  1. I'm not, unfortunately . I'm getting to old to try and find a seat on the visitors side and I just can't bring myself to sit on the home side, ha. Plus, the UCR guys have made it too easy for me to watch the games now so I'll just sit back in my recliner. I respect what sparta has going on. I know its a "new" coach but it sure seems like he's picked up, culture wise, where it was left off. QB is a dog. I think the obvious thing CHS has to do is try to make them beat us through the air (and i'm sure he can throw it around some). Sparta's Defense is salty too. I'm interested to see if the Cavs can move the ball on the ground. That said, I still think its upperman looking down at everyone else. Maybe Macon co can shock us tonight, we'll see.
  2. My , what an entertaining thread. upperman wins this game. They are the class of the district right now. Like or not, upperman is not baxter high school. And really CHS is no longer cookeville high school. As someone pointed out, if it was it would be the largest school in the state with nearly 3K kids instead of top 10 with only 2200-2300. The kids that "used to" or "should be" or "could be" going to CHS are few, but make no mistake, they make a difference to sports teams that compete in 4A. Add them to a good coaching staff and a community that gets behind their teams and it makes for a powerhouse.
  3. I agree they should be 2-0. They did a horrible job of tackling in week 1 vs Stone. Credit the qb and eldridge as they both had great performances that night. The Cavs still basically gave that game away late with an interception on a screen pass while trying to run out the clock. I don't think people are giving them enough credit for the win last week vs Pure academy. They are unknown and in only their 2nd year but they had some athletes and some big guys on the lines of scrimmage. Pure took Haywood down to the wire in week 1 as well.
  4. I'm going to go against the grain here and say the cavs pull it off. I think they are much improved on the lines of scrimmage this year. If they can disrupt pinion from running, they can make this a slog and a game in the 20s. I think that favors the cavs. I'm not saying pinion can't throw, in fact i think he is better than most give him credit for, but I don't think they put up 30+ by throwing the ball. Obviously if I'm wrong and the cav defense can't shoot gaps and stop that qb counter that white county killed Warren co with, then sparta will put up 40+ points and the cav offense definitely can't keep up with that. However I do think the cavaliers will be able to move the ball a little bit on the ground. Look for a trick play or two to come up big in the second half for the cavaliers! CHS 27- sparta 24
  5. Hard to beat a team 3 times. Give me Beech
  6. They had 2 back last night. The Pt guard has an ACL injury someone told me. I'm not sure about the other one. Looked like he had a boot on
  7. Cavs are extremely banged up and have been for a couple of weeks. Saturday night they had 3 in street clothes and a starting guard not there (someone said sickness). No excuses but clearly it is affecting them.
  8. Shame that we are the only 4A school in a 50 mile radius. These kids pay for the mistake the board made in the 90s for building 1 huge school instead of 2 smaller ones in town. As far as I know you all at Lebanon are the closest 4A by driving time at around 45-50 minutes
  9. Fair assessment and I agree with you on just about all of it. Too bad they are blowing this newly formed district up after only 2 years in existence
  10. Didn't your 'college level player' attend 2 other high schools before little old monterey? I mean honestly, if you don't know what you are talking about then just be quiet. Montereys best team from a few years ago had like 4 kids that lived in (and in some cases went to middle school in) Cookeville. They've even had players before that go to Cookeville High and then transfer to Monterey . You may be my new favorite user on this board.
  11. If you look at the two , compare them unbiased and blind. There is only 1 choice here. I don't mean to take away anything from any other kid who had a great season. But Dowell not getting this award is plain wrong. And this comes from a fan and alumn of a rival school. I feel absolutely gutted for the kid, his team, and school.
  12. I'll say Gallatin 35 Cavs 21 . Hope its the other way around.
  13. Cavs did torch white county with the passing attack. Record setting night for QB and receivers actually, but..... That is the only time this year we threw the ball that much. It was more out of necessity it seemed like because there was no way we were stopping their RB. Against Warren Co, CHS seemed to pick their spots throwing while trying to control the ball with the run game. My guess is to help out the defense who was trying to defend the flexbone offense of warren co.
  14. I agree completely. At the beginning of the year this was a sure Gallatin win. No question that Gallatin has some more dudes that the Cavaliers but we have really grown in the first few weeks of this season. I'm really impressed with the way CHS has gelled. Playing relatively clean football, taking care of the ball, etc. Gallatin is favored here, no doubt. But, if the Cavs can win the turnover battle early and stay in the game, they have a chance. They have found a tiny bit of a running game (still just not big enough on the line to be consistent) that really helps compliment the passing attack. Again, if the defense can't force takeaways, it could be a long night on that side.
  15. Cavaliers get a huge region road win last night against the pioneers 21-14! CHS took advantage of 2 pioneer turnovers in the first half to go into the locker room 14-0 and then took enough clock and got a stop late in the game to get the dub. I know on the state level this isn't that important but so big for a program trying to pick itself back up off the ground with a new coaching staff this year. Way to go Cavs.
  16. I don't think I've ever pulled for White Co in much of anything.... but after reading all the comments on these boards the last few weeks and learning more about the kind of kid that Dowell is, Go Warriors. That takes a lot for this old Cav , just so you know. MJGOLDENBEARS made me do the unthinkable
  17. Alright well that was fun... this Mt juliet guy is def getting invited to my next party! Go Cavs
  18. I think the Cookeville offense has clearly taken steps forward over the last couple of weeks. They've found some things that work in the passing game and even had a running back emerge that has been improving a weakness from the first 2 games. Clearly the defense is the big question mark for the Cavs. I think they can keep improving and go on the road and keep it tight against the Pioneers. I'll take the Cavs 34-28
  19. Not really sure. cookeville football has a website with some stats on them , maybe try there. I got my stat from the herald citizen
  20. Thanks for that. Mace was 32-41 for 457 passing yards, 6 TDs, and 1 INT. I was really proud of the way the offense executed and makes me excited for this program playing so many young guys in a lot of spots. Obviously MD stole the show and was simply unstoppable for our defense. He is really , very good. And I really respect the way he isn't flashy, or show-boaty. So refreshing to see out of a stud high school player these days. A good FBS program should come calling soon enough and i expect him to have a great college career somewhere. Good luck to the warriors as they continue throughout the season. Nothing but class from their program last night. Go Cavs
  21. Seems simple: tackle MD. Alot easier said than done. White county 38, CHS 21
  22. I was with you for a long time there.... I can understand fans being pumped up and excited. Of course you think your stud running back is incredible. And he is. But lets pump the breaks on that NFL talk my brother. You are starting to sound like all the parents in the middle school stands , lol. I just hope my Cavaliers can tackle him once in a while next week!
  23. I haven't seen either team play but it sure sounds like Lebanon and Oakland would be a "slobberknocker". Official Prediction: Cavs score a couple Tds early to keep it close but the blue devils athletes and depth start distancing themselves late in the 2nd quarter. Lebanon 41 Chs 14
  24. I wouldn't say any sport. If you are referring to boys basketball and football i can see your point. But many other sports "compete" and even get close to winning. Baseball has done well in the recent past, soccer has a fairly good tradition. Cross Country is at the state meet every year. Golf routinely sends teams and individuals to state. Wrestling has had good success under coach Cook, etc.. Again like my post above, it comes down to demographics. We are a rural area that chose to build one large high school (dumb) that made it hard to compete against murfreesboro, chattanooga, and now Wilson Co teams. It is what it is. And now to make matters worse, some of those athletes have begun going to baxter and monterey for different reasons (newer school, coaching changes, etc) and that just adds to it. Go Cavs
