. Great line, a much more balanced offense, a great coaching staff, and 34% more explosions? This upcomming Greenback team is set for a quality season. --Joe Kemple [Edited by MakoRevised on 4-2-03 10:10A]

    1a football

Just a few thoughts: USJ is the team to beat this year, in my eyes, and the team in the East to do it would probably come from South Pitt. South Pitt returns a great deal of people, I hear, but the main focus is on USJ, in my opinion. Year before last, they lose Greg Fay, and according to most should be terrible, but the return with near-to-nothing and make it to the semis, ultimately losing to the eventual state champions. Of course, the eeriest of twists would be to praise them this year, and then have absolutely nothing. We'll see, but those look like the teams to beat, and the teams that other teams (coughgreenbackcough) will have to live up to. --Joe Kemple
  17. I'm pretty sure we have Gordonsville on our schedule, not South Pitt, although I could be wrong. I don't have a set schedule in my hands, or anything. That's not to say I haven't heard anything from respectable sources. I'm pretty sure we add Gatlinburg and Gordonsville, and take out West Greene and Jellico. We have a few spring scrimmages with the likes of Alcoa, and I believe Cherokee, so we'll see how that goes. Apparently, Greenback loves the attention, so whatever. I just know our basketball season is over, it's about ready for spring, and that means about near time to BS about high school football on CoachT! "EZELL RULZ!!! DOBYNS BENNET WILL SUX!! OAK RIDGE IS MERELY AVERAGES AND ISNT LIEK THEY WERE IN TEH 80S!!!" Sound familiar? ..Whoo. --Joe Kemple
  18. Greenback, Sweetwater, Grundy. Maybe they should incorporate Jonathan Jones into the mix, and add some discipline principles. We'll see. --Joe Kemple
  19. I wonder if Dustin Latham will have as great a season with a good deal of Sweetwater's line leaving. If you're looking for great RBs, you might want to check into Greenback's talented backfield. There is a stable of junior talent (Greg Way, Derak Bell, Torrey McClurg and myself, obviously, back from a 130 yard season ), a senior all-purpose guy Trae Helton, and most importantly, a line that has lost only 1 person from graduation. Expect a more-blanced Greenback team come this year. --Joe Kemple
  20. Coaches, If you were to measure 40 time, hand-timed, how exactly do you go about doing it? Hand(s) on the line, feet behind it, first hand-movement? Same, but with the first foot movement? Feet on the line, hand in front? On a related note, a "pre tendon-injury" Willis McGahee ran a low 4.2, or so, which was a Miami record for forty time, and pretty much everyone knows how many great athletes they've fielded over the years. --Joe Kemple
  21. No one thought USJ would have as good a team as they did this year, after what they lost. South Pitt, I hear, loses very little. Greenback is due to have at least an equal or better season than last year. --Joe Kemple
  22. Greenback edged a pretty good Halls team tonight, and all wrestlers on their team put in some quality effort (except for that 130 they have on their team, oh lord). No forfeits, I believe. Maybe in 112. they've won 11, though. This is a quality team. A few wrestlers could definitely be state qualifiers. --Kemple
  23. Apparently, the dawgpound has more success at home. As you may know, the visitor's stands in Greenback are pretty close to the field. However, during pre-game warmups, I didn't manage to hear anything, and the RB group (where I'm at) is right next to the visitor's stands. At Cloudland last year, though, they were pretty rough during pre-game. heh --Joe Kemple
  24. I concur! I believe it was a poll based out of Pennsylvania, and it listed the best 1A teams in the nation. That is, teams with school enrollments between 200-299. --Joe Kemple
