  1. No practice thursday. Practiced friday. Happy Valley will beat this team tuesday in my opinion. Now if the other team shows up, it could be a different story.
  2. So pleased to see Megan Johnson doing well. Such a great kid,.. she should still be wearing orange and black ya know! Updating your earlier request, it appears that 43's knee injury is more serious than first thought. Could be out quite awhile. MRI today. Should know more next week.
  3. LTM: when you add games it is done via a new window which, if you have a pop-up blocker engaged, will stop the new window from "popping up". You can temporarily disable your pop-up blocker which will allow the new window to open that will allow to add the game and then the score. I know cause Ive had to do this. I hope this helps.
  4. Marti was on the bench at today's game with her left knee/leg in an immobilizer. It appears she suffered a hyperextension injury, with no ligament damage and should be good to go in a week or two. As for doing the "color", I can give you color alright, but you better have some censors and a tape delayed broadcast! Seriously, CY and the other Kim did a very credible job on the tape Ive watched.
  5. Hmmm GLee, better make that 10 quarters now. Painful last two games to watch for cyclone fans. Hope the new year brings renewed E's (effort, energy, execution and enthusiam).
  6. Its obvious that those rangerettes have heart to go with their talent. Volunteer is an improved team this year, and to beat them on their home floor in their own tournament without three of your top seven is no small feat. This will help down the road when the bench is called on in key situations. But you already know that krich!! Good job Lady Rangers. At least one Carter County team showed up to play this week. Well thats not fair cause Cloudland won a game or two in Boone and Happy Valley did too in the JC tournament. I guess I should say that the Cyclones took the last ten quarters off for the holidays!
  7. Loss today was by 39-36 not 49-46 as listed on scoreboard. Another very lackluster game by the Lady Cyclones. 10 points at the half last night against South Greene. No better today against a very average Sevier County. Team did come back from about nine down to tie in the last minute and had the ball with 18 seconds to go. After a timeout, Sevier pressed and we almost threw the ball away in backcourt. Ball went back to Redd and she drove the right side and missed a running shot with enough time left for Sevier to get it into frontcourt for a buzzer beating 30 foot three point bank shot. It was a fitting end to this tournament for the cyclones. Somethings broke with this team and its hard to pinpoint what it is. No team chemistry. They are not having fun and it shows. Coachh17, watching those Hee Haw reruns don't sound too bad! Oh well, next week is a new year........
  8. Lady Cyclones play South Greene tommorrow at 230. Chance to rebound against a Region One contender. That Louisana team must be the stuff as they beat the Rebels handily. Good gut check game for both teams tommorrow. Lets go orange and black...........
  9. Yes, Walker Valley crushed West Greene, setting up an interesting matchup tommorrow against Mt Juliet; looks like Greeneville will play Maryville Heritage; Jeff Co vs winner of Cabrini La/South Greene; and Wilson Central vs Powell in winners bracket. I suspect the AAA state champion is in this field.
  10. Greeneville 70 Ft Payne Alabama 57 Walker Valley 73 West Greene 30 late in the third quarter: Maryville Heritage 45 Chucky Doak 34
  11. Close game at the half (four points) was turned into a route fueled by Jeff County's outstanding transition game. Huff is some player, but she is surrounded by a solid supporting cast. They shoot, pass, run and rebound very well. Makes for a good basketball team. Cyclones lost their legs early and just did not get back on defense. Actually, Jeff County beat them up and down the court pretty much all game. Cyclones had not played a game in 13 days, and it showed. Good luck Jeff County the rest of the way.
  12. South is improved over last year. They have a good point guard in Kilgore, who is a junior that can score. They have two outstanding freshmen in Pickwell and Williams who can play inside and out. They dont have much height. Unaka should beat them, but its no gimme.
  13. GLee: In the Boone game, the Lady Cyclone JV had a six point lead in the third quarter, then Boone banked in a 25 footer, and they went on a 21-3 run fueled by turnovers and poor shot selection. We closed to within four midway through the fourth and had at least two possessions to get closer but again poor shot selection and turnovers stopped our run. Fatigue was a huge factor, playing two full games in one afternoon. Some of our kids just lost their legs. Give Boone alot of credit, they played hard and appeared to be in overall better shape and simply wanted the game more. CoachH: Those kids are gamers and I believe they understand that playing time is earned, based on performance in practice and games. As a team they need to realize that individual stats/playing time mean nothing if you don't win. The team must come first. There may be too much individualization going on. I trust your ability to address the issues presented.
  14. CoachH, one of your strengths is "calling them like you see them", so trust in that. Perhaps you need to communicate your dilemma directly to the kids, even though I'm sure they know whats up. Sometimes it helps to lay it on the line. And you need to figure out how the make this fun for you again. Krichuanka: Whitney Forbes is not playing basketball. And do not stop your "lobbying" efforts or posting style. Its too entertaining! Are you going to do some play by play with CY? Now that would sell! Merry Christmas to All.
  15. Coach H has a tough assignment this year. He has 10 plus JV players who can play, and they are all 9th and 10th graders. The freshmen are pushing the sophomores, which in the long run will help the program. Growing pains, as well as learning pains, are part of the process. These kids need to continue to learn how to play as a team, how to play hard every minute they are on the court, make good decisions, and have fun! As good as this years' varsity is, this group could be just as special a couple years down the road...........
  16. JV won today over Tenn High (again) by seventeen points, after trailing by one at the half. They play winner of Daniel Boone-Jeff County tonight at 715 in the championship game (Dobyns Bennett tournament). Varsity plays monday in the Greene Co Ladies classic against a tough Jefferson County. Glad to hear that your daughter is doing well. I know she is being remembered in alot of prayers here. I will pass your thoughts and request along to the team and Moe tonight. You are missed Coach B.
  17. Cyclones beat TN High 59-55, and will likely have to face them again tommorrow at 2. I dont see Dobyns Bennett or Gate City beating the Vikings. Cyclones have got to stop the point guard penetration better tommorrow. And not have 20 plus turnovers. Cyclones were on the verge of taking full control of this game several times, but turnovers and shot selection got in the way.
  18. Krich, thanks for the encouraging words. The Greene County Ladies classic is the girls equivalent of the Arbys in these parts. Its an honor to be invited and I expect our lady cyclones to make a good showing. Im a little worried about the 13 days between games; Jeff County is not a team to be rusty against!! Good luck to the lady rangers in the volunteer tournament. Sullivan South is improved and has some scorers.
  19. Lady Cyclones played three consecutive games in the Tennessee High tournament two weeks ago, beating a very good JJ Kelly in the opener and an improved Sullivan South team, before losing by 6 to Archbishop Carroll. I think the coaches have the team in better overall shape this year; but fatigue could be a factor because you could be playing four in a row which really favors the deeper AAA schools. Last real chance to simulate the week of your district and regional tournaments(with back to back games). Cyclones vs Jefferson County in the tournament opener should be a good game; or at least I hope so!!
  20. Good win against Tenn High JV. High scoring game. Lots of pressing and turnovers? EHS JV better not take THS lightly tommorrow. In summer league they gave EHS all they wanted and then some. I'd be surprised if Daniel Boone doesnt emerge from the other pool.
  21. Should be a good JV match-up with Elizabethton on Monday. Kind of a prelude to the opening game of the Greene County tournament where the two varsity teams will square off.
  22. Cyclone JV play in a tournament next week at Kingsport DB, commencing with Jefferson Co. on Monday, then Tenn High on Tuesday, both at 2 pm. Other pool play has the two DBs (Daniel Boone and Dobyns Bennett) and Gate City. Single elimination play starts tuesday night and concludes wednesday. Should be a good opportunity to see some of that cyclone youth on display (although the two sophomore varsity starters obviously dont play JV).
  23. You guys all make very valid points. There will be games when the bench will have to perform in order to win, and naturally more early season time will help make those kids more comfortable when they are thrust into a bigger role. Also, when you have (hopefully) seven games (district, regional and substate) in a two week period, with several back to back games, how do you not play your bench? The other side of the coin is that the cyclones are 9-1, and its hard to find fault with that!! The two players mentioned have played some important minutes already, in end game situations, and I expect that when they are called on, they will fill their roles. Most of all, this team wants to win. There is no "I" in team.
  24. Well, Val did foul out midway through the fourth quarter but the Cyclones held on to win 47-39. It was a close game until toward the end of the third quarter when a cyclone burst, led by the defense, capped by a Redd three, gave EHS a nine point lead heading into the final quarter, 39-30. Elizabethton seemed to be pulling away with an eleven point lead, and a chance to add more, but Central came right back scoring six straight to make it a five point game. Cyclone turnovers helped. They eventually got it to four but EHS held on for the victory. The Cyclones still are not hitting on all cylinders and are not shooting the ball very well. The starters are playing alot of minutes and fatigue may be a factor. Still, to beat a good team like Central on their home floor, is big. Cyclones next conference game isnt until January 4 at home against Happy Valley.
  25. Central will be tough to beat at home. They start a veteran group and while they don't have great size, they do play physical, and don't take bad shots. Moody appears to have fully recovered from last years knee injury. They get the ball up and down the court, play good defense, and rebound well. Elizabethton will have to play well to win.
