  1. The last time Science Hill beat D-B was during the 1994 football season.
  2. The last time Science Hill beat D-B was during the 1994 football season.
  3. Marshall County: Mac McCurry built a wonderful in-door practice facility during his time at Marshall County. Good luck Tigers for the 2005 season! Hopefully the young men and present staff will be thankful for the hard work that was put in to building this GREAT facility. We miss you Coach Mac!
  4. Science Hill Hilltoppers: 1. Phil Stewart - Tennessee 2. Terry Copeland - Tennessee Tech 3. Aubrayo Franklin - Tennessee 4. Steve Spurrier - Florida (need to say anything else?)
  5. What are your thoughts on the Science Hill football program and a 4-6 record during the 2004 season?
  6. Buck Wells at Campbell County is the "MAN!" He took a job nobody wanted and has taken the coug's to their first ever winning season and first appearance in the TSSAA play-offs. Way to go BUCK! thumb thumb thumb
  7. Olive is a very good football coach. They've had sickness, injuries, and athletes not like in the past. In high school you play the hand dealt you. Don't give up on the team yet, they need our support even more now.
  8. Terry Copeland was a pretty good high school runningback from 1992 thru 1994 at Science Hill. All-time leading rusher in Science Hill history.
  9. Who has the top position coaches / coordinators in Region 1 5-A? Let me hear what you think.
  10. Science Hill's uniforms STINK! I do not like the Washington Redskins look with their pants (2 strips). Their helmets don't look good either. Could be better!
  11. What are your thoughts on why Science Hill had a slide toward the end of the year? As I have stated before, have they really played anyone who is a quality football team besides D-B, Jeff Co., & McMinn Co.????? This is not meant to be negative. Just wondering what your thoughts are, since the 2003 football season is over. Coach Poe is HAPPY I'm sure !!
  12. Art Baby, Thanks for all the GREAT numbers you provided! It will be a tough challenge to say the least. As I have stated earlier, you must look at the history (which you have provided) and look and see the records of the teams Science Hill has played this year. A few weeks ago (after week 8) the numbers were below .500! The quality teams are not being played by Science Hill which would help them later in the play-offs. Too many key people hurt for the Toppers, @ J.Fred Johnson, history against the Toppers, & an offense which has been struggling of late. Does that spell DOOOOOOM for the JC boys? I have to admit, YES!!! I'm sure Coach Poe will be HAPPY! Break out the round ball Boys!!!!! TOPPER PRIDE
  13. Art Baby, I love the history you provided!! Very impressive. Long Live Rivarly!! Topper Pride
  14. Art Baby, I'm with you on the game really meaning something to both Kingsport & Johnson City residents again. In 1993, 1994, & 1996 the game determined if D-B or Science Hill would win the Big East outright or at least share the crown. Those were good years during that stretch run! You are also right about how Pitts kept The Topper Palace very hot. Usually you could cook some bacon to go along with those eggs, even brew a pot of coffee! The Toppers were, 0-10 (1999) & 1-9 (2000). I would love to see Spurrier back into college football. Don't be surprised if you don't see him in orange again, Burnt Orange, as in the Texas Longhorns. He is GREAT for college football! Art, I hope the weather stays good for Friday night. If it does you can be sure you'll have a $25,000/30,000 plus gate at J. Fred Johnson. Topper Pride (Hope no one pulls any Halloween pranks before or after the game!)
  15. Art Baby, Who are you for, D-B or The Toppers? I take it you must be a D-B fan. Your post don't seem to sway one way or the other. If you just saw the GIANT picture of Steve Spurrier last Winter, where have you been? By the way, you spelled Spurrier wrong. Are you young or new to the area? What are you referring to when you spoke in your 1st post about the new coaching staff? Bowles has been here going on his 5 years now, 1st year he was 0-10, 2nd year 1-9, 3rd year 8-4, 4th year 5-5, and this year 8-1 (to this point). McClanahan, who was the coach before Bowles never had a losing season (he did have two.500 seasons), he went 9-4 his 1st year, 7-3 his 2nd, 8-4 his 3rd, 5-5 his 4th and 6-6 his last on the Hill. Turner went 8-3 his 1st year and 10-3 his last. Turner and McClanahan took the Toppers deeper into the play-offs than any other coach in school history. Science Hill will always will be a basketball school first. D-B has been and always will be a football school first! I hope JC can beat the Tribe this Friday, it will be tough though at J. Fred Johnson! What is the record when the Toppers play D-B at their place? The Tribe always seem to have JC's number, example 53-23 overall record. I'm looking for a good game on Friday. I'm concerned with the way the Toppers offense has been playing the past few weeks. Not very effective of late. They must find a way to score against a good D-B defense. I still don't think Science Hill has played tough teams like D-B. Example a team like Oak Ridge! That doesn't mean I'm not pulling for the Toppers, but I do think it can impact a team later in the season. Topper Pride Giddy Up!
  16. Gridcoach, I didn't mean to press on any nerves. I'm happy the Toppers are 7-1 at this point in the season. I'm just making the point their schedule is not very strong. You are right, the Tree Steets, along with EVERYTHING inside the city limits is zoned for Science Hill. I think it could hurt the Toppers once they get into play-offs by not playing a tougher non-league schedule. I agree with Elizabethton & Tn. High being traditional rivals, but Daniel Boone, a rival, and a traditional rival? I disagree with that observation. No, I'm not a parent of a player who is not getting enough playing time. It sounds like you might be a coach who is insecure with the job you are doing, or maybe just an insecure Gridcoach. I'm pulling for the Toppers and hope for the best, even in the play-offs. Like I stated earlier, learn a lesson from the basketball program. Play tougher non-league games, at least one! Gridcoach, by the way, I'm not trying to start anything. I'm sorry the truth HURT you the way my 1st topic did. I'm at every football, basketball, baseball, track & field meet, and many other sporting events the Toppers compete in, varsity and lower levels. Topper Pride!!!!
  17. Science Hill football is having a good won/loss record this year. But if you look closer you'll see they have not played anybody who would be considered a quality team, except for Jefferson County. Lets' take a look at the teams won, loss records of the teams on Science Hill schedule (through 8 games) ... Win Loss 1) Elizabethton 4 4 (look at who is in their league, not top quality teams) 2) South Doyle 0 8 3) Tenn. High 6 2 (same as EHS) 4) Sevier Co. 3 5 5) Daniel Boone 3 5 (same as EHS & TN High) 6) Bearden 3 5 7) Jeff. County 7 1 8) Campbell Co. 3 5 9) Karns 3 5 10) D-B 7 1 Total: 39 wins 41 loses They don't play very good teams, they should have a GOOD record. The combined records for all the teams they have played through 8 games is below .500 (39 wins / 41 loses) The Big East is weak and Science Hill should be playing schools better than their 3 non-league games. Take a tip from the basketball program, PLAY BETTER NON-LEAGUE TEAMS! It will only make you better in the play-offs!
  18. What a bummer on Friday night! If the RECEIVERS catch one of those 2 balls Toppers may win the game vs Jeff County. Who coaches the receivers on "The Hill" for the toppers? Joslin could not have placed those balls any better. The Toppers are going to need players to make those common plays in the future if they plan on making some noise after the 31st. Hope the receivers coach works on the fundamentals some more this week. It could make the difference later!
