  1. WB beat Sevier County. Regardless of when that happened in the season, that's all you need you know to realize why this will be a week of intense preparation for D-B. I'm looking forward to hearing more about this Gov team - they will not be overlooked by the Indians! Roll tribe!
  2. Well, Grad, just to show you how ridiculous your post was, Waco agreed with it 100%! Ouch! A team just finishes up its regular season 10-0 and some of its "fans" jump on this board and claim it won't go two rounds into the playoffs and couldn't beat Bearden. You've got to be kidding. Let me tell you a little secret - every team that D-B plays gets up for their game with D-B. Bar none. The Oak Ridge team that D-B played early on was not the team that W-B played. By the WB game, it had lost its starting quarterback to injury and 4 starters were suspended for that game including the 2nd team quarterback. Some other teams beat a struggling OR team, but not D-B. "Barely pull off a win over two lower rated teams?" D-B kneeled twice on the 5 yard line to close out the Bearden game. Would you have preferred style points so the score could have been 17-6? Or maybe score and go for 2 so it could be 18-6? Sevier, a lower ranked team? Did you even look at the stats on their players - the size, the speed, the returners and the fact that Coach Clark picked them to finish first in the conference? That was a great win and proof that this team has as much heart as any you've seen. How could anyone watch the game against Science Hill and say this team needs to get its heart back in the game? Did you see the goal line stand early? Did you ever see Science Hill threaten again? Do we need to eliminate some drive killing penalties? Yes, but that means you need to get your head, not your heart in the game. And by the way, holding can be called on every play... Having wrapped up the #1 seed and field advantage last week, do you really think Coach Clark should bring out all the weapons and show what this team is capable of offensively? Come on... get behind this group of young men. Don't be a lukewarm fan like some... This Indian team has shown heart, determination and worked their butts off for every game they've played - and if you can't see that, you don't know much about the game or this team. Roll Tribe! All the way to Murfreesboro!
  3. "A lot of DB defenders picking themselves up after plays." Yeah, too bad there were SH backs under them! I think anyone who thought this Science Hill team would be a pushover was uninformed. They have size, they have speed and on a wet field when D-B had nothing but pride on the line, they played an inspired game and stayed within 2 touchdowns of Region 1's #1 team. Congratulations to the Toppers on a hard fought game and good luck against Ooltewah next week! To our Indians, with the conclusion of an undefeated regular season, I can only say, "Fantastic!" After every game, the other side would say, but we have better backs, but our line is bigger, but our quarterback is better - and after every game, they were faced with going back and figuring out how they lost. This Indian team has more pride, more heart, more team chemistry, more ability to make each other better than any team I've been privileged to watch. We're proud of what you've accomplished! Now, what do you say you strap it on and march to Murfreesboro! Roll Tribe!
  4. That's funny Boonie! Now go back to your coloring books! The Indians will have John Mark, Trevor and Daniel back this week for some offensive work. We've been treated to some outstanding play by young men who have stepped up and developed quality depth for the Tribe. The Indians need to stay focused, improve in all phases of their game and most importantly, wrap up homefield advantage for the first round! See you in Jacksboro! Roll Tribe!
  5. I believe he said "best game in Region 1 5A that hasn't included DB in a long long time." You may not agree with that either, but no one's making the claim you attributed to Art. As for this game, having seen both of these teams this year I predict a fun game to watch and fully expect an offensive show. Both have QBs that can throw and run and receivers who can make big plays. Give the home team a slight edge, but only because it's at home. Good luck to both - a hard fought, injury free game! Roll Tribe!
  6. For the record, there was no inteception or roughing the passer penalty on the last drive. That was the drive before. So Buckeye, go watch the film "over and over" again until you are "over" it! Roll Tribe!
  7. Congratulations to all the Senior Indians who will be honored tonight and to their parents who encourage and support them! Happy Homecoming! Roll Tribe!
  8. Everybody's entitled to their opinion, but having the best one or two players on a team doesn't necessarily make that group the best "team. " We won't be able to compare the 2006 edition of the Tribe to the '98 or 2000 version until the season is over. At that point, we'll know for sure how far these Indians went and that will be the undisputed test of which team was GC's "best." Until then, you've got to appreciate Art's enthusiasm! Good teams get up for the big games, great teams get up for all of them! Flatten the Beavers! Roll Tribe!
