  1. I don't know about LC for years to come....When I saw them(freshman this year) in the summer for a few games they were awful weak....I have seen DC's freshman twice this year against Obion Central...They beat them real bad a couple of weeks ago(OC played without three starters and a top reserve)but last Thursday OC got beat 68-60(with those players back) in Newbern....They are good though Do you know who all is in the holiday tournament LC is playing in??
  2. Well,Humboldt already had the chance and didn't in their own gym.....Lake County won't....Dyer co wouldn't come to UC to play and Manassas will have to play their way there way to a match-up with the Tornadoes... And you based your opinion on a game against Gleason??..Come on man..They never have size and they don't even impress their own fans when they play sorry teams such as Gleason.... I thought Gleason was way overated though.... Did you appreciate coach Sisco for holding the score down on the Bulldogs??..I know this was a sore spot with folks last year...UC brought 18 to the game and all played and 15 scored....UC could have beaten Gleason with their JV team... But,I have to say you got us in girls basketball and football so you got a 2-1 lead so far...But boys basketball??..It aint gonna happen...
  3. They will be tested for sure against Milan....Posten and Gray will be too much for them....
  4. bigster the UC coaches take nobody for granted...I'm sure Marty was there to scout Trenton Peabody since they play Monday nite...UC doesn't play LC until January...He probably saw all he needed to on LC...Just like back in Whitby's OC days, you see em once you have seen em all you need to... Why wouldn't DC and LC play??....Oh that's right LC doesn't play anybody decent in non-region games...Ya'll could have played a home and home this year.... /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Simple fact of the matter is DC had room on their schedule...Union City didn't..If UC would have had room for a home and home the two would be playing....DC didn't want to come to UC and play...Period Congrats on the win...Looks like if the Falcons would have had that kind of effort against Humboldt they might still be unbeaten....Maybe Trenton is still more like last year though...
  5. Do you guys at Dyersburg complaining about Bowling and his use of your talent not remember Obion County Central running that offense??..It was the hardest offense in Reg.7-3A to defense...BTW,the only guy that really had any success against it was the guy you are talking about taking over and that was P.A. Pratt....You did notice P.A. and his Cavaliers almost got ya'll this season??....Do you think Obion Central had superior talent when they were piling up those offensive numbers against this strong region??...Hardly... The problem wasn't the coach..As much as you want to blame a 10-2 season(LOL) on him,you need to look at the players who DID NOT BUY INTO THE SYSTEM!!..That's a personal problem each and everyone of those players have to deal with....Those boys had to learn the system and until the last part of the season they didn't have a grasp of it....You may have to look at things why you had a kid quit after a game(Attitudes of INDIVIDUAL players will have an affect on other members of the team, sort of like a cancer)....To me the defense is what let you down in the Dyer County and Mitchell games.... The truth of the deal is Bowling is going back home...Obion County had become real close to Bowling and the folks in Union City have great respect for the man...That's not something that comes easy when you are a coach at Obion Central...The program at UC sort of had a "look down their nose" attitude about the OC program until Bowling got there and beat the Tornadoes down for 4 years straight... The problem at Dyersburg might just be the people staring at you when you look in the mirror...
  6. Now the question arises of who will remain on the staff??.... I would think that Tony Butler would be retained...He is a very energetic young coach...He has alot of enthusiasm for the game and is tough.....Mack Moore is very popular with the players and could very helpful in certain situations...Derrick Pritchard is another young coach who spent his time during games on the headset on top of the pressbox but I don't really know much about him....Tracy Bruff is a former teammate of mine who is helping out as a paraprofessional..He is a good man but I don't know what his plans are for the future....David Barker is/was the defensive coordinator....Anybody close to the program knows nothing else should be said about that... If Fishel takes a job at another school will he take some of these assistants with him?? Union City will have speed to burn next season...The QB coming in will probably be Chase Bowling,Darren's son...Who else will know the Bowling offense better than his son??...The Tornadoes will have a bevy of runningbacks to chose from,Josh Nicks and Kendrick Price will return both will be juniors next season....One of those will probably be the "S" back in the offense...Slots will be strong with a choice of Cameron Sherwood,Cameron Graham and some of the freshman coming up....The freshman class this year was strong in skill positions but lacked a little in the lines...The class coming in next season from 8th grade was strong in the lines...The offensive and defensive lines are going to have to improve dramitically because they will be asked to do more run-blocking,something they haven't had to do much the last couple of years...They will have to play more physical, something I think the spread offense takes away from you... The defense will have to improve 100% next season...Union City had the talent to make a run deep in the playoffs this season..They just honestly didn't have the defense to do it...They had about 3 really good defensive players but you really can't stop anybody going 3 on 11....I bet you right now the Tornadoes WILL dress out in full pads during practice every day except Thursday and I bet you they will hit and do individual hitting drills everyday...Get ready for that boys...I have seen that first-hand.... I was really glad to see that the UC administration got this done fast...UC usually goes through spring practice in Febuary..Bowling, although, held spring practice at OC in May..But either way the players will become accustomed to Bowling and he will get to know the players before they hit the field next August...There will be alot of learning both ways because this is an offense that usually takes about two years to get down..There will be learning pains because this offense is all set up on timing and they may look like Ned and the third reader out there for awhile....If they can get the defense to stop people it will help out tremendously.... GOOD LUCK TO THE TORNADOES ON A GREAT 2008 SEASON!!
