  1. Man, oh, man, is Greenbrier looking good, or what? Way to go, Herndon. Keep making the Jeff Fisher show and feeding your "posse", and they will definitely keep opening holes for you to run through. thumb Let the Region games begin. Go beat Creekwood!
  2. Classy post, Bird. I think Greenbrier is looking forward to having the challenge of playing the immerging Creekwood team. We look forward to a great game of Friday night football. Thanks in advance for the hospitality.
  3. Tink, I'm not going to play your game of "tag", but I just have to correct you on one thing. Speaking for myself, I respect Creekwood, but I have NO respect for you since you consistently and intentionally do nothing but instigate and antagonize on this board. Do Creekwood a favor and don't try to be their representative. The good that "your" team has done is only tainted by your posts.
  4. I saw that truck with their flag waving. Quite a few kids in the one I saw. $50 each? That should add up to healthy donation. Well now I don't feel so bad about having to pay for parking at Beech last year. And their parents should be thankful it's only $50, and not the cost of a funeral if their child had fallen out.
  5. congrats to Creekwood. Look forward to seeing you next Friday. Let's make a deal. Let's talk football for the next six days---not trash.
  6. Congrats to Creekwood too. We're looking forward to our first region game!
  7. no sweat---we've already had whatever WH can dish out. It's time we figure out the ingredients for a little dish of our own.
  8. Dandy, I heard Ivan is coming right OVER White House. How's about we just move that marquee game to Bobcat Country?
  9. Man. how could I leave out Jacob? He is looking better each week. He finds the hole and hits it and makes something out of nothing in a pinch. Roger did indeed look like Mr. Football. It's very apparent his summer workouts have strenghthen him. He was "carrying" about 3 or 4 Bucs on his back and still moving forward. thumb
  10. Way to go, my Cats! You came out strong tonight and had so many playmakers in this game that it was fantastic to see what everyone could do. Special congrats to Roger, Clint and Kyle G! What runs! The stats were strewn around tonight! And Brad is looking good too. He turned it on for a sub. Only one complaint. Coach Williams, let Chris KICK the ball! He's got the leg! We just needed to wrap up those long runs that Beech got. Other than that, we dominated. To Beech, good luck the rest of the way.
  11. tough start for WH Heritage, but this is how I thought it would probably turn out. Good luck to both teams the rest of the way.
  12. One of the men in the meetings (on the news) was shown as saying something to the effect of "if it comes down to cutting these things, you'll need (protective?) vests, because people will hunt you down" I don't condone anything violent, but if you live in Cheatham County, your voice needs to be heard!
  13. This was on the CoachT homepage, but these guys work hard for 2000 yards---not many of us could do it. Congrats, guys. 2000 Club Chip Cirillo Staff Writer Greenbrier High School senior running back Roger Herndon rushed for over 2,000 yards last season and is aiming for another 2,000 season this season. Northwest’s offensive line approached Cedric Wilkerson with a big request during the preseason. “They told me they want another 2,000 yards,” said Wilkerson, the Vikings’ star running back. “Then they said 3,000. I said, ‘Let’s just win. If the yards come, they come.’ ” High expectations are part of the territory when you break the 2,000-yard mark as a junior. Wilkerson set the bar high when he rushed for 2,228 yards and 31 touchdowns last fall. Greenbrier’s Roger Herndon and Coffee County’s Jake Nunley also broke the 2,000 milestone, so they know exactly what Wilkerson is going through. “People kind of look at things differently and say, ‘That wasn’t as good a game if you get 100-and-something yards,’ ” Herndon said. “It’s kind of hard to live up to, but if you’re winning and other players are picking up stats then to me that’s success.” All three backs will be marked men this season as opposing defenses gear up to contain them. Wilkerson learned quickly that the return road to 2,000, or 3,000 as requested by his line, will be difficult when he was held to 84 yards on 29 carries during a 34-28 victory over Kenwood in the season opener. “They put nine or 10 players in the box on me,” Northwest Coach Daniel Stevens said. “Cedric didn’t do too well. They just stacked it up on me and it was hard to (run.) He’s marked. Everybody is looking for him.” Kenwood had all summer to prepare for Northwest — and it showed. Nothing seemed to surprise the Knights’ defense. The Vikings graduated four starters on the offensive line. “It’s a rivalry game and they had been studying us for two months,” Wilkerson said. “They knew all our plays and they were calling them at the line.” Wilkerson increased his output to 120 yards in Northwest’s second game, but the Vikings suffered a 21-8 loss to Northeast on Friday. Things have gone much smoother for Nunley, who has averaged 192.5 rushing yards in Coffee County’s first two games. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound senior ran for a 69-yard touchdown on the Raiders’ second play from scrimmage in the season opener against Siegel. “He’s a throwback to the old-time runner,” Raiders Coach Bill Price said. “He’ll run over you and he doesn’t avoid contact. Jake is a north-south guy, but he does have a little wiggle.” Herndon is also off to a good start after averaging 156.5 yards in Greenbrier’s first two games. The 5-11, 180-pound senior led the Bobcats to the Class 3A semifinals last season after rushing for 2,143 yards and 28 TDs. He was Greenbrier’s workhorse tailback with 286 carries, but he never lost a fumble during the entire season. “To me, that’s the stat that says it all,” Bobcats Coach Kirk Williams said. “Anytime you rush for over 2,000 yards that’s a great stat, but you throw in that he never lost a fumble in all those carries — that says something. He’s very conscious of not making that turnover.” Herndon knows turnovers can turn games around so he makes protecting the football a priority. “I usually keep the ball high and tight and close to my body,” Herndon said. “I don’t carry it out wide and I make sure I have my hand over the point. A helmet on the ball or someone that you don’t expect is usually the one that causes the fumble.” Nunley also did a great job protecting the ball with only two fumbles on 363 carries, the most touches of any back in the 2,000 Club. Like Herndon and Wilkerson, the fullback faces a lot of defenses designed to stop him. “They seem to put more people in the box now, but we’re a little more diverse than we were last year,” Nunley said. “We’ve got more weapons. It’s tough, but the line deals with it well.” The four-year starter has rushed for more than 3,600 career yards, attracting interest from college recruiters at Tennessee and Marshall. Smith County tailback Michael Wilmore almost hit the 2,000 milestone when he rushed for 1,974 yards and 31 TDs last fall. The senior is off to a great start after averaging 168.5 yards in the Owls’ first two games. Wilkerson is only 5-6, but the 180-pound senior uses his lack of height as a motivator. He has all the other tools with 4.4 speed in the 40-yard dash, a 475-pound squat and a 330 bench press. “My height is a big issue with some people because they think because I’m short I can’t (rush for 2,000 yards) again,” Wilkerson said. “You can put anybody out there and I’ll go head up with them or shake them. I have to prove myself every day. “It will be going through my head: ‘They say you’re too short, you can’t do this. You’re too small, you’re not supposed to do this. When you play a good defense you won’t do anything.’ So that motivates me to work out harder than I ever did.” When asked if he was a north-south runner, Wilkerson replied, “I’m north, south, east and west. I can see everything on the field even if it’s coming from behind me.” Vanderbilt and Tennessee have both shown interest in Wilkerson. The Commodores have sent weekly mail to Herndon, who is also being recruited by Tennessee Tech. Both players were Mr. Football finalists last year. Reaching the 2,000 mark won’t guarantee Herndon, Wilkerson or Nunley a scholarship, but it definitely puts them on the radar. “It’s tough to reach 2,000 at any level, especially the high school level where you may not feature a single back in an offense,” Williams said. “We run the Wing T and generally speaking we spread the ball around. “But Roger has gotten a lot more carries than normal over the last couple of years just because of his ability. Getting 2,000 yards is a great task and I think there is a lot to be said for any kid that does that.”
  14. The budget problems in Cheatham were on the news (Channel 5) yesterday. The said it's buses (no staggering) or athletics that may be cut.
  15. Boy, a week off this early in the season has been hard on me! I'm ready for a football game! Can't wait til tomorrow night! Calling all Greenbrier fans----come out and show some GREEN! thumb
  16. Not to mention the Bobcat fans who went and sat on the Lipscomb side, were standing around the fences and in the at the ends of the field. And that's not just players families, I saw several Greenbrier fans who don't even have a player on the team. Anybody playing Greenbrier can expect to have the stands to be filled, so get there early!
  17. Hard to tell who will win, but an interesting comparsion is that SC beat Creekwood the week before last, and Creekwood beat Sycamore last week, a team that faces the Blue Devils tomorrow night. And Sycamore has beaten WHHS two years in a row. I'd love to see the game between Heritage and SC, but have other plans. Good luck to both teams!
  18. Let me be the first to assure you that I think every coach and player at Greenbrier is keeping up with where the other region teams stand, and I think we all know that the season is too early for any team, including Greenbrier, to lay claim to anything yet. That won't happen until somebody comes out on top in the Region playoffs, and then there is still a big factor of teams like Fulton that could stop any of us cold. As far as Greenbrier being THE team to beat, that's all how you look at it. Greenbrier will be looking at whoever we play each Friday night as THE team to beat. Someone may take it as Greenbrier being arrogant when they read a trade of smack on this board between FatCat and CBarkleyand that got a somewhat heated. I think FatCat already said not to judge Greenbrier by that. Just as we will try to not judge Creekwood by Tink. It appears he has worked on alot of nerves on several boards. Again, Greenbrier looks forward to a hard fought season. All any team needs to focus on is whoever we each play on Friday night. Next week will come knocking soon enough. Good luck to all the Region 5 teams. It's only week 3, let's see how things pan out and talk football, not smack.
  19. Yankeesare#1 (and any other Bobcat fan), Let Tink69 talk. Anyone that tries to debate his ramblngs is playing right into his hands. He is gonna try to stir the pot with every team that plays Creekwood. All he is doing is giving the other team locker room material. If Creekwood is the best team, let them prove it week after week, just like anyone else (including US) is going to have to. Again, talking smack on this board is not making any difference on the field and rewarding that kind of talk on a high school football board is only feeding his ego. Tink, Let it go---football is a GAME.
  20. AMEN, Fatcat. This board is not going to change on single thing on what is done on the field.
  21. Yeah. We'll see. Get by Sycamore---then we'll talk.
  22. man, what trashtalk and hatin' for only week 2. Sure hope this game is a headknocker so ya'll will chill out. It's still a LONG season to go. thumb
  23. Kudos, Coach Williams! You deserve it! Keep up the good work!
  24. Try not to get so worked up, CB. It's still early. The season has still got a long way to go.
  25. Everybody knew going into this season that Greenbrier is the one to unseat from the 3A title. There's a great BIG imaginary target on every green jersey out there, and every Greenbrier fan on this board. Of course Sycamore is going to rag us on this board. They are always going to hear about those redzone defensive defeats last year, (just like the Titans Superbowl game) and it happened not once but twice in just a few few weeks. We're going to hear about "the streak" until it is off our back. That's just how it goes in this game of football. Let's just all step back and take a deep breath. We all get caught up in the moment or spurred by a comment on this board that we don't like. But to proclaim victory or defeat by any team without a crystal ball usually makes the "crow" alot lumpier as it goes down. We fans need to sit here and cheer on our team----the guys on the team will determine the winner. Nothing on this board will make an iota of difference.
