  1. Marv58... As an OC fan I assume, what are your thoughts on the scrimmage?
  2. PL.. I expect a report. Mustangfan said they looked decent. Holder looked good. Guess the baseball boys will be back Monday. I'm sure they'll get ragged, don't you.. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
  3. Congratulations to Riverside. Good luck next week in M'Burro. Thanks to all the Mustang Seniors and coach Eubanks. What an amazing run for you Seniors.
  4. Anybody going to the scrimmage with Obion County today? Baseball vs. Riverside with a trip to the Buro on the line this afternoon. Fillies softball vs. JCS with a trip to the Buro on the line too. Good luck to both.
  5. Hoofbeat... What's up with "Tiny" flying the copter in to dry up the baseball field. Man he's a true Mustang supporter.. Seems to have worked too. Congratulations to the Mustangs and Coach Eubanks for another district title...
  6. OldGold70.. You're thinking like me. Not all that bad by the way. Somebody needs to be hired that can take the DB's and make them work. Do ya'll think it could be someone that Swenson knew from another school? I know the former players that Hardhead70 was talking about. They would be a nice addition. It would be nice though if a coach moved in with a couple of sons that were linemen.
  7. Heard Wambles was leaving to take the HC spot at his alma mater in Alabama. Any thoughts who the "Powers" will hire to take his and coach Eubie's spot? Could someone from another school move into town this summer? We'll have to see... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> .
  8. Heard that too. Jamie Williams was a great players for the Tigers and will be an excellent coach. Congratulations...
  9. Good post. I'm sure it's hard for Sharp to schedule. Moving to 3-A will be a different game for ya'll for sure. Not everybody wants to travel all the way to Lewis County. You'll be playing tougher teams but you'll also have to face tougher teams in the playoffs. Huntingdon has always played "up". This makes it tougher if you don't have the depth you need. You guys will be alright. Still wish they had classified again but with different enrollments and kept the 5 classes though. Good luck to ya'll next year too. You have a Huntingdon connection on your staff now. He was a good player here for the Mustangs.
  10. I found out what I needed to know. That would provide some depth for sure. The facilities at Paul Ward Stadium are coming along nicely and the locker rooms for the baseball team should be finished soon. I don't know of many schools that have better baseball facilities than us.. I wouldn't want to fish with you. I'm afraid I'd blow my hand off.. /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  11. PL.. What did you say about a position change? I was worried about melting on Thursday night and don't remember who you said. No need to put it on here but holler back at me. I saw PL Jr. and he said he was ready to go. I think I'm gonna like the late spring practice. We won't have to worry about snow falling during a scrimmage... /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  12. I probably shouldn't have phrased it the way I did. The opportunity will be there for several to step up, especially in the spring. The Freshmen classs had good speed and they are working hard in the weight room. Last year we had Ward, Wallace and Thompson to start and had one Freshman to start and another that got some quality PT. The one that got the quality PT is the nephew of Al Wilson, (UT and Denver Bronco fame), if that helps out any.. If you know Huntingdon football then you know who that is... /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  13. P&G Standard.. I don't think Swenson will be too concerned with Obion County and Hickman County. What he'll be trying to do is toughen the team up some. I don't know if this will be our year cause we're still young. Alot depends on how those sophomores/juniors to be grow up during the summer. I honestly think only two of last year's Freshmen will play as sophomores this year. The Junior class looks pretty good. What about UC? I heard UC had small numbers but those that are out are good. We look forward to playing you again. I wish we could play y'all at Paul Ward Stadium this year cause we never have much luck at your place... /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />
  14. Warbritton and Arnhold probably will battle for the starting QB next year. I saw Fulton this past week and talked to him and he has grown alot. He's now 6'1" and 245 lbs and will be a Jr. next year. I couldn't believe it was him. If he gets his motor reved up he will be hard to handle. Lots of talent and some size but maybe not as huge as some past years. Should have around 70 boys out in the fall. 27 Freshmen stuck it out last year so there is no reason they won't be back in the fall. It looks like there will be around 18+ Freshmen coming in. Two former players that will be Seniors and had to sit out last year will be back but we'll have to see if they will contribute. The Obion County scrimmage will be there and we will scrimmage Hickman County here on the last day of school in May.
  15. Lots of starters will be out for baseball when spring practice begins. I think coach will be able to see who has improved since the end of the season and it will give him a chance to see who will step up this fall. Lots of talent in the skill positions but I wish the line had more depth. What about the kid who moved here from Texas last year? He was on the scout team last year as a Freshman and knows football.
  16. We'll have depth at most postitions but some of spots will have to be played both ways. Only lost 9 Seniors so lots of younger players got to play last year. Some of those Seniors had never played before last year too. The freshman class had 27 players last year but only about 2 of those will be counted on to play some this year. Spring practice will be in May this year and many of the players will still be playing baseball at that time.. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> I look forward to seeing the Swenson's wing-t again this year. It's fun to watch and hopefully the players will be more comfortable this year running it. Huntingdon won't throw it this year and they never have. Line up and run it.... The Mustangs are like all the teams this time of year and they're hitting the weights and trying to get stronger. I don't know what our record will be come late November but hopefully the schedule will prepare them for a run in the playoffs which is what all teams want.