  7. If you will go to the T.$.$.A.A. website and go to the bulletin board you will see the requirements SF is looking for...Compared to the rest of the job postings it's much more in-depth... BTW....Fishel has five years experience... That five year experience thing may indicate that the administration doesn't want any of the current assistants...
  8. Union City beat Gleason tonite as expected 85-55....18 played for the Tornadoes and 15 of them scored.....Led by Andre' Coby who had 18 points....Much tougher test Monday nite in Union City when Trenton Peabody comes to town....
  9. The game you are talking about was either the Chatt Tyner game or the Alcoa game....Tyner scored a TD with a little over a minute left to beat us 13-10 and Alcoa stopped us at the one yard line on 4th down to beat us 27-20 after we trailed 27-0 at half....Trousdale game in 05 was much like the one you guys had with South Pittsburg...
  10. Well the Rebels great start got derailed a little tonite in a loss at Munford 61-50.... Another fourth quarter meltdown cost the Rebels a chance to get win #8..... OC had made a good comeback in the third quarter after struggling in the first half and trailing 31-24 at half...OC outscored the Cougars 19-9 in the third quarter to go up 43-40 entering the 4th quarter...After scoring the first 3 points of the 4th to go up 46-40 the Rebels shut down and the Cougars outscored them 18-0 to go up 58-46..The Rebels were awful at the charity stripe going 4-16 for the game... Cory Gibson led the Rebels in scoring with 21 points followed by Nick Gilliam with 13 and Justin Owens added 11... The Rebels play Saturday night(weather permitting)in Clinton,Ky against the Hickman Co Falcons in a boys only contest...
  11. Butchie "gets it" on here...This web-site is all about having fun...He has fun and gets under people's skin and those people take everything so serious and he just reels them in....I do the same thing on the basketball threads....I know Butchie doesn't do basketball but he should go see some of the stuff we say and the response we get.... I don't think I have said it yet but CONGRATS on getting to The Boro....There is NOTHING like seeing the team you support and for some of us the team we used to play for come out of that tunnel or that endzone onto the turf of MTSU....You know you have made it then as a program....I haven't had the pleasure of seeing the team I support win one yet,I've seen three runnerups but still the run to get there is awesome..... Congrats to South Pittsburg..They came out ready to play and had one of those dream games you hope for when you get there.....
  12. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" /> ...I stand corrected..I guess people will vote for Union City...They are # 1....But,it's still a meaningless poll,especially this one...
  13. You better hope those boys pass this semester so they will be eligible after Christmas...LOL!! And polls are meaningless..UC has finished two of the last three seasons ranked #1 in the state(once in AA)...The state championship they won two years ago saw them go without being ranked by the AP the entire year... I guess you mean the fan-based popularity poll??...AGAIN MEANINGLESS!!!...People won't vote for Union City just because...LOL
  14. I played against Big Bill Moody....He was a beast...
  15. I agree with your last statement 100%..... Congrats on the Union City administration on this two for one deal.....I know Bowling because my oldest son played for him 4 years at Obion Central...Bowling is the reason my son is now in college and pursuing a goal to be a teacher/coach someday.....I know first hand that this a top-notch guy...I have also heard great things about Wes Kennedy....I know people at Dyersburg will feel more than a little jilted but you know sometimes once you get over to those perceived greener pastures they are just filled with manure and you realize maybe you made a mistake in the first place by going there.... Darren Bowling is what this tradition-rich program needs...He will junk the spread offense, count on that...This team will be more physical, count on that...This team will run the same offense that Obion Central ran and with better athletes....The UC team is young but very experienced..They played a bunch of sophs this past season and they have a very good freshman class coming up.... Bowling will see a marked decline in competition....I noticed this,I already knew it,but it became painfully clear that overall,top-to-bottom Region 7-1A is NOWHERE near the level 7-3A is....I had spent four seasons watching my oldest son playing the Covington's(who his team beat twice when the Chargers were #1 in the state),Crockett County's(who were much better than this past years Cavalier squad),Dyersburg(who was also ranked #1 in the state)Haywood,Ripley and Dyer County....There won't be any of this losing to Gleason anymore with Bowling and Kennedy around....I really think that loss right there was the final nail in Coach Fishel's coffin by the way..... I want to commend Barry Duncan also...Duncan is the principal/athletic director at UCHS....Believe me,there is nobody that wants UC winning at football again more than Duncan....He was my position coach when I played for the Tornadoes and he became known as one of the best offensive line coaches in the state....I know he made the right decision because I know how he is with the "little things"...He is very attentive to detail..Meticulous....I guaratee you he did his homework on these two choices and I know he did it on the other 24 or so applicants as well.... This is an exciting time to be a Tornado, either currently or an alumni like myself...... Things just got alot more interesting in Region 7-1A....
