  1. I went to the game last night..It was my first opportunity to see the Rebels and Lady Rebels play...The crowd was disappointing..It was sparse..Even had the upper deck on the end closed off...You would think with a match-up of two of the better AA girls teams in the state playing and a boys team going in at 6-2 the crowd would have been bigger especially seeing as how this was the last game of three at home this week.....The Lady Rebels are the Lady Rebels but the boys program is on the upswing and are playing pretty good ball right now...They have a real shot at two more wins this week to go to 9-2....Back in the day,it didn't matter who or what was going on in the community,The Pit would be full to the rafters and so loud you couldn't hear yourself think.... The Rebel Train leaders need to get all those students sitting in individual groups together...You all could have a huge student section if you did that....I guess some kids don't think that's too cool though...With Central Station full and as loud as it can get in there,it would be a HUGE home court advantage....
  2. I love how Greenfield fans say Union City is beatable...Why don't we just let Shane play his main players the whole game, press on every possession and score about 150 on you and your team score about 20(maybe)...No we can't do that because we will be running the score up...Just like chipper said....UC could spot Greenfield 25 points and UC would still win by 25 or more...Just thank your lucky stars Sisco has bigger fish to fry than blowing Greenfiled clean out of Weakley County.....He is trying to prepare his team for the postseason so nothing like last year happens to the Tornadoes this season and also get his young players in since he has 7 seniors on this year's team...Like I said on another thread,it must be nice to be able to use district games as practice sessions.... BTW....Every fan of the Tornadoes knows they are beatable, just like every other team that puts on a basketball uniform every night....But,I will guarantee you this, they won't lose too many.... Now to the DC people sneaking in on this thread....Why don't you ask your coach why he wouldn't play Union City this year??...It could've happened...The reason Jackson Central-Merry is on the Tornado schedule is because DC wouldn't come to Union City and play.... Again BTW...M.J. put in 22 on Greenfield last nite and led all UC SCORERS..... /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />....What else do you want???
  3. Had I known E.J. wasn't playing I would have picked Lake County.... /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> Scoreboard has Humboldt winning 73-56...
  4. Milan didn't have an answer for either Roney or Fussell....Chassidy played a really good game.....Nobody from Milan could match-up with her..... 71-47....Big win for the Lady Rebels
  5. Union City wins big again at Greenfield tonite 92-70
  6. Vaughn wasn't a factor....OC wins 62-50 to improve to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the district....Big win for the Rebels.. To be honest I'm not sure why there was so much optimism about this Bulldog team....They are not that good....I see them and Crockett battling it out for last place...
  7. No,UC was ahead at half......UC actually outscored Bradford something like 51-17(I guess you can call that struggling) in the second and third periods....UC only scored 4 points in the 4th quarter playing all the freshmen and allowed 15.... UC used the game to practice half-court defense...They did not press at all in the first half....It must be nice to use a district game as a practice session /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" /> ....Don't be fooled by the 20 point win,it was a blowout... Union City went down to Halls and beat them with the Tigers shooting well from the outside 98-72 and UC has already beaten Humboldt, holding double-digit leads for alot of the game,in Humboldt.... BTW,Wade and and Epperson won't be in the foul situation you speak of because they are more disciplined than Geanes and Avery... I don't read too much into the LC-Halls score because for some reason Whitby seems to coach these kids by putting them at a disadvantage.....Look throughout the years at some of the scores LC will beat teams by...Seems they will struggle with teams they should straight murk and then beat a Humboldt 5 out of 6 times.....It's sometimes hard to get a read on this team..I guess you would have to see them every night to understand them....
  8. I've said it before and I will say it again..... If Manassas is to beat Union City it will have to be if they meet up in Memphis for a sub-state game....If Manassas comes to UC,Manassas will lose...If they meet up in the state tournament,Manassas will lose.....Seen it too many times with too many Memphis teams that were better than this one... Don't let Westside beating Trenton in the sub-state last year give you any sense of security...Peabody way behind Union City,Humboldt and Lake County...They just got lucky in the one game they had to win....UC put up 130,119 and I believe 103 on Peabody last year..If memory serves me Trenton was 1-10 in games against the "Big Three" last year....AND Union City would have put up that many on either Westside or Manassas last year..... Only the "Mercy Rule" and the fact UC is losing seven seniors and Sisco is trying to get his young players alot of playing time is keeping from UC putting 100+ on the board this season....
