  1. It was a rough game and LA had to fight to pull out a win. They held Lebanon to 10 points in the second half. Defense was better. Good job.
  2. Here's the schedule. http://www.herald-citizen.com/index.cfm ... 541C8B28FE
  3. I think Coach Melton lives on the same earth that someone said LA has come down to. What was he supposed to do with 2:38 left? Not call a time out to stop the run? As Bigdaddy said, maybe it was less worry and more focus. It worked. Look. All these games are gonna be fights for LA. LA and Upperman are very young and inexperienced and both are playing well enough to win when it matters. LA will only get better and better. Cannon has a good team who shoots the ball extremely well. When you shoot as well as they do, you can beat or hang with just about anyone. Congrats to them on a well played game. Good job tonight LA. It looked much better. Keep working and focus and you'll be a force by the end of the season.
  4. Don't think anyone said LA has played well. Why don't you enlighten us on reality since you seem to know more than the rest. Did someone say LA played really well against Cookeville? Yeah LA and Cookeville graduated alot. LA more than Cookeville. York didn't. What is your point, really?
  5. So what we're saying here is that Putnam County wasted a boatload of money by building those beautiful entrances all over the building at Cookeville High? By all means don't use those entrances as they were designed for the safety and convenience of basketball lovers. What a great and novel idea by whomever is in charge at CHS to bring a folding table into the gym and allow people to come into the only one of about 200 emergency exit doors that doesn't have crime scene tape X'ed across it. Are you kidding me? Does any other school use crimes scene tape all over every door? Does that look welcoming at all? To anyone? Then, after bypassing those trillion dollar entrances and all the caution tape to find that one door, the visiting crowd and huge CHS student body do have a choice as to how to get to the visiting side of the gym. They can either walk onto the court under the goal or walk across the basketball goal support to get to the other side of the gym, where the visiting crowd ventures to the opposite end to find the small section designated as the VISITOR crowd by, you guessed it, more crime scene tape. Then as the visitors sit and try to take in all the CHS hospitality, they begin to realize that there is enough extra seating that isn't pulled out that would make the CHS gym seat about as many folks as Thompson Boling Arena.Yet, visitors get one small section roped off for them. People. It's gonna be difficult, as if anyone from CHS cared anyway, to make this place seem hospitable. It would be different if you didn't have adequate facilities. How do you make this kind of treatment not seem rude? Do the few Cookeville fans not notice all this or care about how it looks? Then again maybe they do care. You have, what, 17,000 students at CHS and 23 fans?
  6. In the start of the season there was no shakey moments in sight for LA. I know they have played some very good teams on the road but they had better watch who is playing in their own back yard! Anyone can be beat any one at any given nite. Good luck to all in 8AA!!! I think LA is aware that they have to play every game and that they can be beaten. At times at Cookeville LA had two freshmen, a two sophomores, and a junior on the court. Very young team that is improving. Freshman Ramsey has led in two or three games and had 20 last night. LA is going to be very deep too. I think all these games are going to be battles. It looks like Cannon and Dekalb returned everyone and York has several seniors.
  7. looks like Cannon is doing well and I saw where Dekalb beat Warren by 20. LA beat Pickett by 20 playing without 2 starters and a recuperating point guard. LA is very young. Their schedule gets no easier as they make the trip west to play against Dyer County and Jackson Central Merry at Dyer County in their Thanksgiving Classic. What about York and Smith? And Upperman?
  8. just wait about four years....pickett will be playing LA like a guitar. And just where do you think LA is going to go?
  9. I got to watch LA yesterday in the Melrose game. Melrose is definately a very good team. White Station and Melrose are both AAA and it'll be a shame for either team to not win a state championship with the talent they have. The AAA state champion will be either White Station or Melrose for sure. Adonis Thomas, #1, is only a Junior this year and is one of the best players in the country as he is ranked #11 in the 2011 recruiting class. Also, the PG, Chris Jones, is a Junior this year as well and ranked #36 according to rivals in the 2011 class. This team is loaded with talent and athletes and all 5 starters will sign D1 scholarships. The depleted LA you saw yesterday against Melrose isn't the same LA you will see by mid and post season.
  10. Good but tough day for LA in Jackson. Two lopsided games but one was a loss. LA played a sloppy first half against Lexington but got it together in the second. Melrose is absolutely in a class all their own. I've not checked it but heard they are ranked 17 in the country? I guess that game is an 'oh well'. LA needs to get some guys healthy. I will say that even though they have started 2-1 its been a bit of a rough start. Point guard Huitt is sick and didn't play either game. Brad Jackson sprained an ankle in practice Friday and sprained the other at the start of the Lexington game and didn't play against Melrose. Kailen Melton sprained an ankle against Lexington and didn't dress against Melrose. (Not that LA would have beaten Melrose). LA started two freshmen against Melrose, McCoin and Ramsey. What a way to start their high school careers, huh? It'll be nice when LA gets everyone healthy and gets to practice and play some games with a full roster. Lots of guys stepping up and making up for the absence of others should help later in the season for this young team. Go LA!