  9. You'll get no respect from D-B on that post. You won't play another team that will hit you any harder than the Indians. Neither will you play another team that will hit you as clean as the Indians. I seriously doubt you watched that massacre a second time on film, but if you did you might have noticed several officials standing around who didn't see things your way either. Roll Tribe!
  10. Congratulations, Indians on an amazing game and superb effort! Thanks to both the Tribe and the Bears for the best entertainment to be found on a Friday night! And as if the game weren't enough - we heard two of the best bands anywhere. The President of the Rose Bowl Parade was present and he has to be beaming! The Tribe defense keeps getting better. The line tangled with the largest, most athletic offensive line we've faced and while those younguns kept the beef at bay, some of the surest tacklers (LBs) in Tennessee high school football finished off the play. Our secondary coverage was excellent and many times when a Smokey Bear caught the ball, they paid the price. The Smokey Bear touchdown pass resulted when a D-B defender slipped down. Those things happpen, but the safety got over so quickly it almost looked like he was the one beaten on the play. Great game! What can you say about an offense that simply refused to lose? The writers for Friday Night Lights couldn't have scripted it better. Congratulations, Bo & Coty - you two will get the limelight and you deserve it, but we all know that was a team effort - especially from young men who stepped in for Trevor and Daniel and dared anyone to think of them as second team. Ten years from now when the announcer is talking about Dobyns-Bennett in Football History, they'll talk about this game. And for those posters who want to get on here and talk about D-B being big headed and arrogant and all that baloney - let's be real clear - you may be talking about a few posters on here but don't dare attribute that to the players on this team. You only have to listen to the post game interviews of Bo Burton and Cotey Sensabaugh to know that. Bo attributed this win to his teamates toughness, as did Coty who dedicated his performance to the grandmother he lost earlier in the week. No player on this team underestimated the athleticism or the toughness of the Smokey Bear team they faced last night. I have mixed feelings - I think there's a good chance we'll see the Bears in the playoffs if the Tribe does its job, but who wants to see a team that good a second time? Time will tell, but the Indians are a team dedicated to moving from good to great and they took a giant step last night. How they handle that success will tell us more! Way to go , Indians! We're proud of each of you. Trevor, Daniel, John Mark - get well! Coty our thoughts are with you and your family after your loss. Roll Tribe!
  11. Looks like D-B will have the home field advantage and most likely the edge in the kicking game. Both teams better bring their A game to have a chance at winning. Control of the Big East Conference is at stake! You gotta love Friday nights! Roll Tribe!
  12. "neither is imposing up front..." Well, one of 'em is! Roll Tribe!
  13. Great game, Indians! To understand what it took to beat a very good Bulldog team you have to realize what this team overcame this week - the death of an inspirational classmate, the understandable absence of its noisiest fan (only the largest marching band anywhere in Tennessee), a plague of strep and flu and the emotional drain of a huge rivalry game in week 1. Hat's off to the Indians and the coaching staff. D-Line - great game - Davis, Kramer, Preston, Lecklikner, Salyer. Stopped the rush, set up the LBs, pressure the passer - especially the 4th quarter. 49 yards rushing for the Bulldogs - OUTSTANDING! Coach Watson's a genius! Keep it up - nuff said! The Bulldogs will be a dangerous opponent for any team they face this year - well coached and well disciplined. How they kept the offensive line from jumping with all the hard counts is amazing. Looking forward to a trip to the Ship! Roll Tribe!
  14. Congratulations to Coach Wilson! Well deserved. Indian fans are looking forward to seeing two well coached ball teams tomorrow night. Roll Tribe!