  16. Lord knows it used to be........ A couple of months ago Channel 2 ran a couple sub-state games with Robin Cude playing...They beat a couple of Memphis teams, the names escape me,but you couldn't even hear ole Danny announcing the game over the noise...Robin dropped 50-something in one of those games...Unbelievable atmosphere...
  17. 4th..Don't leave all the people hanging or wondering about why U.C. and Dyer Co aren't playing or that Dyer Co had their chance and backed out..You make it look like they were scared to play U.C.....Believe me...there's a poster above ..I'll just say..clj..he will come as close as any of us for knowing the reason why ..he has very very close ties to the Dyer Co program...He said the reason was...Union City wanted to play 1 game only..At Union City...McCord balked at that..Said Dyer Co would play a home and home..Why accomodate U.C. and make the Dyer Co fans travel and play U.C. at U.C.And not get a home game in return ..That said..Union City plays a bunch of games..Why wouldn't they play Dyer Co at Newbern..At least Dyer Co was willing to play home and home..but Cisco wanted a little home cooking..I wouldn't have played either.. bigster I'm really glad you are on here....LOL...You don't get snared by the traps we set...Very often.... You as well as anybody knows the problem that the teams in our district have with scheduling.....We have 18 set in stone games every year....The T.$.$.A.A. in all it's majesty has limited the number of games teams can play now down to 24 regular season games...Now that severely limits the number of non-region games our teams can play verses say a district with 7 teams(like DC's) who have only 12 definate games...UC is going to play Obion Central, usually twice, but this year once...UC plays in two holiday tournaments that guarantee them three games each...Now,those three tournament games only count as two games apiece....But that now brings the total of games to 23...The Tornadoes are going to play nine road games right off the bat out of 24....They will play 6 games away from home in those tournaments, which really count as four...Well,that makes 13 out of 24 on the road...Over half...UC needs to play home games to pay the bills,So why would they just say yeah we will go on over to Dyer County, who was a Final Four team with most, if not all, their guys back from that team and play them??...Don't get me wrong,I don't really blame DC for not doing that but since they have so much room on their schedule they could have set up a deal like UC and Haywood had where they play one game each year against each other but do it home and home...It could have been done if DC wanted it done...You can't blame UC for not wanting 14 out of their 24 regular season games on the road....
  18. I thought this athletic period was dealt with statewide with the new schedule the T.$.$.A.A. came up with last year....
  19. I give props out to teams who earn respect...Lake County and Humboldt got my respect...Don't mean I won't trash talk 'em though.... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> People need to stop being so serious on here and stop taking things so personal.....Just my opinion..... /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" /> All you haters would actually like me and ucididitagain if you knew us...Really you would... /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" /> I think she is on the Dyer County threads... /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" />
  20. "35" is young too, only a soph...Played the majority of the game in foul trouble and was maybe a little frustrated...Maybe these two will have a good battle when the Lady Rebels come to Milan....
  21. Thanks Dr.Phil, but I feel just fine about myself..... Pull for whoever you want.... The fourth quarter saw Josh Battee,Kendhal Warren,K.J. Brooks,Tyler Stewart-Crume,Cam Callicott and maybe Antonio Cox play..M.J. would not have been in the game in the 4th quarter of a 30+ point game.... I didn't notice "tremendous strides"..What I did notice was Union City forcing G'Field into 12 turnovers on their first 15 possessions without applying their fullcourt pressure...What I did notice was Union City scoring 17 straight points after allowing G'Field the first point of the game, effectively putting to rest any chance G'Field had of winning the game....What I did notice was that UC only applied their press on about 10 possessions the entire game....What I did notice was that G'Field has one good player and that is Reggie McHaney(yeah that makes me feel pretty good)... And...It usually doesn't matter if it's early or late,we pretty much talk trash all year..... Don't worry so much about what UC fans say...Worry more about trying to finish around 6th in the district.... See you guys in January,we'll see if you have made any more significant strides...
  22. Well,my friend whether you are a senior or a freshman, you are ALL Rebels....If you could get them to do it once, they would do it all the time....Good Luck to you and don't give up...Even if you could get half the student body to show up that would be 500 kids...That's a heckuva lot of noise..I thought that thing ya'll did when the boys came out on the court with Aldo Nova blaring was pretty cool...
  23. /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" /> Would be a force on the boards...... /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  24. I would say in response to that if Ward was given the opportunity to take the job at Union City why would he stay at Camden??....Have you seen the facilities at Union City??....Union City has alot of tradition and the right man will have all the tools he will need to take Union City where people here want them..In Murfreesboro playing for and winning Gold Balls....