  11. LA freshman Mason Ramsey had 20 at Red Bank.
  12. LA travels to Red Bank for a HOF tomorrow night. LA has been in AA State Tournament the last two years and Red Bank has been in the AAA State Tournament the last two years. Great early matchup here. I know that LA lost a lot in last years seniors but has a talented young team. Can they go on the road and pull out a win? Thoughts?
  13. I agree. These are scrimmage games and coaches are usually trying to get a feel for things. LA only played freshmen and sophomores most of the second half as well. When they get football players in basketball swing they're gonna be very deep.
  14. How did 8AA teams fare on the 14th? LA played at Harpeth....lost by 15 to NE...defeated CPA by 30 and Creek Wood by 40. LA is young but improving every day. Gonna be hard to beat. How did other teams do?
  15. I'll have to agree. Northeast was very impressive and I'd say the best team there. I don't think we'll ever know how good Siegel could actually be. They are so talented and deep but very undisciplined. The same goes for Hammonds... (the way he acted toward the official when he got the technical)....what a shame. To make it worse, his actions seemed to be condoned by his coach. Oh well. They are very good though. LA played better and better as the day went on. After a terrible first half against NE, LA played okay in the second half but still lost to NE by 15. LA then went on to defeat CPA by 30 and Creek Wood by 40. I think this young LA team is improving daily. GO HOGEYE!
  16. Right. It definitely doesn't offer amenities the likes of Metro Carthage.
  17. LA beat Stone by 12, Smyrna by 25, and lost to Northeast by 20. LA looked really young at times, especially in the NE game, making youthful mistakes like turnovers and rushing things. Getting football players back will make a big difference in the guard spot too. The Northeast game was close until midway through the second half when LA began to look fatigued. This was LA's third game of the day and NE's second. Not sure if that made a difference but Northeast seemed fresher. Make no mistake, though. Northeast looked very good in that game. These two play again next week at Harpeth. That's good for LA. They need this type of competition right now. I thought all teams played hard today though. Remember LA. You beat Bolivar last year in a playday and they returned the favor in the state tourney.
  18. Actually, burroballer, LA did get smacked by about 20 by Siegel. But it wasn't last year, or the year before that, or the year before that. It was Coach Melton's first year at LA in a HOF game at Pickett County in 2005. That's been a while. That must have been the only "half-way decent" team LA has played...Siegel. LOL. Hey, we're not on here knocking anyone's schedule. I think Siegel's would be tough for anyone. You are the one knocking LA's, implying their success has been a result of weak scheduling. I stated the facts about that before. What is unclear is why you are so critical of a team that is a division below you.
  19. Should the teams on LA's schedule be offended by the "half-way decent" comment? Way to go, burro......oh I mean, boro.... up2late!!!!
  20. It's posted on the Siegel Play Day thread: Stone Memorial Smyrna Clarksville Northeast
  21. I guess you are a Siegel fan, boroballer. So, I looked a little closer. The last couple of years, the only common opponent between LA and Siegel has been Cookeville. It looks like LA has fared better than Siegel against the Cavs. Funny how, I think this is LAs second or third year at Siegel's playday and haven't yet had the opportunity to play Siegel...at tleast as far as I know.
  22. Two point guards....Huitt(Junior) and McCoin(Freshman), a shooter...Hill (Junior). Hayes and Thompson (Freshmen)
  23. boroballer..... I wander what your problem with LA is? Sure it's premature of the person who started this post to be talking about the state tournament, but what do you mean by LA finally playing someone halfway decent? Have you bothered to look at LA's schedule the last couple of years? It was the 4th toughest on Coacht in AA last year and 1st in strength + success. Bearden was excused from Murphy Center last year by Northeast... a team LA had beaten twice. They also dismissed Upperman who was in the AP top 10 in the region and Tyner (with the UCONN commitment) in the substate. They also defeated CPA last year. So LA has fizzled in the state tourney the last couple of years. I'll give you that. But it's not because they haven't played any good competition. This year's schedule is even tougher...Red Bank, Melrose, Dyer County, Jackson-Central Merry, Antioch...to name a few 'halfway decent' teams. And LA may not have football players back for some of those. Your point about LA playing a weak schedule is losing ground. Can you tell? And lets not put too much into these playdays. LA beat Bolivar in a playday last year but lost to them in the state tournament. On Saturday, LA will be like some other teams will probably be....without a full roster because of football success. Here's one thing you will see out of LA, though it may not be up to boroballer's standards..... LA will be without 5 players but will work very hard to compete and try to win. This LA team is going to be young. Go ahead and count them out.
  24. How will this district shape up? Cannon County Dekalb County Livingston Academy Smith County Upperman York Institute