  9. Maybe with this being the only game out of three at home this week and the girls game being a very big match-up,there will be a big crowd to support the Rebels and Lady Rebels....I think if the Rebels are fortunate to get out to a big lead they will hold it with the crowd behind them...If they could get the support going like they did back in the Whitby Pit years and as loud as the the new gym can get (ex.the OC-UC game last year) these teams would be very tough to beat at home....Win and the support will come....You have to defend your home court I think OC wins this one 71-63......
  10. I had heard all that also....I didn't want to post it because I thought people would think I was crazy....Now if we could only get Coach Duncan to take over that offensive line... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> I also heard Chris Hill(another former OC head coach) had put his application in.... The senior-to-be-class was the one that went all the way to the West Tn championship when they were 8th graders and finally lost their first game to that unbelievable Memphis team....I heard there was at least one basketball player that was a force on that team may go back out for the team and a really good baseball player...Those may just be rumors though....
  11. LC fans will see where their team stands after this week....Seems like the Falcons have Humboldt's number winning 5 of the 6 meetings between the two since the Vikings moved down to 1A....Humboldt is a real good team...It would not shock me to see Lake County pull this one out but I'm going to say Humboldt will win by 5-8 points.....
  12. I'm talking about the district tournament, not the regular season....
  13. Thanks for pointing that out about DeMatha....I didn't go Friday nite and was going by the program... I also heard where Paducah Tighlman beat Mem Briarcrest but do not know the score...
  14. Schedule for the Battle for State tournament.... Thursday Dec.20 Game 1....Haywood County vs Independence....4:00 PM Game 2....UNION CITY vs Mt. Juliet......5:30 PM Game 3....Riverdale vs Sycamore.....7:00 PM Game 4....Brentwood Acd vs Livingston Acd....8:30 PM Friday Dec.21 Game 5....L G4 vs L G1....4:00 PM Game 6....L G3 vs L G2....5:30 PM Game 7....W G3 vs W G2....7:00 PM Game 8....W G4 vs W G1....8:30 PM Saturday's games start at 11:00am and end with the championship game being played at 3:30 PM
  15. I see you are from Nashville...Go see them play at Lipscomb University at The Battle for the State tournament on Dec.20....They open up with Mt.Juliet @ 5:30pm MJ Brown was voted Mr Basketball last season and is being recruited...Has offers on the table from UTM and Murray State... Union City is tied for third place state-wide with 4 state championships...They beat Brentwood Acd in 1990....Alcoa in 1992....Memphis Melrose in 1997.....Chattanooga Grace Baptist in 2006......3 in AA and 1 A ball Union City has the last two Mr Basketball award winners in 1A....They actually have 4 awards between 3 players...Marquis Weddle won it two years ago..Stanley Caldwell won the award back-to-back in 91 and 92... Union City has been to the state tournament 16 times and have a 22-14 overall record... Recent history has seen Union City win 30+ games the last three years in a row and have either been ranked #1 or been state champions to end each of those seasons.... Union City annually plays a very strong schedule....
  16. I was looking at a thread about home court advantages in East Tennessee and got to wondering about what UC's record at home was the last few years.... The Tornadoes have won 41 out of their last 42 games played in the Thunderdome the last five seasons... What about some other West Tennessee teams at home??.........
  17. Same with me about Humboldt...Seems like the the key is finishing third in the district tournament....UC finshed third in the district tournament two years ago and won the state championship...Humboldt finished third last year in the district tournament and went on to the state tournament....UC,Humboldt and LC have to stay away from each other in the region semis...Problem is,only one team will do that....
  18. Just wondering...What exactly is the right way??....
  19. Same can be said about OC....The difference in the game was Roney being out.... It would have been a barn-burner with her in there....The Lady Pioneers were nailing those three pointers...They hit 12 in all....
  20. I bet that Shelbyville's girls game was good...I think Lexington Christian is two-time defending champion in Kentucky....I know they won it all last year...
  21. No,I'm sorry I didn't..... Here was the line-up for the first two days... Thursday had... Marshall Co,Ky vs Muhlenburg North,Ky...Girls Marshall Co,Ky vs Muhlenburg North,Ky...Boys Shelbyville,Tn vs Carbondale,Ill....Boys Lexington Christian,Ky vs Shelbyville,Tn..Girls Friday had... Marshall Co,Ky vs Massac County,Ill...Girls Graves County,Ky vs Vienna,Ill..Boys....I do know Graves won this game in OT Paducah Tighlman,Ky vs Mem Briarcrest,Tn..Boys.....Leslie McDonald was the big name in this one DeMatha,Md vs Jackson Provine,Miss....Boys....DeMatha won this one Saturday Morning had... Paducah Tighlman,Ky vs Obion Co Central,Tn...Girls....OC won this one 78-42 Calloway Co,Ky vs Milan,Tn...Girls....Milan won Massac Co,Ill vs Jefferson City, Missouri...Boys University Heights,Ky vs Lafayette,Missouri...Boys...UH won this one
  22. Heard yesterday that the Rebels were invited and accepted an invitation to play in the Marshall County Hoopfest next season.....