  17. Duckman.. Good post. I agree with you on Coach Comer. He should stay in McKenzie. He had the job in hand last year in Lexington but turned it down. The D'Burg job was offered to Kevin Ward but last minute snafu's turned him back to Camden's side. I would really be shocked to see Comer leave. I do think he is trying to get more money though and the "set up in MSSD won't allow that" as most know. Nobody should blame him for that., He has been approached by the booster club with more money and therefore I think he will stay. I wouldn't like my coach shopping every year but he may be like you say in wanting to move up. Could the MSSD not give him an Assistant Principal job to get him more money? The logic someone used about him leaving because of the deal with Mr. Ward is weak. He applied for the Lexington job last year when this wasn't an issue like it is now. I will say losing Mr. Ward and Coach Comer will be a hurdle for the Rebels but not something that can't be overcome. Good luck...
  18. Speaking as an outsider with all due respect, I think you have a real problem with talent at CHS. It's always easier to criticize a coach for calling a wrong play if it doesn't work. Nobody ever calls the coach and says that was a great call you made on the fade pass for the TD last night. The Tigers went 8-4 last year against the same schedule and now all of a sudden the coaches are terrible? You beat Manassas and played TCA in the 2nd round. Why is it that the Bruceton boys haven't won a game this year in basketball this year either? Are ya'll going to ask to get another coach there too? Carroll Academy beat the Bruceton boys last week at Bruceton and the CA boys haven't won a basketball game in 3 years. I'm serious... You could have had Rod and Jackie back and you might win one game. Maybe... Talent level will still be down next year. Fielding only 23 players this past year is tough on any school. Until the fans get behind the kids and quit downing the coaches, the kids will take the same attitude as those disgruntled fans.. Kids hear the negative talk at the "Blue Dip" and then the players suddenly know more than the coaches do. Lastly it's easy for a school with 1200 students to have talent each year. In Central's case and all small schools when you only have around 300 kids in high school that makes it harder to put talent on the field. No students in the halls equates to no talent on the field. The Tigers will be back but only until the "Saturday morning coaches" get behind the team. They always play hard and will continue to do so.
  19. What's the hold up on announcing the 7-AA All-Region team? Have they had the banquet yet? Surely Ward will get the Coach of the Year but what about the offensive and defensive MVP? Any thoughts?
  20. I agree with the dawg44. Please don't go with the Michigan style helmets. Goodpasture's current uni's are pitiful looking. I'm sure the new look will be much better. Good team this year and in the past but again the uni's needed updating long ago.
  21. Has anyone heard who made the All-Region team? I would think that Holder would have a chance at Offensive MVP and my vote for the Defensive MVP would go to the linebacker from Adamsville. His stats coming into the Huntingdon game against us were huge and he made a believer out of me. He was all over the field and is a tackling machine. Sorry, but I can't recall his name. He's good...
  22. August 28th.... Milan at Huntingdon
  23. Thoughts on the game.. Alcoa watched lots of film on Milan. Milan never could get their offense untracked. The front four for Alcoa were awesome. Definitely controlled the line of scrimmage. Morris didn't put in any plays that Alcoa had never seen on film. Kinda thought he might have a trick play or two to get a little "mo" going but I never saw it. The onsides kick with 6 minutes to go in the 3rd was uncalled for I thought. Down 21-7 and Alcoa had one score on special teams play put some doubt in my mind to call that or not. Guess he had to try something. Milan D played well enough to win the game but Alcoa was better at that. I coulda told Coach Morris that Alcoa would use the throw back pass. That's a play used by Maryville and Alcoa for years. Early field position by Alcoa. Getting the ball at mid-field after the onsides kick in the 2nd half was big too. Alcoa takes it down and scores. Milan fought back. Never quit. I saw some awesome hits and heard them too. The hit by Gilbert on Toney I believe on the goaline was somethng to see. Gilbert getting flattened on the punt return and him coming back into the game later was all man. Lastly, I like to know who some of the Bulldog fans were. I saw one Milan man who had a shaved head with a 6" purple spike. Wow... Another Milan man with a purple bath robe and purple top hat. Never seen them at Johnnie Hale Stadium before... /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Congratulations to Alcoa.. That record may never be broken and maybe you can add another title for 6 in a row. Hats off to Milan too. Great year.
  24. I just talked to Milan's #85 here in Huntingdon and she said to give a big shout out to him and the rest of the team. We've got 2 carloads of Pigskin Pals going and we will be there pulling for the Bulldogs. Looking forward to all the games this weekend. Good luck to all the teams .....
  25. Vandy 1.... Great info you have there. I've often thought about doing something like this for Huntingdon. We're all proud of former alum that you have as a head coach. Coach Mac will be in the Hall of Fame someday and he is one of the best in the state. I have a friend that had a son on the 2002 team that won the title and last year was one of Coach Mac's best jobs. He pulled Fulton offsides twice in the title game against Fulton in the 4th quarter to keep the ball and secure the win. If the game had gone another 5 minutes I don't know if DL would have won.. I might add in the 2003 title game Huntingdon's Terrance Bell set a state title rushing record and the Huntingdon Mustangs tied another record with 6 interceptions. You may not want to put that on the DL history though. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />
