My opinion is TSSAA abuses their authority. Just like in Nascar or any sport that is dominated year in and year out by the same team, TSSAA got tired of that and has thrown in a confusing and crazy set of rules to make teams with less ability to play powerhouses and have set them up to be sitting ducks in the playoffs. There is no rhyme or reason to teams that have down years. Every team goes through it at some point but I thought the playoffs were to be to match up who has the upper standings and let them duke it out. Apparently TSSAA has lost that logic. -

Congrats to both Goodpasture and Greenbrier for such great seasons and having already qualified for post-season. It's tough that there will have to be a loser come Friday night, but I'm sure that whichever team comes out on top will represent the district well. It's tough to see another season come to a close and another group of Seniors on both sides move on to bigger and better things. How far into post-season either team goes is anybody's guess given the "any given Friday night" theory. But regardless, I know that the young underclassmen have had great leadership in the Seniors that will play each other tomorrow night. The moms and dads will lock these last games into their minds, just as the players will. This was on the Macon-Westmoreland thread and I thought I'd share it for those parents. "Dear FOOTBALL MOM/DAD, You dreaded this year’s arrival, but it has come just the same. A year that is full of promise, but so many “last timesâ€. Over the year’s you have helped with countless team meals, washed mounds of sweaty uniforms, chauffeured to more early practices than you care to remember. You have been top of the world, elated when your son has had a good night and endured his deathlike silences when he hasn’t. It is amazing how the family mood bobs with the rhythm of each game. You have laughed, cried, screamed, sulked, pouted, sweated, pulled your hair, bit your nails, bit your tongue, paced, worried, frowned, and smiled all very gracefully and within a two hour span. Such is the life of a football mom/dad. You may not be in on the big play, but you feel the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat right along with your son. You keep your composure when some fan behind you wants your son’s head while the opponent on the field is mashing it into the grass. “Get off him, that’s my baby†you’d like to shout. You breathe football at this time of year, especially this time of year when your heart whispers “just a little longer†as the season slides by. You plead and bargain, knowing full well that some other mom/dad on the opponent’s team is making her/his own deal with the Almighty. But you do it anyway, because you no more want it to end than your son does. You do not want to see the desperation in his eyes and the pain on his face as he struggles to put away childhood dreams. You are helpless in the stands, with no way to make it better. IS IT WORTH IT? YOU BET IT IS! Every lost game sock, every busy Friday night, every recovering Saturday, every aspirin, every ruined hair do, hot bath, goose bumps, and every obnoxious fan and sports writer you’ve had to tolerate is worth it. The fun isn’t measured by how many times your son gets into the newspaper, the game, or what he does when he gets there. The fun-what makes those trips to the ER for the pigskin stitches all worthwhile, is watching a game. What a sport experience can do to convert your little boy into a young man. Watching him tackle the world and you have a front seat. You still see that rambunctious 5 year old playing ball in the yard. You bite your lip and hold back the tears because though you are fiercely proud of the young man he has become, you miss the boy. In fact you mourn for all the little boys. You have watched them grow up together, plot and scheme together, win and lose together. They have raided your kitchen, camped out in your basement, stole your heart. They are blessed with something they will never have again. They know it and you know it. So you pray that wonder will last another game, and then another, because as long as it does, you hang on to a piece of your boy for a bit longer. Watching him walk off that field one last time will be no less painful than giving birth to him all those years ago. We will miss this group of young men. We will miss watching them run on to the field like soldiers going to battle, the hi-fives after a great play, the chest slams after a great tackle, the celebrations over a big win and the sober faces after a disappointing loss. We will miss watching the boys we love, play the game they love. FOOTBALL." -

I agree that TSSAA has lost their minds. It's a shame they couldn't leave "well enough" alone. -

Well since you posted and your "buddy" posted right after you with his 2nd post and his first post was about a WH and Sycamore game AND that he spoke up for you (see above) about school colors, I suspect he/you are one in the same and from one of those... which according to you on Post #19, must not qualify as "big boys" since we won against both. -

As for the game, nobody is surprising us by the predictions, and nobody is telling us something we don't know (who we beat and who we didn't beat). We KNOW we're the underdog. I've already said Goodpasture is THE powerhouse of this region. I think everyone acknowledges that, but I will never tell you that I don't believe in our Cats, just as any fan believes in their teams. Come Saturday morning, I'm pretty sure the Cougars and Cats will be in the playoffs, but also pretty sure we still gotta play this game. Here's to sportsmanship with no injuries. -

Well, with us being #2 at this point, I think this board will turn into a free-for-all for all the Bobcat haters (mostly blue and white teams) to jump on here to bash Greenbrier. We've had a good year overall and no one can take that away. People can talk who beat who and by how much, but realistically I guess that's to have something to say. None of that matters in the game of the night, and I don't think anyone in Greenbrier is ignoring probability since Goodpasture has been so sucessful and a powerhouse, however, I don't think anyone is throwing out the possibilities either. We will go into this game with one of our best players, #4 Treavor Thaxton, out for the rest of the games due to having his hand stomped on and crushed in the Westmoreland game (it's on film), but we will also go in with many players that will be willing and able to step in and step up. Goodpasture is a goliath in high school football. This will be a battle and we will fight it. At the end of the night, here's hoping all are injury free to continue on to the playoffs and everything is left on the field. Go Cats! Focus and finish STRONG. -

nope, it came in the second qtr with about 4:50 left. A long pass to the corner of the endzone. And if they put freshmen in, they came in after I and half the stands left at the beginning of the 4th qtr. -

Kudos to the the new Jackets coach too. He pumped those guys up. I watched him go from one to the other during warmup with a pat or a word to get them up. And even the younger guys were catching reaching passes during warmups. That and Farmer having some years left, I think they are going to be good for a few years to come. -

Congrats again Springfield! I was impressed looking at it from a third-party view.. I was especially impressed with JJ's run He left all the BD's in the dust, and actually I think outran himself and lost balance. I think the Jackets will do well in the playoffs if they are on. Keep it up! -

When discussing our football season last night I was reminded by a transplant that not many one red-light towns can say they have no recruits, no big time transfers and a school of less than 1000 kids yet do have (2) volleyball, softball AND track state champions, much less a football team state appearance in the last TEN years like Greenbrier does so laugh all you want to. We may not be far from wrong. -

You didn't SPOT us anything. Springfield ran over us. WH doesn't have the speed that the Jackets do. I don"t think the Jackets will let the Cats be the only Robertson County team to beat WH this year. I may be wrong, but I don"t think so. -

I guess I should have singled out Treavor because I did see his continued effort. I hate that this has happened to him because he does bring spirit to the team. I really think the TSSAA should boot a kid that follows Haynesworth's style. Somewhere along the line, Karma comes knocking. Go Bobcats! -

5 Sport, there have only been a handfull of games that I've been to of Greenbrier's that I've had the gut-feeling that I had from the kickoff like I did the other night. I agree totally on there being NO spirit coming from those guys. They went thru the ritual coming onto the field but I could see it from the get-go. Once that punt was blocked and Westmoreland recovered, it was like the air was sucked out of the Bobcats. They came out flat and played without heart. I do think that Fall Break and pregame celebrations can get a team out of sync. That along with Westmoreland WANTED that game bad, and it was like the coaches didn't know how to contain Colley. I could call the QB keeper from the stands. These guys have lost 2 in a row now and the big one is coming. They have GOT to get their heads back into the game next week and the Bobcat coaches need to be studying the film and get Green ready. I'd like to see the last game be their best of the season. -

Personally I think they overlooked Westmoreland. The Bobcats came out flat and Westmoreland was on. Without a doubt, we need a kicker. Having seen WH and Springfield, I've got to agree with Ogor. Springfield's speed is a killer this year and on Jacket turf, it will be a hard fought game. The good thing is it is for bragging rights and not region play for either. If Springfield comes out wanting the WH game the way they wanted Greenbrier, it will be a good one to watch. Good luck to both. -
