  1. McMinn comes off of an impressive performance against McMinn Central and Bradley comes off of a good win against Walker Valley. McMinn will have its hands full with Copeland as he is a difference maker. In my opinion Bradley becomes a better team when they establish the pass first. That opens up holes for Copeland to exploit the defense with his legs. The question in this game is does Bradley crowd the box and dare McMinn to throw it? I hope they do because that plays right into the Wing T theory. The Tribe played well last week so can they continue that this week. My opinion is if McMinn can limit Copeland big plays and execute the Wing T offense then they win. But if they allow Copeland to hurt them with his arm and legs then it can be a long night for the Tribe. McMinn 28 Bradley 24 Go TRIBE!
  2. Who wins and why? McMinn is changing their offense to the Wing T and Central is changing there defense to the 4-3. Both teams have talent and have shown signs that they will be competitive this year. So who wins this traditional cross creek game?
  3. Tellico keeps it close for much of the game then RW starts to pull away. But then amazingly TP scores late in the game and goes for the 2 pt conversion to upset RW. Tellico Plains 29 Rockwood 28
  4. McMinn shocks he Region by upsetting a very good Rhea County football team! McMinn 22 Rhea County 21
  5. Coach Mullinax has stage 3 lung cancer. He will begin chemo next week. The doctors are expecting the chemo to be more effective then surgery. Coach is 70 and has smoked for the past 50 years and stopped "cold Turkey" 4 weeks ago. He is expected to make a recovery and coach till his mind and body say no more. He has instilled in his players to fight till the final whistle blows....we can only encourage him to do the same! Go TRIBE!!
  6. Rockwood better be prepared to get hit in the mouth again and again from Tellico. This is a gritty bunch that plays just like all Mullinax coached teams have played thru the years with passion, intensity, no fear and a desire to leave all they have on the field. Rockwood may in fact win but they will know they have been in a battle with an opponent that was prepared to go to war. Knowing Mullinax he will have his team prepared and expecting to win. Rockwood 28 Tellico 30 GO BEARS!
  7. Tough task for the Cherokees this week against a good Rhea County team.
  8. Worst Cleveland team I have seen in years all be it they are a young team. They have a good athlete at QB that makes plays with his arm and legs. A couple of very fortunate passes found their mark. McMinn gave this victory to Cleveland but that's what happens when you play undisciplined football. It was a sloppy game from the beginning for the Tribe. McMinn was in total control of the game as Cleveland could not stop Kimpson ( 41 carries 308 yds.). In my opinion a crippling loss for the Cherokees seeing that the back end of the schedule is brutal.
  9. Copeland was impressive! McMinn didn't show up ready to play By the way just how many older Copelands are on the sidelines? I obviously saw #10 but I saw two more. One looked like a glorified ball boy and I am not sure what the other one was doing. I am sure both have completed the required TSSAA training for volunteers? This leads me to believe McMinn Central might not have been as good as everyone thought regardless McMinn got throttled by its biggest rival. Not a good performance by the Cherokees.
  10. Sounds like the TSSAA is becoming more like the NCAA....of course there has to be rules and there will always be those that don't follow the rules. I am personally thankful that the TSSAA is actually handing out some punishments but this one sounds like the punishment doesn't fit the crime. The TSSAA should be spending some time implementing a rule to stop schools especially private schools from recruiting student / athletes that are all ready a student at a high school. Seems to be more recruiting a current student / athlete to a private school then anything . Regardless of the details of the violation Damon is the CEO of the organization so it all stops with him. From what I know of Damon which is minimal he is a pretty straight up guy and he couldn't have been in the business as long as he has if he is a rule breaker. So lets get back to the McMinn / Bradley game....you Cleveland people go back to living in the '90"s when McMinn native Benny Monroe was leading the Blue Raiders to Championships.
  11. Read where Bradley Central head coach Damon Floyd is serving a 2 game suspension for an apparent rules violation. Anybody have the scoop on this?
  12. The oldest rivalry game in the state of Tennessee....both teams are Black & Gold and there is bad blood that goes back many years between these two schools. McMinn is coming off of a good win over McMinn Central while Bradley is also coming off of a win at Walker Valley. Who wins and why?
  13. Central last beat McMinn in back to back seasons in 1972 & 1973....last time they won in Athens was 1974.
  14. McMinn Central comes off of an improved 2014 season where they beat McMinn County for the first time since the late '80's and McMinn County is coming off of a disappointing 2014 season. The Chargers have a quality quarterback and appear to have a productive running attack....the Cherokees are replacing a 3 year starter at QB but have speed at the skilled positions. So who wins this cross creek rivalry game?
  15. Its not the color of the floor that was odd. Its all the lines on the floor that give it the appearance of being a maze, plinko board, hopscotch, etc..... Yes nice gym but way too many lines IMO. If you think Bradley is like playing in a college gym then please come visit McMinn. The gym at McMinn has a seating capacity of 3400 with 25 feet of space from the baseline to the wall. I would say that McMinn has the largest gym between Chattanooga and Knoxville including colleges and Universities.
  16. I recently was at the Bradley County / McMinn County basketball game and saw the new Bradley gym floor. It is different with the floor being BLACK except for inside the 3 point arch. What is odd is all of the different lines on the floor. Its obvious there are volley ball court lines, a half court line for basketball, and other lines that I have no idea what they are for. It looks like a hop scotch court. At one point one of the officials was struggling with making a back court call because there were so many lines on the court around the half court area. Bradley has a nice gym and a proud tradition but way to many lines on the court. Is this an issue at other gyms?
  17. No backing down here....they recruit by winning championships....and the FIRE is a brilliant idea to help supplement their program! I don't understand why MCHS doesn't have a similar program. Of course the AD at MCHS locks the gym and balls and wont let our kids use the gym during the off season. While Central has their gym open to everyone and open year around. Like I said everyone wants to play for a winner and Central has been very successful at winning. MCHS hasn't had very good talent. Yes they have had a few good players but no one besides Ward that was a game changer. If you read closer I said this bunch isn't where they need to be but in due time they should be a more competitive team then what MCHS has produced in years past. McPhail is a hard worker and we support him!
  18. Its no secret that kids like to play for winning programs and Central has for sure won their fare share of championships. Coach Morgan is a good coach and I have a tremendous amount of respect for him and his program. What I get a kick out of is the card the Central people always play in all sports. Well McMinn is so much bigger and they should win. That argument doesn't hold water with me. Bottom line is that in basketball especially girls Central has had better talent. Until McMinn gets its program back to the days of when Tucker was there they will continue to struggle against the good teams like Central. In my opinion McMinn is on track with the current freshman group and the girls playing at the elementary schools that feed McMinn. Another interesting point is if the school board implements the zoning rule they have discussed it would force the kids to play for the school they are zoned for. There would be no more going to EK Baker or ACMS and going to Central.
  19. Yea just like they didn't recruit the Lynn girl to come play at central or Jordan from EK Baker ????? The freshman aren't where they need to be but they will be in due time. Of course we are playing the great McMinn Central on November 25th....cant believe they would even stoop so low to play McMinn. McMinn isn't worthy of being on the same floor. Should we take our shoes off before we enter the round house? It is sacred ground isn't it?
  20. Glory you sure can tell you love the baby blue by your comments about McMinn. Of course you are forgetting about the 4 freshman that McMinn has coming in this year. Surely you know them as they were pretty much recruited by the powers that be in the Fire program to attend central. They were successful in getting one of them talked into playing at central but the others said thanks but no thanks I am playing for the black and gold. mark my words McMinn may be young and probably will have their growing pains this year but the future is bright for the Cherokees.
