  1. The job has been posted but no hire yet. It's tied to an elementary PE position in the county. School starts in HC on July 28, so the position should be filled pretty soon, I'd guess. The team lost one senior and returns several experienced upper and under classmen. From what I've heard, they're a good bunch of girls who will work hard and want to win. The shame of it all is that with the TSSAA calendar, they'll only have a short time to learn a new system before the season bgins. I know there are other schools in the same boat, and it's a shame for them as well. But that's another topic for another thread.......
  2. He has taken a teaching/coaching position in Todd County, KY. He will be the girls head coach there.
  3. Does anyone know the tournament schedule for this week? Did Friday's weather alter anything?
  4. Thanks for the additional information. That's more than I've been able to find out by asking many people today. Here's the question that has come up from more than one person, and I'd like to know your opinion on it, Spanarkle. What will the increase in the cost of this type of physical do to the students whose insurance won't cover it? I had a parent tell me today that her insurance wouldn't pay for some tests/screenings unless there was a medical reason to do them. I agree that there are way too many "run through" types of physicals. I'm from a small county, and I think that our doctors probably do a more thorough job than some. The kids have to make actual appointments at the local doctors' offices and spend time with them in that setting. I just hope that the costs don't keep some students from being able to participate, but I see that being a real possibility. If the state is requiring this, how are they going to track compliance? The forms are being returned to coaches not submitted to anyone at the state level, right? I think we have decided that we are going to ask our parents to complete the medical history page from TSSAA so we will have it in case we need it. Being a little overly caution can't be a bad thing when someone's health is involved, right? Thanks again for your input, Spanarkle. You answered one big question that we've been working on all day!
  5. I understand and agree with the idea that is the basis for the new form. I just don't like the fact that I won't have a health history on hand if I had to take one of my players to an emergency room without their parent (unfortunately, that's happened to me). My biggest gripe with this new form is that I feel like it limits the information coaches will be receiving from the players and their parents. Does anyone know if the doctors's offices have been made aware of this and have received any guidelines or requirements for the types of tests/exam they will be performing. THe state department of health mentions things like blood work, vision/hearing, immunizations, and such. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like there's a lot of gray area in the explanation of the physical itself. Maybe I shouldn't worry as much either, but I am responsible for these kids when they're with me, and I want to make sure I do everything possible for them in the event that they are injured. Old fashioned? I don't know; it's just the way I treat my girls.
  6. It does help, but I'm still confused. I talked to our county's coordinator of student health today, and this is the information she gave me. It was sent via email to her this morning from a representative of the Governor's Office of Children's Care Coordination. "For students in the 7th and 9th grades, this is the only form that they will need for a physical and sports clearance. They also have to have the signed parent consent form, the one that has always been required by the TSSAA. The new form just replaces the physical exam and clearance forms." I'm concerned that a two page document with checklists and room for explanations is being replaced by a one page document. Do doctors' offices have some type of guidelines they are to follow since they will no longer be seeing the information from the players and parents? Maybe I'm just missing or not being told something by someone that will clear this up for me. Thanks for telling me what you did. It was more than I knew before.
  7. I am trying to confirm some information that was passed on to me today. I was told that there is a new or different form that incoming 9th grade athletes are to use for their participation physicals, but no one seems to know where this change originated. Did it come from the TSSAA, the state, or what? The question was raised by a middle school principal who heard about it at some meeting, but no one has seen these new forms. I'm a little concerned as to the timing of this since many students will be scheduling physicals for try-outs and participation with high school teams at summer camps. Can anyone--- coaches, administrators, ADs --- please help me on this one? I don't want to give students copies of forms that will not be honored by TSSAA. I printed copies of what was on the TSSAA web site, and I see very little difference in them and the ones we are currently using. THANKS to anyone who can shed some light on this.
  8. Why didn't CWs point guard (Jasmine?) play? Not hurt is she? Hope not... she's a good ball player. Good luck to Creek Wood tonight from Houston County.
  9. Will both region finals be played tonight? If so, what time will they be starting?
  10. Have there been any postponements for any of tonight's scheduled tournament games?
  11. Here's the bracket: #1 McEwen gets bye and will play the winner of the #4 Jo Byrns/#5 Houston County game on Wednesday at 6:00 at Hillwood. #2 East Robertson plays #7 Clarksville Academy; #3 White House Heritage plays #6 Nashville Christian. Winners meet on Wednesday at 7:30 at Hillwood. Consolation is at 4:00 on Friday; championship is at 7:00. Both games at Hillwood.
  12. Would someone please post the tournament match ups and times?
  13. does anyone know the projected match ups for next tuesday's satellite games?
  14. what does this mean for the heritage/jo byrns game tonight? will there be anything on the line for either team as far as district standings go? i think coaches' meeting is tomorrow, but if anyone knows anything now, i'd sure like to hear it.
  15. Houston County is scheduled to play at McEwen tonight, but neither county is in school today, so I guess that one is a "wait and see". That will be HC's last district game until the touraments starts, but not sure about McEwen.
  16. Saw that score and was shocked at the spread. I expected East to win but by 27? Have heard that there may be tension in the ranks at Heritage? Did you see any of that last night? Also heard that Hannah didn't play at Clarksville Academy because she was nursing an injury.... your observations? Heriatge come to Houston Co. this Friday. What can our girls expect? I think the Lady Irish played them wtihin 10-11 at their place in December. Thanks for any info. See you guys next week!
  17. Thanks for the info; I couldn't imagine Hannah not showing in the box score against CA. Thought there was probably a good reason.
  18. Congrats to Houston County and Clarksville Academy tonight on their district wins. Just saw final scores. Does anyone have details about either game?
  19. Not that the final score was a surprise, but no points for Chelsea Hannah? Not taking anything away from any other Heritage players, but I found that VERY surprising. Did she play?
  20. Spurgeon was hurt after going up to get a loose ball and falling over another player's back in HC's game against Creekwood on Monday night. Unofficial word is bruised ribs and wrist. The earliest Skelton will be playing is after Christmas.
  21. Saw the score in the Tennessean. Game details please....
  22. Thanks for the info. I didn't recognize her, so I figured she (Hobson) must be new to McEwen. Our girls travel to East Robertson this week. What's the scoop on them so far?
  23. Anyone know anything about this game? Who is the player with all the points from McEwen and how did she score them against East? I know it's early, but it looks like 10A could be up for grabs.
  24. Coaching is fine. HC is young... only one senior. Several juniors with some floor experience. Underclassmen have potential which could really help as the season progresses -- especially once they adjust to the high school game. Team's attitude is good, so hopefully it's just a matter of time before they get their act together. Big game tonight against Nashville Christian -- could be the game to get them over the hump. What about WH Heritage and East Robertson? They both had great seasons last year. Will they be the teams to beat?
  25. What are the thoughts about District 10A this year? Have there been any coaching changes? Who are your picks? Sleepers? Players to watch?