  23. The Rebs came away with a big road win against Gibson County but now have to turn their attention to Milan as they come into Troy Tuesday nite....The Rebs also travel to Munford on Friday for their rematch with the Cougars and then travel up to Clinton,Ky Saturday to play Hickman County.....Would be good to get these three winnable games and hit the 9 win mark and go 2-0 in the district...
  24. I went to the Marshall County Hoopfest yesterday to waste a little time on a rainy Saturday afternoon and came away impressed by the event... Now I know some of you out there will say there are better events out there and there probably are but anyway I got to see some very good players on some pretty good teams in front of a very packed house at Marshall County High School... Some of those players were Scotty Thompson from University Heights,Ky(Mississippi State)...He is a 6'7" senior that had a great game in his team's win over Lafayette,Missouri...I got to see the big 6'9" soph who has already committed to the Universty of Kentucky,Dakotah Euton from Rose Hill Christian,KY...His team lost to the host school,Marshall County....Joe Jackson, though only a soph, was billed as the best point guard in Memphis..He plays for White Station...His team beat Pinckneyville,Ill and Jackson did not disappoint as he won game MVP honors....The Spartans also have a 6'6" freshman you might be hearing about down the road in Marvin Williams...White Station beat Pinckneyville....The feature game was Oak Hill Academy playing Chicago Hales Franciscan...The Warriors opened up a close game midway through the third quarter and blasted the team from Chicago...Brandon Jennings is something else for Oak Hill.He scored a game-high 34 points and just took over in the Oak Hill's run..Other notable players in that game were Jennings as he is ranked as the #1 high school player....Keith "Tiny" Gallon, who at 6'9" 300 lbs is the country's 5th ranked player..Big body and was unstoppable in and around the goal....Glenn Bryant,6'7" 180 who is junior jumping jack..Had some outstanding dunks...They also had a couple of sophs in Bryan Allen and Pe'Shon Howard that were outstanding as well....Oak Hill also has on their team the 21st and 26th ranked players in the country in Dan Jennings and Malik Story...The Warriors return to Marshall Co this Thursday as they play a nationally televised game on ESPN against St. Benedicts...Scott County,Ky is the defending KY state champions but they were narrowly defeated by Chicago Whitney Young and their notable player,Marcus Jordan, son of Michael Jordan...The buzz around the arena was that His Airness himself was supposed to attend the game...If he did,he stayed hid...I didn't see him...Lexington Catholic beat Chicago Simeon, who of course is not the same team without super freshman Derrick Rose who is now at Memphis....The final game of the night was Findley College Prep out of Nevada playing Wheeler out of Georgia....This game featured Kentucky recruit DeAndre Liggons..His team won the game pretty handily...The thing about this game was the line-up the Findley team has...They only brought 7 to the game but their roster included 3 6'10" players,1 7 footer and 2 6'9" s.... Nobody under 6'3"....The Wheeler team featured DeQuan Jones who has signed with Tha U...Miami,Fla.... This is a three day affair that also included DeMatha Catholic out of Maryland and their star players,Austin Freeman(Georgetown),Jerai Grant(Clemson),Jeff Peterson(Iowa),Isiah Tate(George Mason) and Marlin Cribbs(Mount St. Mary's)..They also have junior Naji Hibbert who is also heavily recruited.... Vienna,Ill featured 7 foot center Brett Thompson who is listed as the #29 player in the country and has committed to St. Louis.... In attendance yesterday was Tennessee head coach Bruce Pearl and Kentucky coach Billy Gillespie.... This is the 12th year for this event and it keeps getting bigger and bigger....Steve Woodward has developed a close relationship with Oak Hill coach Steve Smith so you can almost rest assured the Warriors will be in it year in and year out.....
  25. I don't eat crow my man.....I said they would have to be drastically better and they are...Night and day difference from last year....Save the crow till the end of the year...But,I will take that iced tea... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Think about this...Bradford beat them...So,how good is Bradford this year??....