  15. OK, Stan, not sure exactly what your point is, but I'll admit that first quarters matter. If you want a DB fan's perspective it didn't have anything to do with how "easy" South made it for D-B but how hard the Indians made it for the Rebels. This was no inexperienced South squad, but a highly touted offensive machine with a D-1 prospect in the driver's seat. Check the previous posts and the Johnson City Press and tell me I'm wrong. Did South have to adjust with a new center? Sure, but they had at least a couple of days of practice to do that and D-B had to make the same adjustment during the game. This game was about respect - the Indians didn't have it before this game, they do now. While you can't make comparisons to other teams in the past yet, I do think this one understands that it has to earn that respect every week. A personal viewpoint and I suspect most of the Indian fans feel this way - South is a better team than Thursday's score indicates and the Indians were the beneficiary of some tremendous momentum they created early in that game. With only two games under their belt against quality 4A opponents - they are good, very good - they are not great, yet, but they are on the right path! Roll Tribe!
  16. "Indian defense is not as advertised" - sorry guys, don't know what advertising you've seen, but the only publicity for the Indian defense has been for the linebacking corps and those guys played very well last night. The defensive line faced a massive front without their starting nose guard and by the second half they dominated virtually every play by blowing guys off the ball that outweighed them by 80 - 100 pounds. Zack Kramer and Daniel Preston stepped up big time. They have to pressure the quarterback more, but anyone who watched that game knows they were facing a pretty special QB in Smith. Two big hits by linebackers resulted in turnovers and Ben Davis' return of a fumble almost matched total rushing for the Cyclones who had only 59 yards - pretty good night for the D-line and the backers. I'd like to see a few more blitzes to pressure the passer, but hey, maybe next week... Now what about that much maligned secondary? They have got to improve coverage, no doubt and we're all looking for the Hammer who will step up and hit like Jessee Alley did last year. But the big touchdown by Betsy that was called back in the first half was by a receiver that was covered by a lineman, ie, ineligible. You don't have to cover ineligible receivers, so is anyone surprised he was wide open. Another long pass play resulted when an Indian DB batted the ball down; unfortunately, into the hands of a Betsy player who was on his back (not to take anything away from what was a great catch) but that's not "freshman" coverage. Another long pass play should arguably have been a fumble recovery for DB if you believe the receiver had control. But this is the first game of the season for the refs and calls went both ways. The defense will get better - the score was 35-7 against a very much improved Cyclone team - and I suspect this game will go a long way toward preparing for South than Happy Valley will go toward preparing for the Tribe. Phillips is good - but he hasn't been hit like D-B's gonna hit. Offense - what can you say? In the opening game they looked like they had three or four games under their belt. That comes from scrimmaging competition like Maryville. Waco and Direwolf, I think I figured out where you're coming from and I really don't disagree - "good to great" is a season long journey, but this team is good - make no mistake! Roll Tribe!
  17. For a guy who's on here constantly you can really show your ignorance sometimes. In addition to some major contributors Skunk added, John Mark Bouchillon will also be a rising senior as well as Nathan Miller and Philip Lechlickner. By the way, in a 3-5 defense, linebackers dominate when there is outstanding defensive line play. You had that last year and you're going to see it again this year.
  18. Lighten up Tears, the Bulldawg's for real, the hype is for fun Roll Tribe!
  19. The Hebda family will be in our prayers, Coach - and the fact that you were out there with them speaks volumes of the Clarksville wrestling family. God bless.
  20. Any idea how the weight classes break out - do you expect good participation in the upper weights - 189, 215, 275?
  21. Congratulations, gablefan - this must be in the top ten dumbest posts ever on CoachT!
  22. Congratulations, Indians!!! You've overcome some major handicaps to beat two excellent football teams. We're proud of everyone of you! Trojan fans, my hat's off to your guys. I didn't have any idea your quarterback was playing hurt - what an effort! D-B's receivers were impressive if for no other reason than being able to hold on to the ball after Trojan defenders hit them. Well coached defense and some text book tackles. Three to go, Tribe - keep your eye on the prize! Roll Tribe!
  23. Where does the time go??? Same point though - guys are still there that are inspired by his example and accomplishment!
  24. Not sure how the weight classes will shake out with all the new weight certification, but Coach Mann will have this team very competitive this year - believe it! thumb And the future of DB wrestling is looking good. They've always benefitted from a good AAU feeder program, but Buzzy has provided the support needed to get a wrestling program started at both Kingsport Middle Schools. A good feeder program is the key to a successful high school program over the long haul. With the school's first state champ last year a lot of guys got to see what it takes to win at that level. Wrestling in Kingsport is on the move! Roll Tribe!
